Swing into the World of Spider-Man with New Exhibit at Sony Square NYC

Calling all Spider-Man fans! Whether you are a die-hard fan or a family looking for a free way to entertain your aspiring superheroes, stop by Sony Square NYC and be surrounded by all things Spider-Man. In anticipation of the July 7th U.S. theatrical release of Columbia Pictures’ “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” Sony Square NYC is providing an experience worthy of a standing ovation. Visitors to the showroom will get the chance to step into Peter Parker’s shoes (and leap off a crane to swing through the air in pursuit of Spider-Man’s nemesis The Vulture) in the Spider-Man: Homecoming VR experience on PlayStation®VR. Visitors will also be able to catch an exclusive viewing experience that creates the feeling of flying through the streets of Queens, New York, just like Spidey. Plus, props from the film will be on display, including a Spider-Man costume and Peter Parker’s backpack.

Each visitor will also get to leave the exhibit with a keepsake – a photo of themselves flying high above the skyline – just like Spider-Man! “‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ is a movie that will thrill the senses, and it was our goal to give fans the opportunity to experience that excitement before the film opens on July 7,” said Steven Fuld, Senior Vice President, Corporate Marketing, Sony Corporation of America. “This Spider-Man exhibit is exclusive to Sony Square NYC – it cannot be experienced anywhere else in the world.”

I really wish that I lived closer to NYC. Being over 5 hours away is not easy when there are amazing things like this going on in the city! I will say that I am thankful it is during the summer because there is a chance my husband and my girls will head to NYC to check this out!

I have been reading Marvel comic books for as long as I can remember. One of my favorites has always been Marvel’s Inhumans. I tend to really like the people from other planets, hence why Guardians of the Galaxy is also another one of my favorite teams. Something about Black Bolt though, has always intrigued me. The fact that by just muttering a word, he can destroy so much, is pretty brilliant.

When I first heard that Marvel was going to do something with the Inhumans, I was thrilled. Then we were told the movie was being put on the back burner. All of a sudden, an Inhumans show on ABC was being talked about and I was beyond excited. Medusa and Black Bolt are one of my favorite comic book couples and I cannot wait to see what happens with them. I have been patiently waiting for a premiere date and now we have it!

Premiere Date on ABC

The highly anticipated new Marvel television series “Marvel’s Inhumans” will bring the fan-favorite comic book series and a new kind of family drama to the small screen this fall on ABC. The network series premiere, including the first two episodes of “Marvel’s Inhumans,” will air FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network.

The legendary comic book series will be brought to life in a way that has never been done before, as a version of the first two episodes will be shown globally in IMAX theaters for a two-week period, beginning September 1, 2017. ABC will then air the entirety of the series throughout this fall on the network, with additional exclusive content that can only been seen on ABC. You better bet my husband and I will be making the drive to Syracuse to see this in theaters in September! I have already added it to our calendar so that there is no way we can forget about it.

My oldest daughter is big in to trading card games and she is only (almost) 6 years old. Because of this, Yu-Gi-Oh has quickly become one of her favorite shows to watch. She has quite the collection of cards and is actually really good at the game. There is nothing like getting to watch your favorite characters and creatures come to life on the TV though. That is why she was super thrilled to get an advance copy of Yu-Gi-Oh: The Dark Side of Dimensions.

As a massive fan of the franchise, I can tell you that my daughter was very impressed. The rest of my family, myself included, likes Yu-Gi-Oh as well, but our daughter is the expert. She is one of those fans that needs everything to be perfect, in order to enjoy it. Yes, we have taught her well – she can already tell when there are plot holes in something. So if she likes it, you know it is good. Thanks to her, I can say with confidence that this is a movie any true Yu-Gi-Oh fan will enjoy! And hey, even if you don’t know much about it, I can tell you it is entertaining and likely to keep your attention through the whole thing.

I have two young daughters – ages 4 and 6 – and they are huge Strawberry Shortcake fans. I admit, I may have had a little bit to do with that seeing as I have been a fan since I was a little girl. The fact that they are making new shows (and that we can still find the old ones I used to watch) has really solidified my love for the series. Cuddling up on the couch with them and watching a few episodes brings nostalgia to a whole new level, as I remember doing the same with my mom.

The latest Strawberry Shortcake DVD to come out is Dance Berry Dance. It is a really fun one with a lot of dancing and singing – always a great thing for young kids. It is sure to hold the attention of just about any Strawberry Shortcake fan – and is one of my favorites.

