Why The Entire Family Will Love Starlink_ Battle For Atlas

Everyone in my family is a gamer. We often spend our weekends together playing games – and we recently found a new favorite. Starlink: Battle for Atlas is a game that all of us have been enjoying! From my 5 (almost 6) year old daughter, to my husband. There is something for everyone when it comes to Ubisoft’s Starlink, including amazing upgrades and visually stunning graphics!

Build Your Own Ship

Probably hands down the coolest thing about this game is that you create your own starship. And then you can attach that starship to your controller. Yea, I told you this game was awesome. My daughters thought it was absolutely amazing that they could use physical items to construct the ship that they would be using in the game. There are several different options that come in the starter pack that you can play with, and changing them out is super easy! Players can change their ship according to their mood or mission!

Lots of Upgrades

Speaking of changing your ship around, there are several different upgrade expansions you can purchase. The Weapon Packs come with two new weapons to choose from that have different abilities. For example, the crusher weapon pack will create gravity wells crushing your target, and pulling in nearby projectiles for extra damage. And the Iron Fist pack launches short-range shrapnel bursts to devastate your enemy. Weapon packs are $9.99 each and come with two weapons.

I love the fact that you can purchase a Pilot Pack as well. This allows you to add a new character in to your game for just $7.99. Each pilot has pros and cons as well – one is a scientist with high intellect and another is an extreme athlete. For $24.99, you can purchase an entire new ship pack, which comes with a pilot, a starship, and a weapon. Like the other upgrade packs, there are pros and cons to different packs.

Explore A Visually Stunning Space

As a gaming completionist, Starlink: Battle for Atlas is a dream! Not only are each of the planets (and the space surrounding them) ridiculously visually stunning, there is a lot to do! You can collect species of plants, and complete side missions, or stick to the main story line. My favorite aspect of the game is how seamless you can move from planet to planet – with no load time. Yup, no load time at all. There is a lot of cool space exploration involved, and this game is great for the whole family because there is two player split-screen couch co-op option! My daughters have so much fun playing together – and yes, mommy and daddy take the reigns when they go to bed!

Not that you need another reason to buy this game, but the Nintendo Switch version comes with StarFox. So yea, that is awesome.

BIG SAVINGS: 12/16-12/22: Save $25 on Starter Packs. Plus, save 30% on Starlink toys.

About Starlink: Battle for Atlas

Starlink: Battle for Atlas is an open-world space saga that features modular toy technology that allows players to assemble and customize real-world physical starships. They can link the starships to their game controller and launch into an epic adventure across the Atlas star system – either in single player or with a friend in two-player split-screen local co-op. Each modular component and pilot attached to the starship appears instantly in-game, allowing players to directly affect the course of their battle in a meaningful way.

Watch Venom in Venom Mode & More with the Home Release Bonus Features!

When I first heard about Venom coming to the big screen, I was thrilled. He has always been one of my favorite Marvel characters. Then as the trailers were releasing, I admit, I had mixed feelings. The final trailer put my concerns to rest and I headed to the theaters to see this movie. Boy, am I glad I did, because I loved it! I think that Venom is a must see for any Marvel comic book fan! I was thrilled when a copy showed up at my doorstep – and you know I had to immediately check out the bonus features!

Bonus Features

My favorite thing about picking up a movie on home release is all the bonus features. I feel like the deleted scenes always bring the movie to another place for me – and often tie things together more. But for Venom, what I was most excited about was Venom mode! I love Easter Eggs and having Venom point them out for me – even better. I have read many Venom comics but there were a couple of references I missed. This is a MUST WATCH mode for Venom fans!

