Overlord is a movie that I had been looking forward to for a long time, and I finally got to head to theaters this week to see it! It was well worth the wait because it was amazing! I knew that since J.J. Abrams was involved, it was going to be good. But honestly I did not expect to love it as much as I did. I am a big fan of horror and thriller movies, and that is exactly what Overlord it – with a LOT of gore thrown in the mix.
The Story
I am going to be honest with your here, the story was a million times better than I expected. We start off with soldiers in a plane heading in to the war in France, and it just gets better from there. The action starts pretty much immediately. From there it just gets weirder and weirder. A French woman joins up with our surviving soldiers to bring them to her town, where their mission is to destroy a jamming tower. They soon discover that there is lot more going on, including experiments on the townspeople.
Throughout this movie you will see a lot of gross things. There will also be some moments that will make you nearly jump out of your skin. There is even some slight sexual assault, so if you are taking your kids – even your grown kids – be leery. That is the only part that made me a little uncomfortable, but it was necessary to propel the movie forward.
Fitz
Yup. I am going to say it. I love me some Fitz. Well, he is Fitz in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., in Overlord he plays a photographer named Chase. His real name is Iain De Caestecker and he is gorgeous – I mean, a very talented actor. Well, he is both. He wasn’t in Overlord as much as I would have liked to see, but the parts he was in were pretty amazing. He did a great job and loved his character. I am going to avoid a spoiler here but one certain scene with him, his last scene, was one of my favorite scenes in the movie.
The Gore
If you don’t like gore, don’t bother to see this movie. It is filled with it. Including a Nazi talking with half his face shot off at one point. For several minutes on the screen. Yea, it is CRAZY! But what do you expect from J.J.? We see some pretty grotesque things – and I love it all. What can I say? I am a horror girl.
I highly recommend Overlord, especially if you are in to thrillers. The ending gets a bit predictable – and I totally think it should have ended as Nick Fury’s past, but it is something I will watch again nonetheless.
My daughters love making ornaments for our tree. And my husband and I love putting them up every year. There is nothing quite like pulling one out to hang up and remembering all the memories that go with it. Their favorite ornament to make is a melted snowman ornament. I came up with this idea a few years back, and they make a new one every year. I figured it was time to share this idea with the world – because it is super cute if you ask me! So here is how you and your kids can make a melted snowman ornament of your very own.
mini scarf, top hat, and/or small sticks (optional)
It is really easy to create this ornament. The first thing you need to do is pop the top off the ornament. You could also use the plastic balls that pop in half, but I have found that to be harder and messier. Fill the ball with a few handfuls of filler beads or epsom salt to make your “melted snowman”.
Cut a small carrot nose out of the orange felt, or use the fake carrot, and place in the ball. Put the 3 small buttons, and 7 black beads (which represent the coal eyes & mouth), in the ball as well. Put the top on, or place the halves together (which you might want to glue if you go this route).
That is it! You are done! If you wish to add in some other details you could include a mini scarf or top hat. Maybe even some stick arms. These ornaments make a really cute holiday gift idea for friends and relatives! Be sure to pin this how to so you can find it easily in the future!

My family has had a tradition of going to see Disney on Ice yearly for quite a while now. I used to go as a child and it is some of my fondest memories. So as soon as I had kids, I knew this was going to be something we were going to do whenever it comes to town. My girls have been loving it, and look forward to the winter because we know that is when Disney on Ice comes. Unfortunately my husband is working nights the week that Disney On Ice presents Worlds of Enchantment comes to town, but that just means for the first time the girls get to invite a friend! They are so excited to share this world of wonderment with a girl that has never gone before. The show will run in Syracuse at The Oncenter War Memorial Arena from December 13th to the 16th, and there are several shows you can attend. Wreck-It Ralph is one of my all time favorite movies, so I was super excited when Disney invited me to checkout the sequel, Ralph Breaks The Internet, at the World Premiere! I did so many amazing things over the course of a few days, and one of my favorites was getting to watch the movie. It was so much better than I expected, and totally made me cry. Twice.