Synopsis

Dance along with Strawberry Shortcake and her friends’ adventures! Apple causes “The Berry Bitty Dance Disaster” when she invents groove booties to keep up with her pals’ moves. One of my favorite shows when I was younger was Power Rangers. I may or may not have played Power Rangers with my friends and family every chance I got. I even recall being glued to the TV and crying during certain episodes. Now that I have kids of my own, I am excited that there are Power Rangers shows for them. Because of this my whole family was really excited to see Saban’s Power Rangers when it came out. My daughter and 4 and 6, so we decided to watch it with only the 6 year old, and it was a hit!

This action-packed, coming of age film is available to take home on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand June 27 from Lionsgate. As part of the 24-year-old global phenomenon and based on the five Rangers from the original TV series, “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,”, the reimagined movie features a modern generation of Rangers as they attempt to stop the evil and unpredictable Rita Repulsa from destroying their city – and ultimately the world.

I admit, I was afraid this might be a tad bit to violent for my daughter, but she didn’t even bat an eye. I had some serious nostalgia watching it, and it held up to someone who has been a fan since the beginning. That says a lot. Whether you have been a fan for a while, or are just now getting into Power Rangers, you are sure to love this movie.

The newest game we downloaded is Noddy Toyland Detective. This app is based on a show that they watch on Netflix all the time. It is one of their favorites so you can imagine how excited they were to see a game where they could play as Noddy and solve cases! They couldn’t believe they could meet characters from the TV show including Bumpy Dog, Revs, Pat-Pat and the Panda Pockets, Fuse, the Naughticorns! This game quickly became one of my favorites too.

Our Experience

This is a great game for them to play alone, with each other, or with myself or my husband. We have lots of fun exploring Toyland in 3D and asking questions to uncover clues and solve mysteries. My 6 year old’s favorite part is creating musical masterpieces with the Pirate Band – she is going to be a composer one day, I swear it. You can also follow workout patterns, paint and decorate, solve jigsaw puzzles and so much more!

I love that my girls build investigation skills by discovering challenges, remembering, collecting, listening, thinking, and making connections. My youngest daughter is going into Preschool next year and this game is really preparing her for it – without her even knowing. The skills she is developing include language, sentence structure, and of course, creativity through play. I am shocked by the words she is learning and using – and she is even starting to read now!

One of my favorite things about this app is that there is no advertising or in-app purchases. Honestly, that is something I worry about most when I let me girls have their tablet to play without me watching over them. Even though I have set my account to require a password for them to purchase, I am always nervous they will somehow crack the code. So this take a huge weight off my shoulders.

Noddy Toyland Detective allows me to set up the length of time they can play, which is ideal for letting them have the tablet at bedtime. I also really like that I receive email notifications when they have finished a play session and create a new case for us to read together. Yup, each time they play, a storybook is generated! Summer is finally here – but not every day is going to be perfect and sunny. Let’s face it, some days you are going to have to stay inside. It could be raining, or just too hot. I have two little girls (ages 4 and 6) and I know how hard it can be to entertain them sometimes. Here are some screen free ideas that we do together when we just can’t get outside.

My daughters love to help me and my husband in the kitchen. They are always asking to help stir, measure, and pour. One thing that we have found is really fun to do when the weather is forcing us to stay inside is cook together! There are so many cooking kits for kids that have kid size utensils. Some of them even come with cookbooks! My 6 year old is becoming quite the home chef – she is better than her mommy if I am being totally honest. Cooking is a really fun family activity, and it teaches kids a valuable skill they will use all their lives.

My husband and I are trying to teach our daughters to be creative. He is an artist by nature, I – well, I am not. But if you give me detailed instructions and all the materials I need, I can put something pretty decent together. My girls have been loving the craft kits we have been getting – and a rainy day is the perfect time to pull one out! As you might have figured out, I am a little bit geeky – and totally raising my girls to be the same way. So when we pick out craft kits at the store they are usually themed around comic books, movies, or Disney. My personal favorite has been the Marvel Universe Felt Kit!

Pretend Play Together

Some of my favorite moments with my daughters include picking up a few toys and creating an hour of a story with them. My 4 year old’s current favorite story line is throwing pretend birthday parties for, well, for basically any little character she can get her hands on. We have a few PLAYMOBIL sets and they always end up as part of the story. One of her favorites is the new Ice Cream Truck. Of course, our toys are always stopping by to order a frozen dessert from the window. The ice cream for the birthday parties is always ordered from the PLAYMOBIL ice cream man!