venom has amazing cgi

  • Venom Mode: When selecting this mode the film will engage informative pop-ups throughout the film to provide insight on the movie’s relationship to the comics, and to reveal hidden references that even a seasoned Venom-fan may have missed!
  • Deleted & Extended Scenes
    • Ride to Hospital – Eddie and Venom take a ride to the hospital.
    • Car Alarm – Let’s just say that Venom is not fond of car alarms.
    • San Quentin – Extended post-credits scene at San Quentin.
  • From Symbiote to Screen: A mini documentary about the history of Venom in comics and his journey to the big screen.
  • The Lethal Protector in Action: Go behind the scenes with the production crew and learn the secrets behind the awesome Motorcycle stunts, wire stunts, and drones.
  • Venom Vision: A look at how Ruben Fleischer came to the project, gathered his team, and made Venom a reality. Utilizes interviews from cast, crew, and producers as well as Fleischer himself.
  • Designing Venom: Designing and creating Venom meant a huge challenge for VFX artists; follow the amazing journey.
  • Symbiote Secrets: Blink and you may have missed it! Enjoy the hidden references throughout the film.
  • 8 Select Scenes Pre-Vis sequences: See the progression of the visual effects, storyboards and fight chorography compared to the finished film.
  • “Venom” by Eminem – Music Video
  • “Sunflower” by Post Malone, Swae Lee (From Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)
  • Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Sneak Peek: Meanwhile in another universe…

Venom Holds Up

Watching Venom for a second time, everything really held up for me. I know there have been some mixed reviews out there, but for me, I think I enjoyed it even more. All of the comic book nods really brought this film home for me. It is so much fun and I cannot wait to see more. Carnage is going to be amazing!

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is Easily the Best Animated Film of All Time

spider-man into the spider-verse

I just got back from seeing Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse and I admit, I was blown away. I went in to this movie completely expecting it to be amazing. My expectations were extremely high – and my mind was still blown. That says a lot. My eyeballs were glued to the screen throughout the entire film. I laughed. A lot. I cried. A lot. It was pure perfection. If you are a Spider-Man fan or not, this movie should be at the top of your must see list!

The Animation Style

The animation style alone rises this film above many others. Each and every Spider Person had their own animation style. As you could see in the trailers, the scenes on the screen literally look like they were ripped from the comic book pages. The dots and the speech and thought bubbles – as a total comic book fan, this had me smiling from ear to ear.

spider-man in to the spiderverse

So Many Comic Book Nods

I know a lot about a few of the Spider People that were featured in this movie, but not all of them. I never got in to Spider Gwen or Penni Parker. But all that being said – I am eager to pick up their comic books and learn more. Into the Spider-Verse has me itching to know more about their backgrounds. In the movie we get brief a synopsis of each of their origin stories – in comic book form. Amazing. We see references not only to the comics, but to past movies and tv shows. We see the Spider dune buggy and Peter mentions that we don’t talk about what happened in Spider-Man 3.

spider-verse is easily the best animated film of all time

The Story

The story had me laughing, crying, and cheering on my favorite Spider People. The villains were great – Kingpin, Tombstone, Prowler, and Doctor Octavius. My 7 year old stood up and cheered when the movie ended. My 5 year old was in to the movie the entire time – which says a lot because it is a two hour movie. I don’t want to give anything away, but I will say the story will suck you in and the time will fly by. This is a must see for families. The moral of the story? Anyone can be Spider-Man.

Oh yea, I probably don’t have to tell you this, but stay through the credits. Trust me.

Me with Stan Lee
Me with Stan Lee at NYCC.

Stan Lee’s Cameo

This is a minor spoiler but I feel like I have to talk about it. After a very sad moment toward the beginning of the film we get Stan Lee’s cameo. The words out of his mouth? “I miss him. You know, we were friends.” there is a bit more but hearing Stan the Man say “I miss him.” yea, it got me. Because I miss that man so darn much. Then at the end of the film we get a tribute not only to Stan, but to Steve Ditko as well. We lost so many great people this year and it sucks that they had to be two of them. Thanks for giving us Spider-Man guys, and teaching us that everyone has the power to be good.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is in theaters now!

