4 Reasons To Book The Garden Grill for Breakfast At Epcot at Walt Disney World

The Garden Grill is always on our must do dining list when we visit Disney World. In my opinion, it is one of the best character meals that there is, for several different reasons. A Smith Family visit to Disney World would just not be the same without it. My in-laws will be hitting Disney World with us in a few months and we knew right away the one breakfast we had to make sure they did not miss is The Garden Grill. I am thrilled to say that we were able to book it – and cannot wait to show them why we love it so much!

The Food

One of my favorite things about The Garden Grill breakfast is that it is served family style. Your server will bring you a menu that Chip and Dale picked out themselves – and it is delicious! In fact, one of my favorite food items in all of the parks can be found there – Chip’s Sticky Bun Bake! It is dangerously good – I dare you not to eat the entire thing. Yum! Also served for breakfast are fresh fruits, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage links, and hash brown potatoes. Of course, no meal at Disney World would be complete without the Mickey Waffles!

Your Surroundings

My family absolutely loves the Living With The Land ride. It is a great ride to sit on and relax. No matter how many times we have been on it, seeing where all of the food is grown never gets old. We love picking out all of the hidden Mickeys throughout the ride as well (there are so many!!). As you enjoy your meal at The Garden Grill, your table will rotate in a circle, passing you over part of this ride. It is a lot of fun to look down and see the ride in operation. I admit, when we were first told our table would be rotating, we were nervous. But don’t worry, it moves at a slower than snails pace – and makes the experience that much better.

The Characters

Since this is a character meal, you will get to meet some of your favorite Disney characters! Of course Chip and Dale are there – but you also get to visit with Pluto and Farmer Mickey! The Garden Grill seems to be one of the most underrated character meals out there. It is such a small area, that sometimes you get to see the characters twice! My daughters were thrilled to spend nearly 5 full minutes hanging out with Chip and Dale last time we went.

Soarin’ With Barely A Wait

If you are lucky enough to score a PPO (Prior to Park Open) reservation for The Garden Grill – snag it right up! We have done this twice, and will for a third time in a few months. This works out great because The Garden Grill is right next to Soarin’ – one of the most popular rides at Epcot (for a good reason!). As you might already know, when choosing fastpasses, Soarin’ is a Tier 1. That means you can only choose Soarin’, Frozen Ever After, or Test Track. Getting an early breakfast at The Garden Grill is a great way to use a fastpass+ on one of the other popular rides – and still get on Soarin’ without waiting for a super long time. After your breakfast, head right to Soarin’ and get in line. Twice now, we have literally walked on to Soarin’ after having an 8am breakfast scheduled – WOW!

I mean, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, Logan, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and now we have Thor: Ragnarok to look forward to. The Lion King Under the Stars Movie Night

This summer, my family and I hosted several Disney movies under the stars nights. These were a total blast to put together! I themed our snacks, decor, and activities around the films that we were watching. It would only take us a few minutes to set up our screen and projector – and this quickly became something we tried to do every week or so. We have always enjoyed a good family movie night, but there is quite like having one under the stars.

The Outdoor Movie Night Set Up

In case you missed it over the summer, here is what you need in order to create your movie night under the stars set-up:

Simply connect your phone to the speaker and projector using the adapter and the HDMI cable. Be sure the projector is lined up with your projector screen, sheet, or side of the house evenly. This way the movie will be straight and easier to watch, instead of an an angle. Then use Disney Movies Anywhere to pull up the movie you want to watch and hit play! Then all that is left to do is relax and enjoy the movie.

Have A Movie Night Anywhere

My extended family got together for a camping weekend and we brought our set up along with us. We ended up watching Moana, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Inside Out. The whole family was impressed – and had a total blast! In fact, several of them talked about picking up the elements of the set up so that they could have their own movie nights under the stars.

