high school musical the musical the series review

My 8 year old loves the High School Musical movies. She has watched them more times than I can count and knows all the words to all the songs. So when I told her that High School Musical: The Musical: The Series was coming to Disney+, she let me know it was the first things she plans to watch. Which means she was extra jealous when I got to screen the first episode without her.

Now that Disney+ is in full swing, we have watched the first episode multiple times. She has her favorite characters picked out, and is desperately hoping to see Ricky and Nini work it out. Unfortunately Disney+ is going to be releasing a new episode each week, so this is not a series we can binge yet. But I admit, I will be eager to watch each new episode with my daughters, because I love what I have seen so far!

    It Makes Fun Of Itself

Who doesn’t love something that makes fun of itself? I know I certainly do. And that is what High School Musical: The Musical: The Series does. But in the midst of doing so, it is actually a REALLY good show. It isn’t one giant joke. It isn’t super corny. And it certainly isn’t not worth watching.

The way that this show is set up had me instantly hooked. Even my 6 year old, who was very MEH about watching it in the first place, can’t wait for the next episode!

    Reminds Me Of The Office

The Office is one of my favorite shows, which is one of the reasons I was so into High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. This show is very similar in shooting techniques. The cast talking to the camera is EVERYTHING. It gives us an inside look at exactly how they are feeling, which gives the series more depth.

    Phenomenal Cast

I feel like this cast was born to be in an ensemble together. They all play perfectly off each other, and I love it. The fact that I met the cast at the Maleficent: Mistress of Evil World Premiere after party might have pushed me to make this conclusion. But honestly they were living their best lives, and having an absolute blast together. Seeing that made me love them just a little bit more.

    Overall Thoughts

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is a show that knows exactly what it is. The name itself says it all. While it might seem silly, it isn’t. It is hands down one of my new favorite shows — and fun for the whole family! Something I will enjoy watching with my daughters, and something that will become ours. I cannot wait to see what happens as the series goes on!