There are so many Easter Eggs in this movie I don’t even know where to start. I am sure I didn’t even notice a quarter of them the first time around, so I will have my eyes peeled watching it with the family today. As a Marvel fan girl, you know I was excited for some Marvel mentions! Not only do we get an appearance by Stan Lee, who recently passed away (RIP), we see one of my favorite Guardians. Yea, I was screaming from excitement at that point. Ask anyone in the room, it is true.
Guys. The princess scene is everything. I feel like a broken record about this, but it is. Just when you think it is going to end, it keeps going. And then they pop up again later on and it is even more amazing. To see them all in their comfy shirts, and poking fun at themselves. AMAZING. Truly amazing. I am a huge Disney Princess fan, so I was leery about this scene. But it delivers. And then some.
Ralph Breaks The Internet is so relevant to this day and age. As we can probably all agree, the internet is taking over. There are so many things to get sucked in to, from click bait, to online gaming, to viral videos. In this movie, Ralph and Vanellope discover BuzzzTube which is basically YouTube. On Buzzztube you post videos and vie for the hearts of others. Basically the thumbs up likes that you get on YouTube. Yesss tells Ralph to never read the comments, which is advice I should totally take but never do. The internet isn’t for those with thin skin, that is for sure.
KnowsMore and Yesss are just a few of the new characters in this movie that really bring the humor. Alan Tudyk voices KnowsMore and you should know that I love him. His character is witty and fun, and made me smile every time I saw him on the screen. While Shank, voiced by Gal Gadot, brings a lot more heart than I expected. She is a total badass that Vanellope looks up to, and heck, I do too! She gives some great advice that I probably should take myself.
Of course this movie is hilarious. We already know Ralph and Vanellope from Wreck-It Ralph and so you know they are going to get in to some crazy situations. Fix It Felix and Calhoun bring some laughter too! But what I was not expecting was to cry. Twice. This movie brought so much heart. It will teach kids (and maybe some adults too) a really important life lesson. Shank says it in the trailer, there is no rule that best friends have to have the same dream.
If you are a movie fan than you know it is often wise to stay through the credits. Ralph Breaks The Internet is no different. There is a mid-credit scene, which is totally awesome. And then there is an end-credit scene, which is even more awesome. Trust me when I say it is worth staying through the long (yes, long) credits. So worth it. Don’t leave. You will regret it.
Overall, this is a must see movie that the whole family is sure to love. Thanksgiving break is the perfect time to take everyone to see it – I know we are taking the girls tonight! Everyone is sure to fall in love with the new characters, and love seeing their favorites from the first movie. Oh, and if you are sensitive like me, bring some tissues.

During the Ralph Breaks The Internet event we were all lucky enough to sit down with Pamela Ribon. If you don’t know who she is – you should. Not only is she a brilliant mind, but she is so much fun. Pamela totally used to be a blogger too, so you know we all bonded. Well, she co-wrote Ralph Breaks The Internet, and even voices Snow White. She is the one responsible for the AMAZING Disney Princess scene, and she let us in on all the details of it’s creation. Oh, and we all cried together over women empowerment.
All The Original Voices of the Princesses
Well. Almost. You have to remember some of these films were made quite a while ago. The voice of Snow White has passed, and Pamela herself actually took over for her in this role. Jennifer Hale, who is a really famous voice actress, has stepped in for Cinderella, and Kate Higgins voices Aurora. Other than that, we have all the originals – Irene Bedard, Linda Larkin, Paige O’Hara – the list goes on. It is so cool to see (and hear) them all together.
Pamela told us that when Oh My Disney! was asked to be a part Ralph Breaks The Internet, they were thrilled! She joked that they said “They like us, they really like us!“. But seriously, they are a really great fit for this movie as they as a major Disney website. I have subscribed to them for years! There are many, many Easter Eggs in the Oh My Disney scenes, so keep those eyes peeled! I can understand their excitement to be included because if Marvel wanted to somehow add in a Mama’s Geeky reference to one of the films, you know I would be over the moon about it!