Favorites and More To Come

My favorite movie night we did all summer was probably Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. Not only because of the delicious snacks, but because I genuinely love that movie. At this moment, it is my favorite comic book movie of all time. I am a huge Guardians fan, if you didn’t know. I even have a Guardians of the Galaxy sleeve tattoo that features Star-Lord, Rocket, Baby Groot, Gamora, Drax, Yondu, and Ego. Nebula will be added soon to complete the sleeve. Because I am such a comic book nerd, I am DYING to watch Avengers: Infinity War on the big screen under the stars!

In case you some how have missed it, my daughters and I are HUGE My Little Pony fans! I grew up watching them and I am not ashamed to admit, I have been watching the latest series, Friendship is Magic, with my girls all the time. Even my husband is a fan of My Little Pony. So naturally from the moment we saw the trailer for My Little Pony: The Movie, we knew it was a must see for our family.

Synopsis

A dark force threatens Ponyville, and the Mane 6 – Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rarity – embark on an unforgettable journey beyond Equestria where they meet new friends and exciting challenges on a quest to use the magic of friendship to save their home. The movie also features original music and songs performed by Sia, Diggs, Saldana, Chenoweth and Blunt.

How amazing is that trailer? Full of fun, humor, and a great story line! This is a must see movie for any My Little Pony fan! I love that the pony Sia voices has hair covering her face. It is the little details like that that make me know this movie is going to go all out. It is going to be a big hit – at least in our house!

As most of you know, I have two young daughters. From the moment they first saw the Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie trailer, they wanted to see it. We ended up going to see it in theaters and I admit, I loved it! My husband and I walked out of there totally shocked that we actually were looking forward to seeing it again. You can’t beat the cast, and, despite many potty jokes, it is hilarious!

We were so happy to get a copy of the Blu-ray thanks to DreamWorks Animation in the mail. We opened it right up and watched it again – and enjoyed it just as much as we did the first time (if not more). Here are three reasons you need to pick up this fantastic film on Blu-Ray today!

Captain Underpants Cast

The Cast

Certified Fresh on RottenTomatoes.com, this outrageous family comedy tells the story of two overly imaginative best friends, George (Kevin Hart) and Harold (Thomas Middleditch), who hypnotize their principal (Ed Helms) into thinking he’s the hero from their comic books: Captain Underpants. It also features the voice talent of Nick Kroll as Professor Poopypants.

The cast really makes this film what it is. My husband and I are huge fans of Silicon Valley and Penn Zero: Part Time Hero, so we already loved Thomas Middleditch. But this movie made us even bigger fans of his – as well as the rest of the cast. You really cannot go wrong with a hilarious cast like these guys! Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie actually gave me all sorts of feels – I laughed, I was sad, I was happy, and then I laughed some more.

The Humor

When you sit down to watch a movie that has Captain Underpants in the title, you know there is probably going to be some potty humor. Even if you know nothing about the books and have only seen the trailer, you can pick up on this. Usually these jokes get old and seem silly to me, but I know my girls enjoy them so it did not stop us from going to see the movie. Honestly, I was laughing so hard through this entire film – and I think I even teared up from laughing  a few times.

I promise you that this movie is so well done, that you will be cracking up, even if you do not normally enjoy potty jokes. I mean, as you read above one of the character’s name is Professor Poopypants. You will have to watch the movie to find out his full name. It is so worth it, I promise. I can’t even type this right now without giggling!

As you probably know, Taika Waititi is directing Thor: Ragnarok, which hits theaters on November 3rd, 2017. When I heard this news, I was thrilled – because I love his work. But in talking with friends about it, I was honestly surprised by how many knew nothing about him or his movies. I immediately gave them a list of three movies and told them to watch them right away.

What We Do In The Shadows

A documentary team films the lives of a group of vampires for a few months. The vampires share a house in Wellington, New Zealand. Turns out vampires have their own domestic problems too.

