While in LA recently, I was lucky enough to check out some footage of Descendants 2 and talk with the cast and crew. One of my favorite interviews was with Director/Executive Producer/Co-Choreographer Kenny Ortega, Executive Producer Wendy Japhet, and Screenwriter Sara Parriott. Kenny Ortega is a legend guys – I mean, Hocus Pocus & Dirty Dancing. I always enjoy picking the brains of those that work behind the scenes to make our favorite movies.

When in LA recently I was lucky enough to talk with Dove Cameron, who plays Mal in Descendants and Descendants 2. She was beyond sweet and I just loved our time with her. Speaking with her, I could tell how much she loves playing Mal and how much the character means to her. She is one of the few actresses that my young girls really look up to, and having met her, I can say I am very thankful of that.
One of my favorite people to interview is Sofia Carson. I was lucky enough to talk with her and Sabrina Carpenter when Adventures in Babysitting was coming out, and now again for Descendants 2. Sofia is insanely sweet – and it makes me feel good that my young daughters look up to her. After the interview, I mentioned how my oldest wants to be Evie, and Sofia made a video for the kids of us bloggers! I can tell you that I earned some serious cool mom points because of that.
China McClain is joining the cast of Descendants in Descendants 2 as Uma, Ursula’s daughter. Ursula has always been one of my favorite Disney Villains so I was eager to learn about Uma when in LA for the Descendants 2 Event a couple months ago. From the footage we were lucky enough to see, Uma is pretty amazing. She is strong and powerful, and China plays her perfectly.
Make it a family movie night with the beloved blue creatures in the fully animated, all-new take on The Smurfs when Sony Pictures Animation’s SMURFS: THE LOST VILLAGE debuts on 4K Ultra HD™/Blu-ray™ + Digital, Blu-ray + Digital and DVD July 11 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. I grew up watching the Smurfs and so did my husband – so this was a movie we knew we wanted to share with our daughters. We have really enjoyed the past Smurfs movies, and this one did not disappoint either.
I grew up watching Tom and Jerry – and have since shared my love for them with my daughters. My girls are 4 and 6 and some of the biggest Tom and Jerry fans out there. I was shocked to see them sit and watch the old cartoons for hours. I mean, they would watch episode after episode. It surprised me mostly because in many of them (maybe all?), Tom and Jerry don’t talk, which I figured might be a little boring for younger kids.
I want to preface this review by saying that I enjoyed both Toby McGuire and Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. Loved them even. As you likely know by now if you come here regularly, I am a giant Marvel Comics fan. That means that at times, I can be picky about the movies that bring my favorite characters to life. I will be honest, I went in to Spider-Man: Homecoming not knowing what to expect. But I was blown away by it. Dare I say it was my favorite Spider-Man movie to date? I do.
I have said it many times but one of my favorite things to do with my family is curl up and watch a movie. At least once a week we have family movie night where we make popcorn, squish together on the couch, and put on a family friendly film. It is a tradition I hope to carry on for many years. My girls are currently still pretty young, 4 and 6, so we need to find movies that are appropriate for their age. We found that in A Stork’s Journey!
One of my favorite movies is Bad Moms. I went to see it in theaters with a bunch of my girlfriends, as I think every mom should. We laughed, we cried, and we loved it. When it came out on Blu-ray, I of course, picked it up. My husband and I watched it together and he really enjoyed it as well. It was just something that as parents, we could relate to. So when I heard that there was going to be a second one, I was thrilled. Today, the A Bad Moms Christmas trailer was released and it exceeded all of my expectations.
My oldest daughter is big in to trading card games and she is only (almost) 6 years old. Because of this, Yu-Gi-Oh has quickly become one of her favorite shows to watch. She has quite the collection of cards and is actually really good at the game. There is nothing like getting to watch your favorite characters and creatures come to life on the TV though. That is why she was super thrilled to get an advance copy of Yu-Gi-Oh: The Dark Side of Dimensions – available now on Digital HD and coming home on Blu-ray June 27th.