Bitten by a radioactive spider in the subway, Brooklyn teenager Miles Morales suddenly develops mysterious powers that transform him into the one and only Spider-Man. When he meets Peter Parker, he soon realizes that there are many others who share his special, high-flying talents. Miles must now use his newfound skills to battle the evil Kingpin, a hulking madman who can open portals to other universes and pull different versions of Spider-Man into our world.

Disney on Ice presents Worlds Of Enchantment is a MUST SEE!

Every year my family goes to see Disney on Ice. It is a tradition that was started when I was a little girl with my family, and now I continue it with my children. We are a big Disney family so this is something we look forward to every year. This years show in Syracuse is Disney On Ice presents Worlds of Enchantment and includes performances from your favorite Toy Story, The Little Mermaid, Cars, and Frozen characters. And of course, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy show up too!

Disney on Ice Snow Cone
Enjoy a delicious snow cone in a light up cup that you can take home!
Disney on Ice Crown
The cotton candy comes with this adorable Mickey Mouse Crown!

The first half of the show was mostly Toy Story 3, with a little bit of The Little Mermaid. The second half was mostly Frozen, but started with a few of the Cars characters. I love how Disney on Ice splits this up – and it is often the way these shows run. You get two full stories, and two small snippets of other movies.

Disney on Ice Toy Story 3

Toy Story 3

The show opens with Toy Story 3, and I have to admit, I knew right then I was going to cry. If we saw Andy give his toys away it was going to be all over for me. That is one of my favorite Disney moments and it tugs right at the heart strings. Well, we see the toys battle Lotso and eventually, we see Andy letting them go. My youngest looked at me with tear filled eyes and hugged me and yea, that was it. Tear central for this sensitive mama.

Disney on Ice Toy Story 3 Army Men

My oldest said that this was her favorite performance of the night because she really liked all the army men. She thought the stunts were cool, and she enjoyed singing along to all the songs. She also really loves Barbie and Ken.

Disney on Ice The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid

We have seen The Little Mermaid featured in a few Disney on Ice shows before, but it never gets old. My husband and I absolutely love “Kiss the Girl” and were excited to see that song featured. I was also really happy to see one of my all time favorite Disney Villains – Ursula. Ariel and Eric also performed some of my favorite stunts – it seems like he was always lifting her up and twirling her around and it was amazing!

Disney on Ice Cars

Cars

When Mickey and Minnie’s car breaks down outside Radiator Springs, we get to see some of our favorite cars come out on the ice! This part was really fun and had a lot of special effects like fire! We had never seen Cars be part of a Disney on Ice show before, so we were all really excited! It only lasted a few minutes, and there were no songs, but it was still really cool!

Disney on Ice Olaf

Frozen

My youngest daughter was so excited to see that Frozen was a part of this show. She is (still) obsessed. We listen to “Let It Go” every single day in our house – and are all very eager for Frozen 2. Since we go to Disney on Ice a lot, we have seen this Frozen performance many times – but it is still one of our favorites! The songs are great and fun to sing a long to – and who doesn’t love when Anna punches Hans right in the face?! Of course, this sensitive mom cries when Anna saves Elsa. I could blame it on the fact that I have two daughters and the sisters make me think of them but let’s face it, I am just emotional.

The show is running in Syracuse at The Oncenter War Memorial Arena from December 13th to the 16th, and there are several more shows you can attend! I promise you, you do not want to miss out! Grab your tickets at The Solvay Bank Box Office or through Ticketmaster.

How To Make Holiday Traditions Even More Fun With Alexa

This post was sponsored by Amazon as part of an Ambassador Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

How To Make Holiday Traditions Even More Fun With Alexa

My husband and I are big technology nerds. Our whole house is smart connected, and we love it! It makes our lives so much easier, especially with two young kids. They are being raised to understand the technology and how to use our smart devices. A favorite of ours is the Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition because we know we can trust it to stay appropriate. Our love for it is growing over this holiday season as it is helping us create new holiday traditions, as well as bring back some old ones.

Holiday traditions with Alexa
The Echo Dot can easily move with your kids and sit wherever a plug is close!