This is the first Taika Waititi film that I had ever seen. My husband and I are huge fans of Jemaine Clement, who plays one of the main characters in this movie, and that is how we found it. We searched him on Netflix, and came up with What We Do In The Shadows. It looked like a movie that we would enjoy, and so we put it on. Since then, we have watched it at least ten times. This movie is BRILLIANT. If you want to get an idea of Taika’s style and humor, this is a great film to start with. I am beyond excited for the sequel, which will focus on the Werewolves! Rhys Darby is set to star in it, so you know it will be hilarious!

Hunt-For-The-Wilderpeople

A national manhunt is ordered for a rebellious kid and his foster uncle who go missing in the wild New Zealand bush.

Because we loved What We Do In The Shadows so much, my husband and I started searching for more of Taika Waititi’s films. We hit the jackpot when we discovered Hunt for the Wilderpeople. This movie is incredible. There is no other way to put it – incredible. You will laugh, you will cry – and you will LOVE Hec (Sam Neill) and Ricky (Julian Dennison). I would go as far as to say that those two are one of the best on-screen duos I have ever seen. Just thinking about this movie makes me want to watch it again.

Eagle vs Shark

Lily (Loren Horsley), a socially awkward fast-food waitress, meets Jarrod (Jemaine Clement), an equally oddball video-game clerk, at a costume party. She flips over him, even though he is not exactly the nicest guy around, and the pair begin a strange relationship. Gearing up for his ultimate revenge against a high-school bully, Jarrod dumps Lily, but she digs her heels in and refuses to give up the fight.

Eagle vs. Shark is fantastic. My husband and I were laughing the entire time while watching it. The dry humor of it is something we have come to expect from Taika’s movies – and we love it. As with many (perhaps all?) of his movies, he has worked himself in there. This time as a dead brother.

The movie starts off with Lily talking to herself in the mirror and just gets better. When she is doing the male voice, my husband and I couldn’t help but giggle. There is also a pretty amazing fight scene in this film towards the end – trust me, it is fantastic. My husband and I can’t go on a long roadtrip without playing HORSE anymore. I try not to give any spoilers away, so you will just have to watch it to get those references. I promise you, this is a movie you are sure to love!

Thor: Ragnarok

We started watching Taika’s films before we even knew he would be directing Thor: Ragnarok. My husband and I are huge comic book and Marvel fans, so this is a movie we cannot wait to see. I was so excited to discover that Taika was taking the reins on it, because I know it is going to be the perfect combination of humor and action. If it is anything like what we have seen in the trailers, we are in for a treat!

My family and I were thrilled to find out that we were going to be able to attend the 2017 Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. Our trip was planned for August so we thought for sure we were going to miss it! But the party started on August 25th this year and thanks to Disney, we were able to attend! We went in 2015 and it is something we have been dying to get back to. It is hands down one of the funnest Disney Events because there is so much going on. Here are all the things you can experience this year!

Meet and Greets

My favorite thing about the Halloween Party is the special meet and greets that you can find. There are lots of rare ones like Jack Skellington and Cruella DeVil. I already wrote an article detailing all of the special 2017 meet and greets that are available – but I will say my favorite was definitely Cruella! She was so much fun to talk with – and kept asking us questions about our puppies. I wonder why?

Trick or Treat Stops

My daughters love trick or treating around Magic Kingdom! It is probably one of their favorite parts of the whole party. When we went in 2015, there was a whole path that was lined with trick or treat stops. This time, the stops were more spread out, which made it more fun. The stops were marked with Mickey Mouse pumpkin heads on the map, and giant light up inflatables throughout the park. These lines moved pretty quickly – and it is easy to leave the park with more candy than you know what to do with.

While some of the rides are Magic Kingdom are closed during MNSSHP, many are still open! This is a great time to get on those rides that you can wait hours for during regular hours. I recommend trying to at least hop on Peter Pan’s Flight and Space Mountain! Here is a list of all the rides that were open when we just went, in 2017:

Let’s admit it – one of the best things about Disney World is the food – and MNSSHP is no different. There are tons of delicious treats available that you can only get there. These include a Jack Skellington Dessert, Haunted Mansion Portrait Desserts, Pumpkin Cheesecake Dome, and Candy Corn Soft-Serve Ice Cream. TIP: Get your treats early on in the night (before 10:30pm) as they seem to sell out pretty fast!

