My husband and I rarely get a date night so we are very particular about the movies we choose to see in the theaters. The House, which stars Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler, is one of those movies. From the first time we saw the trailer we knew this was a “must see in theaters” type of movie. It looks hilarious and right up our alley, not to mention the entire cast is filled with our favorite actors.

About The House
After Scott and Kate Johansen (Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler) lose their daughter Alex’s college fund, they become desperate to earn it back so she can pursue her dream of attending a university. With the help of their neighbor Frank (Jason Mantzoukas), they decide to start an illegal casino in his house. This movie is rated R.
The comedy “The House” also stars Nick Kroll (“Vacation,” TV’s “Kroll Show”), Allison Tolman (TV’s “Fargo”), Michaela Watkins (TV’s “Transparent”), Ryan Simpkins (“Arcadia”), Jessie Ennis (TV’s “Veep” and “Better Call Saul”), Rob Huebel (“Horrible Bosses 2,” TV’s “Transparent”), Cedric Yarbrough (TV’s “Reno 911!”) and Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner (“The Town,” “The Hurt Locker,” “Arrival”).

One of the many reasons we want to see this movie is because we have two daughters that we would do just about anything for. In fact, our 5 year old, who is in Kindergarten, was the top fundraiser earner this year in her school. Yes, her entire school. That is grades Kindergarten through seventh. That is a lot of kids. I spent many hours sending emails and making phone calls to family and friends. There have been a lot of fundraisers and all of them come with prizes for the top earner. And if my little girl wants to “win” a bunch of silly plastic toys, well, we are going to do whatever we can to make that possible.

I know I am not alone in doing whatever I can for my kids. Pretty much any parent would do anything in their power to get their kids what they want. Do you have a story like I do? If so, then you are sure to relate to The House! Let me know below and then enter to win yourself a gift card to plan a wild date night out to see The House!

My kids wanted to go to a Space camp, but I did not have any money to send them. So I got a job standing out in front of a business handing out sales pamphlets and it was hard work and very cold outside! But, I made enough money to send my kids to camp!
That is awesome! So worth it, right? Anything for our kids. 🙂
I do not have kids of my own, but my mom went into a lot of debt as a single mom so that my brother and I could have a good childhood.
Traded away a special event pokemon. Anything for my babies.
I have not done anything crazy yet for my kids.
Teaching a tween to sew, she had her heart set on something too hard. A little “elf” would come out at night and rip out seams and fix everything, so it came out ok. She never figured it out!
Craziest thing I did for my daughters was drive them an hour away to tennis practice, sit and wait three hours for them to finish, and then drive an hour home. I did this for years, several times a week.
Planned a last minute trip out of town to visit my husband’s grandma. We put them in the car at bedtime and drove there. The next day we went to an amusement park on very little sleep and then spent the rest of the weekend visiting with his grandma.
Also I’m having issues with the twitter entry. It says that the tweet is one character too long and I’ve tried to adjust it but it won’t let me count it for an entry.
That is awesome!
I don’t think I’ve done anything crazy. Or that I would think is crazy.
Probably spent a gazillion dollars on blind bags LOL They have a bin full of them now, but we all kinda love them 🙂 (side note: the Gleam twitter option, where you can tweet each day is longer than 140 characters so it’s not letting me do it :/)
Haha, my girls have a TON of those too! And thank you, I will check that out.
Awesome giveaway!
I have also for my kids saved up money from cleaning houses to get them their school uniforms.
I just laughed so hard at that trailer I almost spit cookie across the room. LOVE these two in anything so together I cannot wait to see them in a movie. Hilarious!!!
I totally understand what you are saying I have always said that I don’t care if I have a graduate degree and a house and a great job if any of that was in jeopardy and my kids needed something or needed to be supported suddenly because any of that was lost I would work at the corner store selling newspapers and candy or the McDonald’s – I would never ever want them to worry about how we get by or if we have a roof over our heads etc. I get this.
I used to jump off the top of my house all the time