Of course these actresses have been voicing these characters for years and years! I mean, they ARE the Princesses. Pamela let us know that each and every voice actress added to the script and the scene. They know what their characters are like – the things they would and wouldn’t say. For example, Pamela let us know that one of the actresses told her that her character would not use contractions when speaking. It is things like that some people might not even realize or pick up on, but when you have been that character for years, you just know it. Pamela added, “Some of it is just who they are now – and that is surreal. You feel like you are meeting two people at the same time.”
Disney Princesses have gotten a lot of flack over the years. I think this scene nails it when they ask “Does everybody assume all your problems were solved because a big strong man showed up?” I am raising two daughters, as you probably know, and that is not the mentality I want them to have. However, I love Disney, and always will. Movies were made in different times and I don’t think it is necessarily a bad thing. I do love that Disney is OK with….poking fun at itself though. And having all the Princesses together to interact with each other is just what we all needed.
“I am so thrilled that people are actually going to see it now,” Pamela told us. “When you try to explain it people can’t grasp what it really is like. It’s got a lot going on. What they are saying, and why they are saying it, and who they are saying it to.” If you keep your eyes and ears open, you will notice that the Princesses are doing a lot for each other in this “backstage moment“. It is loving and sweet, but also honest about how women are when they are helping each other out. I don’t want to give much more away, but just pay attention.
This Scene Was Risky
If I were Pamela, I would have been nervous pitching this idea too. Having seen it, I am SO excited that it all worked out. “My hope is that [this scene] is entertaining, and that’s the risky part. Is the Studio ready to talk about itself this way? Working on [Frozen and Moana] and watching the studio embrace Princesses, and be ready to talk about them in a modern way — what does it mean to be a Disney Princess?” Pamela explained to us. She then went on to talk about being a mother and a feminist, and that she hopes the audience understands and appreciates what she is bringing to the table with this scene. I know I sure do. It has a lot that needed to be said, and was said in a perfectly funny and witty way, in my opinion.
“A relationship can’t grow if we don’t talk to each other when it’s hard.” That is what Pamela had to say about Ralph and Vanellope’s relationship. I know I promised you guys fun facts about the Disney Princess scene, which I gave you, but I wanted to throw this little bit in too. In Ralph Breaks The Internet, we get a lot of heart along with the humor. Bring the tissues guys. I loved seeing this side of Ralph and Vanellope – and I think it is important that we do.

You might already know this about me but I am a huge collector. I love to collect things. Funko Pops, toys, figurines – anything Disney or geeky related, I want it. I almost never open the boxes and even if I do, I rarely play with them. Yes, I am that kind of collector, and I know if drives some people crazy. It certainly drives my children nuts, I can tell you that. Whenever a new movie comes out, I want all the toys. For my office. And I don’t let them touch them. It’s no different with Ralph Breaks The Internet.
When my girls found out that I was going to the Ralph Breaks The Internet event, they had an idea I would be coming home with some of the new movie themed toys. This isn’t always the case, but we just had a feeling with this one. They totally gave me a guilt trip about leaving and made me promise that I would be handing over the majority of my haul. I reluctantly agreed and boy do I regret it now, because we got some amazing items! Just check them out!
Dolls & Figures
My oldest daughter is a big fan of dolls. Dolls of all shapes and sizes. So when I got the Vanellope talking doll, I just knew I had to give it to her. I surprised her by placing her on her bed so she would find her when she came home from school. She flipped out, and now carries Vanellope with her everywhere. She has so many phrases that she says, which is a pretty cool feature! There is also a Ralph version, and of course a Yesss doll with clothes you can change. She went to my youngest daughter and has already moved in to the suite in her dollhouse!
Something that my daughters and I both enjoy is blind bags. There is something about a mystery that draws me in. Even though I always end up getting the same ones. Seriously, I have triples of some figures because I keep getting the same mystery one. These super cool new mini-figures and cases offer a fun way to display all your new Ralph Breaks The Internet swag!