Since I am a collector by nature, one of my favorite things about MNSSHP is all of the exclusive merchandise. I went in to this night looking to pick up at least one exclusive pin for my pin collection, and left with three. There were a lot of exclusive pins to choose from – and trust me, I wanted them all. Not only were there 5 Disney Villains pins available – Ursula, Evil Queen, Jafar, Captain Hook, & Maleficent – there is also Hades (Disney Annual Passholder Exclusive). I had to get Ursula, Maleficent, and Hades. We also picked up some of the limited release mystery pin packs. There are 12 possibilities, and we got 4 different ones. This set does include 4 limited edition chaser pins.

Brand New Trailer & Poster for Disney•Pixar’s COCO Revealed!

Who doesn’t love a good Disney•Pixar movie? I mean, you are guaranteed to feel love, sadness, and to cry – a lot – for both of those reasons. Take Inside Out for example – I still cannot hear the words “Bing Bong” without shedding a tear or twenty. But that is what makes me love these films so much. They make me feel things. And from the moment I saw the first glimpse of Coco at the D23 Expo in 2015, I knew that it would do the same. The latest trailer and poster just came out and WOW, they have me even more excited for this movie than I already was.

My girls and I have watched the new trailer a few times, and they are getting more and more thrilled to go see this movie over Thanksgiving break. They have been walking around like skeletons and pretending to sneeze at our dogs (watch the trailer above and you will get it). This is on our must see list – and honestly it has been for quite a while. We love music in our house so this is a movie the whole family has been looking forward to seeing.

New LEGO Dimensions Expansion Packs add Hours of Fun

In this house, we play video games in our spare time. It is a great way to bond as a family – and obviously, it is super fun! One of our favorite games to play together is LEGO Dimensions. We take turns with the controllers and always end up giggling and having a great time. There are several reasons I think you should buy this game (check it out here) and the list just got longer! In stores TODAY (September 12) are a few must have expansion packs. These packs feature some well known and favorite characters from Teen Titans Go!, The Powerpuff Girls, and Beetlejuice!

We were all super excited when these expansion packs arrived (thanks Warner Bros. Entertainment!) and opened up them up right away. My girls love The Powerpuff Girls & Teen Titans Go! so they were jumping around the house when they saw that we had these expansions. One of the major reasons I love LEGO Dimensions is because it is a game you can play for years and years because of all the expansions that continue to be released. With these new packs, we just added hours and hours of more gameplay and family fun!

The Powerpuff Girls Team Pack

Sugar, spice and everything nice! Bring Townsville to life in the LEGO DIMENSIONS Multiverse with Blossom and Bubbles! Build and place the sugar-coated, Chemical X superheroes and launch them into the Multiverse to save the day. Fly around and use ultra-super powers like Blossom’s Heat Vision and Bubble’s Rainbow Beam to fight crime and battle the forces of evil.

DisneyNature movies are some of my favorite movies to cuddle up with my daughters and watch. They love them because they are filled with adorable animals, and I love them because – well, basically the same reason. I am always impressed by how much my girls learn about nature and animals when we watch them. Yes, there are usually some rough parts to get through, but they understand the circle of life very well for a 4 and 5 year old – in part due to films like these.

When I received a copy of Born in China to watch with my girls, I was super excited! I was warned going in to it that I would need to have a lot of tissues with me. Well, I did need tissues – and a lot of them. This movie was exactly what I have come to expect from DisneyNature – entertaining, adorable, and very real. I loved learning about all of the animal babies and their families. You do get a bit of “circle of life” stuff as I mentioned above, so make sure your child (and OK, you) can handle that.