Went ice skating with my grandaughter and didn’t know how. Boy what a time we had LOL
I have sold items at home to get some important books for my kids for school.
The craziest thing I have ever done for my kids is move back in with my dad so I can save money and give them a better life. This movie looks so funny, I love both Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler!
Sometimes we have to make sacrifices for what is better for our kids, am I right? I think it is great that you did that – and great of your dad to take you all in!
One of the craziest things I ever did for my kids was: my two oldest kids wanted to meet their Aunt who lives in Seattle. We had way less money than we do now and I was pregnant with our fourth baby. So Big Red Trailways Bus had a great promotion going on. So my husband watched our one daughter who would be 2 in October and myself and my older two went on a three day bus trip to Seattle from IL. We wanted to be there before my sister’s August 2nd birthday. I was due November 28th. So here I was about six months pregnant with two girls on a 3 day bus ride so they could meet their Aunt!! I was so exhausted and swollen by the time I got there that I was so miserable, but the kids were excited and ready to go! Plus this was the first time they saw mountains and weee in awe. Well needless to say, we took a quicker way home! YES, I was so crazy to do that, but my sister came out by us to see her next time ?
That is so great! I bet that is something that they will remember forever! Great job Mama! 🙂
Thank you! My oldest will be 43 in August and the age of the second child that I took will be 40 in July and the trip still comes up every now and then. Plus I’ve heard over a dozen times how dumb I was for taking a chance like that while being pregnant! ?
I remember one year that we did not have money for Christmas and my kids wanted some educational toys and I went and got a job at the Salvation Army ringing the bell!
I’ve gone overboard for school fundraisers, making a pest out of myself with friends, family and neighbors.
One of my grandkids wanted to win an ice cream party for her class. The student who collected the most Box Tops for Education wound win one for her whole class. I have collected them ever since the program started and I usually turn them in every year so they don’t expire before they are turned in. There never used to be expiration dates on them! Well, I put the word out to my friends, nurses, former co-workers etc. and to some of my family members. Well needless to say, she won her class the ice cream party. By the time the box tops were due, she collected 268 box tops.
She was everyone’s friend that day & the day of the ice cream party!
One of the craziest things is I signed up to do telemarketing from home after work to get money so my daughter could go on a trip for school. The trip got cancelled!
I sold tomatoes out of the garden (which wasnt what its cracked up to be) to help send her to summer camp.
I seem to stand outside a lot for my kids. I rang the Salvation Army Bell at Christmas time and it was so cold outside. I used the money to buy my kids gifts for the Holidays. We would have had no gifts if I did not work!
I have no kids f my own.
A few years ago, three of my daughters and I, brought blankets, water, snacks, and spent the night outside of a Walmart so I could buy a few of the toys my daughters’ kids wanted for Christmas.
They don’t let customers do that anymore (thank goodness)!
We waited in line at Best Buy on Black Friday for 17 HOURS to buy a laptop for my daughter- they FORGOT to say there was a limited quanity!