If you know anything about me then you know I am obsessed with Funko Pops! I have a problem when it comes to them. For example, I was given one at this event, Fun Bun, who is amazing. But you know I am already ordered all the others. Because I am crazy. And they are adorable. And I am completionist.
If I told you there was a mad rush to the plushes and bloggers were literally fighting over the Fun Bun Bunny ones would you believe me? No? Well, that may be an exaggeration but I will say those left with the kitty were not exactly thrilled. It all worked out for my though because my youngest loves kitties, and was over the moon excited to be the new mom to Puddles. Had I gotten Fun Bun, he would be in my office and mine all mine! Muahahaha….

When I first heard there was going to be a new version of The Grinch was coming out, I was excited, but leery. I love The Grinch, he is one of my all time favorite Christmas stories. I mean, how can you not love a bad guy gone good all because of the power of hope and love and… Christmas cheer! When his heart grows three sizes I cry. Yup. In every version of the film. And this one wasn’t any different.
Same Story
Of course we get basically the same story that we know and love. The Grinch hates Christmas. He wants to stop it. So he decides to pretend to be Santa and steals Christmas instead of delivering it. During the night he runs in to little Cindy-Lou Who, who catches him trying to steal her tree. He tells her that a light was broken and shoes her off to bed. The next morning, even though the Whos have nothing, they come together and sing their Christmas song – because Christmas is a feeling and not things. This warms the Grinch’s heart and it grows 3 times in size (it was only 2 sizes too small if you recall). He brings back everything and stays for dinner – even carving the roast beast.
But Different
This version of The Grinch has a few differences that I really loved. First of all, for added humor we get a new Who, Mr. Bricklebaum voiced by Kenan Thompson, who is the jolliest Who in all of Whoville. I mean, this guy loves Christmas. He is hilarious and I fell in love with his character pretty much instantly. Another new character is Fred the overweight reindeer. The Grinch takes him into his home, and kind of ends up liking him. But just when he is about to steal Christmas, Fred’s family shows up and The Grinch allows him to leave.
In this version we also see a little bit in to the past of The Grinch, a bit more than we have in previous versions. He is an orphan, and he hates Christmas because no one ever loved or wanted him – and no one celebrated Christmas with him. Yup, this part totally made me cry. Another major difference is that Cindy-Lou Who wants to ask Santa to help her single mom out. Donna Lou, voiced by Rashida Jones, is exhausted between working the night shift and raising two twin babies and Cindy-Lou. In previous versions Cindy-Lou has asked for The Grinch to be happy.
A Must See
While there are some differences, this is still the same classic we know and love. It is totally worth taking the whole family to over the holidays. My kids loved it. There is a lot of humor and Benedict Cumberbatch does phenomenal as The Grinch. His tone is just perfect. Max is just as lovable as ever – of course we feel bad for him here and there, but admire how loyal he is to The Grinch. And yes, when The Grinch’s heart grew 3 sizes I totally cried. Like a baby.
Take your whole family to see The Grinch – in theaters now!
My family usually hosts Thanksgiving, and each year we try to find the perfect centerpiece for the table. This year we decided to let our daughters come up with an idea, and they hit the nail on the head! We went to a craft store and let them select all the Thanksgiving themed items they wanted to create it. This was so much fun (and super easy to make!). The best part? We can reuse most of it for the perfect Christmas centerpiece – stay tuned for that DIY!
To create this centerpiece, start by putting the string lights and clear beads in the bowl. Make sure they are weaved throughout so that when you light it up, you can see the lights from every angle. Put your turkey in the center, and sprinkle in the confetti and any other festive items you wish to include.
The best part about this centerpiece is that it is totally customizable! You can use all sorts of different items, and could potentially use items you find around the house! My daughters loved putting this together and cannot wait to show it off to our whole family when we host Thanksgiving this year. When the holiday is over, simply pack the Thanksgiving themed items away in a bag for next year – and pull out the Christmas stuff!