Why Cars 3 Has a Great Lesson to Be Learned…But Isn’t for Tired Young Kids

We are Disney fanatics in our home and have really been looking forward to see Cars 3. On opening weekend, we decided to go see it, and are very glad we did. My husband and I really enjoyed the movie and thought it shared a great lesson for kids and society in general. However, our girls were maybe a tad young (and tired) for it – they are 4 and (just turning) 6. I do think this is still a must see movie, but for the younger kids, perhaps waiting until it is on DVD and Disney Movies Anywhere is best.

Appropriate Age

I am going to be totally honest here, my 4 year old was asleep within the first 15 minutes of this movie. However, let’s take into consideration that we had been camping for two and a half days in the hot sun so she was exhausted. But my 6 year old, who is usually really good at movies, got bored in the middle and started singing to herself. At times there was a lot of talking, which helped explained the plot, but it could be a lot for young kids.

My husband and I both really enjoyed this film and agreed that ages 7 or 8 and up would be best for it – if you want your kids to really get the film and the lesson it gives. All that being said, it really does depends on the kid. If your kid is a huge Cars fan, they just might have no problem sitting through this film and paying enough attention to understand the important lesson to be learned. If they are especially young however, I recommend going to the theater first thing in the morning or right after nap time.

Positive Message

Now, I have seen some reviews state that this movie is not good for young girls or women. I have seen them say that some of the race cars talk down to the female cars. While this is not exactly wrong, I don’t think it had much to do with the cars being women (with the exception of one part). The way I saw it was they were treating the car like that because she was a trainer and not a racer. That being said, the story line could have accomplished the same thing if the trainer car was male. Then there would not have been as much backlash. Still, this in an important lesson that kids should learn (trying to avoid spoilers here).

My husband and I rarely get a date night so we are very particular about the movies we choose to see in the theaters. The House, which stars Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler, is one of those movies. From the first time we saw the trailer we knew this was a “must see in theaters” type of movie. It looks hilarious and right up our alley, not to mention the entire cast is filled with our favorite actors.

One of the many reasons we want to see this movie is because we have two daughters that we would do just about anything for. In fact, our 5 year old, who is in Kindergarten, was the top fundraiser earner this year in her school. Yes, her entire school. That is grades Kindergarten through seventh. That is a lot of kids. I spent many hours sending emails and making phone calls to family and friends. There have been a lot of fundraisers and all of them come with prizes for the top earner. And if my little girl wants to “win” a bunch of silly plastic toys, well, we are going to do whatever we can to make that possible.

As I am sure many of you know by now, I am a HUGE Marvel fanatic. I collect the comic books, I collect the toys, I collect the movies – and I even have a few Marvel related tattoos. So I was thrilled to hear today that Sony Music announced the release of SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) featuring the music of Grammy® and Academy Award®-winning composer Michael Giacchino. The soundtrack will be released on July 7 and is available for pre-order now.

I have loved all of the past Spider-Man movies (he is one of my favorite Marvel characters) but I am really excited about this one. I thought Tom Holland was incredible in Captain America: Civil War, and though we did not see him much there, I think we are in for a real treat! He seems like an incredibly talented young man and I cannot wait to see where he takes Peter. Just looking at the tracklist this morning gave me goosebumps! This film is sure to be incredible. I will be there opening night, that is for sure!

About Spider-Man: Homecoming

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

About the Composer

Composer Michael Giacchino has credits that feature some of the most popular and acclaimed film projects in recent history, including Inside Out, Jurassic World, The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Incredibles, Ratatouille and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Giacchino’s 2009 score for the Pixar hit Up earned him an Oscar®, a Golden Globe®, the BAFTA, the Broadcast Film Critics’ Choice Award and two Grammy® Awards.

Last year, Giacchino’s music could be heard in Zootopia, Star Trek Beyond, Dr. Strange, and Rogue One which marked the first score to be composed for a Star Wars film following John Williams. In addition to Spider-Man: Homecoming, Giacchino’s projects for 2017 include War for the Planet of the Apes and The Book of Henry. Giacchino serves as the Governor of the Music Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and sits on the advisory board of “Education Through Music Los Angeles”.
