    My husband and I grew up watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It was always one of my favorite shows, and his too! So when we had kids, of course we introduced them too it. Both girls have seen the old cartoons (and love them) but one of our favorite things to do as a family is watch the new ones. We record them on the DVR and sit down and watch them all together – as a family. We all have a favorite turtle, but there is on character that always stands out to us – Usagi Yojimbo! Usagi is a Samurai bunny rabbit and he is amazingly awesome. We wish he was a regular, but the fact that he is in a three party story arc right now, is going to have to do!

    New Samurai Collection

    Playmates Toys is introducing new Usagi Yojimbo figures, based on season 5, titled Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In season 5, the samurai rabbit Usagi Yojimbo will reunite with the Ninja Turtles once again for a three part story arc that aired beginning July 23, 2017. The entire Samurai themed collection is available at all mass toy retailers – but check out Walmart if you want the full collection because they have 3 EXCLUSIVE figures!

    I was lucky enough to receive a package of all of these in the mail. I instantly knew that my girls, especially my 6 year old, would be all over them as soon as she saw them. Honestly, I tried to smuggle them up to my office so I could check them out first but I heard a cute little voice yell “THOUSANDS OF NEW NINJA TURTLE TOYS!!” and then the sound of feet – running. She all but tackled me so that she could check out all of the new toys. Now, of course there are not thousands of them, but to her, this was better than Christmas morning!

    Our Thoughts

    After playing with these toys for about a week, they are all still in one piece. That says a lot when it comes to toys in this house. My girls play HARD – especially with these toys because “Ninja Turtles fight mom. They battle all the time.“. It is summer right now and so my daughters can sleep in, play video games, and basically do whatever they want (more or less). But they keep coming back to these Playmates Samurai Ninja Turtles Figures. Not one day has gone by without me hearing an epic battle or pizza party going on with these toys – and I love it! Every now and then, they even let me play (it is not often and I HAVE to be Leo).

    The Playmates figures are all extremely well made. Most of the toys in our house are missing a leg or an arm within a day or two. I will say, I am very thankful we received more than one Usagi because he is certainly a hot commodity for them right now. Every now and then they argue over the XL one, but my 6 year old usually gets it. And yes, I have caught her sleeping in bed with it even though she is not allowed hard toys in bed – that stinker.

    Included in my package was a Usagi Comic Book signed by Stan Sakai, who is the creator of the Usagi Yojimbo comic book character. Sorry guys, I am keeping that all for myself. I already put it in a case and have it displayed in my office. However, I do have something for you!       I would love to win this for my daughter. She has been bullied by other girls that believe TMNT are “just for boys” and she feels like something is wrong with her because she likes them. I showed her this post and that girls all over are playing with them. I wish I had video ed her response. She lit up when she saw another girl like her with similar interests.