I was always a reader growing up, and that is something that I have instilled in my daughters since they were born. We are always adding new and exciting books to our home library, and nothing quite excites my girls like stories that they are featured in. There are several customizable book options out there, but the coolest one by far that I have come across is Kabook! Why? Well not only is your child included in the story, you are given a list of photos to take of your children so that they are illustrated in the story.

Yes, your child can be the hero in the stories, which is something my daughters loved (and yes, I did too!).
Easy to Create
I chose to order Hornswaggled for my oldest daughter because she loves pirates. When I first went to the Kabook! website, I was excited to see a list of the different photos I would need for the story. This made things really easy for me! I just pulled my daughter aside and told her that I wanted to take some photos of her doing silly things. She never questioned me and posed perfectly. Then all that was left to do was upload them to Kabook!, which was super easy.
I chose to create this book as a surprise for my daughter, but it is something you can easily co-create with your child. Just think of the great parent-child bonding opportunity! It takes just 5 to 45 minutes, depending on your photo session, but is worth every minute. It total it took me about 15 minutes.
The Quality
I can honestly say that I was totally shocked by the quality of this book when it arrived. The photos of my daughter were transformed in to illustrations that look and feel like part of the story! I mean, it was PERFECT! No one would ever know that the book isn’t always printed this way. It came out amazing! My daughter even brought it to school with her to show all of her friends. A Kabook! book would make a great holiday gift for any child!

My family spends lots of time down at Walt Disney World, and this last trip we were really close to checking out The VOID. It was a Star Wars virtual reality experience and we would have gone for sure if our daughters were old enough. So imagine how excited I was when I found out during the Ralph Breaks The Internet Event we would be checking out the new Ralph themed experience! It was all I could have hoped for and more, and now I can’t wait to take my girls and husband to experience it soon. Ralph Breaks VR launches November 21st, along with the movie, and pre-sale tickets are available now.
Immersed in a New World
This was hands down one of the coolest experiences of my life. When you do something like this, you are literally in the story. I was able to touch walls, smell what I was seeing, and even felt heat when I was by a “fire”. Something that everyone is sure to love is that you can choose your very own character when you are entering. I picked a cute yellow girl, but my friend Tania picked a purple man with a mustache. Every time she talked and I saw it moving, I couldn’t help but laugh. One of my favorite things to do was give my friends high-fives. It was so surreal to see my arm and hand as a netizen.
If you think the trailer looks cool, then just you wait! Somehow it is even better than they let on. I promise you, this is something you want to take the whole family to. Just check out my reaction to the trailer.
The Story Line
I am not going to give much away, I promise, but I am going to let you in on a little bit of the fun. First of all, this VR story line will not ruin any of the movie. So if you are able to head to The VOID before heading to theaters, don’t worry, nothing will be spoiled for you. It is it’s own story line where Ralph and Vanellope take you in to the internet to show you a fun video game. Of course, not everything goes according to plan, resulting in a LOT of fun! Hint: They do keep score, and there is a leaderboard, and a winner – so keep your eyes peeled and stay smart!
In teams of 4, guests will break into the internet with Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz disguised as characters from the film called “Netizens” to play the newest, coolest video game ever. Ralph Breaks VR introduces two brand new locations, Dunderdome and Pancake Milkshake Diner, and a new antagonist, B.E.V. voiced by writer Pamela Ribon, which stands for “Built to Eradicate Viruses.” You read that right, Pancake Milkshake Diner. I am sure you know some lovable new characters you might come across, but they won’t be as lovable as you might hope!

In “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” video-game bad guy Ralph and best friend Vanellope von Schweetz leave the comforts of Litwak’s arcade in an attempt to save her game, Sugar Rush. Their quest takes them to the vast, uncharted world of the internet where they rely on the citizens of the internet – the Netizens – to help navigate their way. Lending a virtual hand are Yesss, the head algorithm and the heart and soul of the trend-making site “BuzzzTube,” and Shank, a tough-as-nails driver from a gritty online auto-racing game called Slaughter Race, a place Vanellope wholeheartedly embraces – so much so that Ralph worries he may lose the only friend he’s ever had.