Holiday Stories

One of our favorite traditions, which was a tradition from when I was a little girl, is reading Christmas stories. Each night of December, my sister and I would take turns picking one to read. This is something I have continued with my daughters, and now Alexa has stepped it up a notch. She can actually read to us, all we have to do is say “Alexa, read a Christmas Carol.” or “Alexa, tell me a winter story.” Because of this feature all four of us are able to cuddle together and listen to a holiday tale. We have even discovered some new ones that none of us had heard before.

Playing music at night is the perfect way to lull your child to sleep.

Holiday Music

The moment that Thanksgiving is over, I like to have Christmas music playing throughout the house. With our Echo and Echo Dot Kids Edition, I can simply ask Alexa to play holiday music and she will. One of my favorite things to do is ask her to sing me a Christmas song. She will actually sing to us – and my daughters LOVE singing along with her. OK, the whole family does! Singing and listening to Christmas carols has always been a tradition of ours, just like reading holiday stories has been. This is another way (of many) that Alexa can help us during the holiday season.

Holiday traditions with Alexa

Other Holiday Uses

There are plenty of other things that Alexa can help with, especially during the holidays. For example, I am forever having her make grocery lists for me, and now I have started making lists for holiday gift ideas. If I am cleaning, or working, and an idea comes to me, I can just ask Alexa to add it to my shopping list. Then I can pull that up in my app while at the store. This really makes gift giving much less stressful!

Holiday traditions with Alexa 4

Last year for Christmas we gifted my mother an Echo Dot, and my daughters love calling her on it. Yup, you can make voice calls (and video calls if you both have the Echo Show or Spot). Simply ask Alexa to drop in on your loved ones and you can have a full conversation with them! I love that I can talk with my mom while I walk around the house or do chores thanks to Alexa! Not to mention the fact that I can ask her to turn on our holiday lights for us – that means no stepping outside in the cold weather to do it.

Holiday traditions with Alexa

Why The Kids Edition?

The Kids Edition of the Echo Dot is just a little bit more money than the Echo Dot, but you get so much with is! The kid-friendly case and two year worry-free guarantee are great, but what we love the most is a whole year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited on Alexa. With this service Amazon ensures that the music stays age appropriate. And my favorite part is the amazing parental controls. With the Parent Dashboard, you can access everything that your children and doing with Alexa – and so much more!

My daughters love the character alarms we set up for them, and I love the fact that they cannot access voice purchasing. Trust me, our house would be filled with Hatchimals and Slime if they could! I also really like that I can set daily time limits because even though many of what they do with Alexa is educational, I don’t want them doing it at all hours of the night. There are also plenty of games the girls can play on their Echo Dot Kids Edition which helps them to learn! The educational Q & A is one of their favorites!

Alexa has made being a busy on-the-go parent very easy for me because my girls will spend hours listening to stories, songs, and even playing games! An Echo Dot Kids Edition would be the perfect holiday gift for any family with little ones!

Is The House With A Clock In Its Walls Too Intense For Young Kids?

Is The House WIth A Clock in Its Walls Too Intense For Kids_

After seeing the fist trailer for The House With A Clock in Its Walls my daughters REALLY wanted to see it. My youngest is 5 years old so I just wasn’t sure if it was going to be too much for her. Even some parts of the trailer spooked her a little. The after the second trailer came out I decided for sure we would wait until the home release. My 7 year old was a little upset about this, but agreed. So imagine how excited we were when an advance copy of the blu-ray showed up at our door!

The House With A Clock In Its Wall

Too Intense For Little Ones?

We watched it that night, and it made me glad we waited to see it at home. My 5 year old (who turns 6 very soon) was out pretty quickly. She enjoyed some parts but then became a little nervous. I should say that even Hocus Pocus, which she says is one of her favorite movies, has parts that make her uneasy. On the other hand, myself, my husband, and my 7 year old loved it. After about 45 minutes, my youngest went to her room to play and we finished the film.