I know I have more crazy things, but I can’t think of any right now. I am a crazy grandma ??
One crazy thing I did was when she was selling candy bars. Gosh they were over priced things and they just werent selling. I bought like $100 worth. They were the WORST candy ever and I ended up finally throwing it out.
You will appreciate this. Everyone else said it was crazy, but I knew they would catch on. I let my nephew and nieces start reading all of my old superhero comics. I have three brothers and we all grew up reading comics and I ended up with all of them because I was the biggest superhero geek. It is an awesome way to get kids to read more and it will help them in school as well.
One of the crazier things was like the candy fiasco. She again was selling thing- cookies. I bought 5 cases and ended up selling them at work for her. Gosh it took forever.
One of the craziest things I have done is deliver newspapers for extra money for my kids. It was so hard and I only did it for 6 months!
When I was going through my chemo & radiation, right before my stem cell transplant, I used to shock my grandkids first, and then their friends when they would come over by saying, see what happens when you don’t eat your veggies! And then I would take off my hat and freak them out by showing them my bald head with only a few stragglers of hair left and a freckle or birthmark that’s on the back of my head, that I told them was my secret eye that I can see them with. Talk about scream and a couple of kids asked if I could guess what they were doing behind me with my secret eye! ?
This is getting a little harder for this old gal to remember some more antics! Sorry!
My husband just reminded me of the time our grandson was having a hard time selling all of his baseball raffle tickets. So the day before he was supposed to turn in the money and the rest of the raffle tickets he didn’t sell, needless to say, we bought the rest of them. The kicker was, not that we expected to, but we still didn’t win any of the raffle’s prizes! What are the odds??
My daughter wanted this one toy from WalMart for Christmas one year… on BF we went and stood in -30 for HOURS to get it. It was a complete madhouse!
A few of Our granddaughters collect Shopkins. We didn’t know this! We thought that only one collected them. Well we got our one granddaughter what she wanted earlier. But the last two we had nothing! So the day before Christmas Eve & Christmas Eve, we went to every Walmart, Target, Kmart, Toys R Us, Jewel, Meijer stores in the area to buy them. This was a high demand Little toys a couple of Christmases ago. We finally found a few at Bed Bath and Beyond, plus we had a couple of their coupons! Everyone was happy!
My daughter used to be totally into unicorns. On her birthday she spent the night before at a friends house and we put unicorn wallpaper in her room. She HATED it. Unfortunately she had to live with that until her room was redone. I think she threw out all of her unicorn stuff during that time.
I drove my 15 year old daughter and 3 of her friends halfway across the country to see GreenDay in concert. Then they talked me into getting into the Mosh Pit with them.
This is something my husband did. Our one daughter’s children were out sick for a couple of days. When they got back to school, the kids found out it was Veterans Day and that they could invite a Veteran to their school. Well they text their grandpa. He left work and went straight to the school. The kids were so happy and proud, because they got to go on stage with him & introduce him to their classmates and teachers. My hero acted like a hero again for his grandchildren! I don’t really know if this was crazy or an act of love ❤️
Our daughter’s late husband loved the Fourth of July and threw a bash every year. Well she has kept his tradition for the last six years. Not so much to have a party, but it’s a way to help keep his memory alive for their kids. So by saying this, we all try to help where we can. Well I forgot that a sugar tax was going to go into effect on July 1st (today) for our county. One cent for every ounce – which is crazy! So we went out at 10 o’clock last night and bought 12 / 12 packs of soda, ice tea, and Capri Sun drink packets for her. I have to say that I was a little surprised to find that the store still had that much inventory left! So I guess I am either crazy or cheap!
IF we just would have stayed home a little longer, we would have seen on the news that a judge put a temporary stop on the tax pending further arguments. OH well! IF we wouldn’t have gone to the store, I just know the tax would have passed!
Better be safe than sorry!!
I had accidentally eaten a chip that I realized that my son had already soaked with his spit after he put it in my mouth. Spitting it out would have upset him so I swallowed my pride and the chip.
Just about the craziest thing I’ve done is give him candy bars at night time. he done so well that day playing with others I was so proud.
I’ve got nothing! Maybe something will happen over the Fourth??
With me, you never know!
One of the craziest thing I ever did was have my 11 granddaughters for a weekend at my house. Talk about crazy! There was non-stop talking, eating, laughing and no sleep! Needless to say, that was a one time deal ?
Another crazy thing I did was a mass mailing for codes for a contest I wanted to win so bad! It was a few years ago and it was for a trip. No I didn’t win, but I spent a small fortune on stamps, envelopes, 3 by 5 index cards. Not to mention a sore hand from all the writing!
Nothing crazy, just typical everyday mom stuff.
I don’t think this is exactly a crazy thing that I’ve done for my daughter but it was a lot of work on a very hot weekend. I went through my entire house and collected a lot of things that I didn’t need. My daughter and I sold them at a flea market. I let her use the money for items she needed for her first year of college.
Last summer at the spur of the moment I had them pack their bags and I took them to Disney World. I didn’t have it planned or nothing. Was a crazy and great time. Thinking of something like that this summer but want to top that.
We bought a dog! Craziest thing we did.
We always threaten to just keep on going after our vacations! Our vacation in WI was over with and we drove there. Again we were saying that we weren’t ready to go home yet I always fall asleep in the car. Well this time was no different! When I woke up, I saw the signs directling us to Michigan! I was surprised and happy! Needless to say our vacation last three more days! It was great!
We drove to New York to pick him up when his flight got cancelled
I love to give my nieces and nephew over the top gifts year round not just for holidays. They are my weak spot.
I do not have kids but my cats are def spoiled. I do not go on vacation because I do not want to leave them or put them in a shelter.
My cat is crazy! We bought a cardboard house from Hobby Lobby that had birds, animals, trees and other things printed on it for the grandkids to color. Well the grandkids colored the pictures on them and started coloring the “bricks” on it now and then. Well we were thinking of getting a new one for them to color, but every time we went by the cardboard house, the cat was lying in there. Two days ago we found a couple of her toys in there. For fun, we closed the door to see what she would do. That night we found the door open and the cat sleeping in there again! Well she laid claim on the house and now it is hers!
I think the craziest thing that I have done for my kids is go a little overboard for Christmas!
I haven’t done anything crazy that I can think of.