About The House With A Clock in Its Walls

In the tradition of Amblin classics where fantastical events occur in the most unexpected places, Jack Black and two-time Academy Award® winner Cate Blanchett star in The House with a Clock in Its Walls, from Amblin Entertainment. The magical adventure tells the spine-tingling tale of 10-year-old Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) who goes to live with his uncle in a creaky old house with a mysterious tick-tocking heart. But his new town’s sleepy façade jolts to life with a secret world of warlocks and witches when Lewis accidentally awakens the dead.

Countdown To Avengers: Endgame

Countdown To Avengers End Game

You might recall that last year, Amy from As The Bunny Hops and I did a Countdown to Infinity War. We watched all the movies again and live tweeted them. It was so much fun. Then Avengers: Infinity War devastated us. Now we have Avengers: Endgame coming up and we updated the schedule, just as we promised you. Here is how you can watch all the MCU movies, in order, before seeing Avengers: Endgame in theaters this upcoming April.

Have you read my breakdown of the Avengers: Endgame trailer 2? There was SO MUCH to unpack! And if you haven’t gone to see Captain Marvel yet, I highly recommend you do. In this Captain Marvel review, i discuss what they changed from the comic books (and why it worked!)

Twitter Fun

Will we be live tweeting again? Well, not the whole schedule. We did that last year and let’s face it, some of these might be a little hard to sit through again. (cough, Dark World, cough). We will, however, be picking up where we left off – with Black Panther the week of April 12th. More details with the exact day and time will be coming. The week after that is Avengers: Infinity War, so get ready to cry all the tears with us (but probably not Amy since she has no soul). For now, you can catch yourself up, starting next week. See you in April with #CountdownToEndgame on Twitter!

What are the best ways to watch the Marvel movies? Check out my girl Tania from Lolalambchops suggestions!

Kids Will Have a BLAST With ArmoGear Laser Battle!

0

ArmoGear Laser Battle

As a parent in this day and age, I know the struggle is real when it comes to technology. I know, I am not one to talk. I would play video games all day, every day if I could. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want my kids to get outside and explore the great outdoors every now and then. And I finally found the perfect way to get them to want to do it too – Laser Battle from ArmoGear. This laser tag game is so much fun that even my husband and I ended up joining in!

ArmoGear Laser Battle

Easy for Younger Kids Too!

Laser Battle is surprisingly really easy to use. The recommended age is 8 and up, but my daughters are 6 and 7, and they picked right up on how to play. I was afraid some aspects might be a little hard for them to understand, but they did better than myself and my husband (and no, we weren’t letting them win either). The voice guided gameplay and instructions really helped and my girls thought the four different weapon modes with sound effects were the COOLEST!

ArmoGear Laser Battle

Comes With Everything You Need

Laser Battle comes with everything you need to start playing right away. With four infrared laser guns and four infrared laser vests, the whole family can start playing as soon as you open the package and add the batteries. There is even built in night vision flashlight so that the fun doesn’t have to end when the sun goes down. In fact, when you play at night or in a dark place, it is easier to see the light indicators. Don’t worry about safety, because all aspects of laser battle passed a string of advanced tests before reaching mass production.

ArmoGear Laser Battle

Different Modes To Choose From

My husband’s favorite mode to play in is Stealth Fighting Mode. When you activate stealth mode, your lights turn off and you gain 15-second invisibility. This will help you pull off a secret ambush – which is something he has seriously mastered. In this mode, you need to watch your back for others trying to do the same thing!

There a different gun modes too, like the shot gun mode. With this mode you have 5 preloaded shots and 2 lives taken per shot, which makes the game a little harder. In the pistol mode, you get 12 preloaded shots and they take out 1 life per shot. This is the perfect mode for taking on a large group of opponents. Laser Battle has machine gun and rocket mode as well.

I promise your kids will love you when you pick up a Laser Battle kit for $149.99 for them – and if you need more for neighborhood kids or other family members, they also come in two packs for just $74.99. Laser Battle is a great gift for the holidays!
