Geek Fuel July 2015

I love Geek Fuel. It is probably my favorite subscription box – ever. I am a huge geek, gamer, nerd at heart and so this box always impresses me. There has never been anything that I haven’t liked in a Geek Fuel subscription box. This month they totally outdid themselves. Every thing I pulled out I loved more than the last item. I am a huge Marvel fan and this box delivered on my obsession!

Geek Fuel July 2015

I immediately noticed the Geek Fuel Magazine had Steve Rogers on the front and I got super excited. It is because of Captain America: Civil War coming out and that is something I am counting the days for. I am a comic book reader so for me, this has been a long time coming. Right now the comics are doing Secret Wars Civil War and Issue #1 Geek Fuel Exclusive Variant Cover was included in this box as well! This is one excited geek! I couldn’t wait to read it. As soon as I turned off my video from the unboxing I cracked it open – SO GOOD. If you don’t read the comics, now is a great time to start. I am heading to D23 next month and I cannot wait to find out more about the next Captain America movie. I just know it is going to be amazing.

Geek Fuel July 2015

One of my favorite things inside this month’s box was the “giant pint for an ant-sized man” glass – a shot glass! It has Ant-Man on the front and is helping to celebrate the release of the latest Marvel movie. It just came out this past weekend and I feel like a horrible Marvel fanatic to say that I have not seen it yet. There was an issue with a babysitter last week and it just did not work out. But hopefully I make it soon (and I will post a review for you guys).

Geek Fuel July 2015

My favorite thing about this subscription box is that it always includes an exclusive T-Shirt! This month’s is fantastic and while I am a Marvel girl at heart – there are some DC Comics characters that I just cannot help but love – like Harley Quinn! This “le Tour de Geek” shirt features some awesome geeky characters like Harley, Batman, and even Link from Zelda racing bicycles. Five lucky winners received a yellow shirt vs. the black shirt. Geek Fuel usually does fun contests like this with a select amount of subscribers receiving an “even more exclusive” item. One month it was movie tickets to see Avengers: Age of Ultron!

Geek Fuel July 2015    Geek Fuel July 2015

Geek Fuel also always has a downloadable game. This usually comes with something fun like candy or temporary tattoos. This month the game is Burnstar (which is so much fun) and some yummy star candies. Also included in the July 2015 Geek Fuel box was a shiny! button and an Aliens vs. Vampirella poster. It is to help celebrate the upcoming comic book crossover that I cannot wait for.

Subscribe to Geek Fuel here and you will receive a special bonus item!

#FanGirlFriday: Avengers Bleacher Creatures #Marvel

Disclosure: Mama Smith’s Review Blog received this item in exchange for her honest review. All opinions expressed are 100% hers.

Avengers Bleacher Creatures

As you all know, I am a HUGE Marvel Comics geek. I really am. Hawkeye is currently my favorite Avenger. I love his stories in the comics and Jeremy Renner plays him so well in the movies. What you may not know about me, is that I am also a huge sports fan. I grew up outside of Boston so I specifically love the Red Sox and the Patriots. So when I heard about Bleacher Creatures and was told that I would have the opportunity to get one, well, it was a hard decision! I ultimately settled on a Hawkeye one over a Tom Brady one because my inner nerd won out.

Hawkeye Bleacher Creatures   Hawkeye Bleacher Creatures   Hawkeye Bleacher Creatures

These plush figures are really well made, super adorable, and come in so many different options. I would love to have the whole Avengers collection some day. They even have Ant-Man (the latest Marvel Universe superhero to hit the big screen). I take Hawkeye with me everywhere – he will most definitely be attending D23 with me next month. He even has a little quiver on his back with some arrows in it.

Hawkeye Bleacher Creatures

No matter what you are a fan of, you can find the perfect plush from Bleacher Creatures. I could spend hours searching their store – and have! There are so many amazing character plushes – and they all totally resemble who they are meant to be. They ship fast, are well made, and are adorable – what else could you ask for?

Disney Store to Unveil All New Product Collections at #D23Expo 2015

Disney Store Logo

I already could not wait to go to D23 next month and then I read about the new collections that the Disney Store will be featuring there. I told myself well I can’t spend too much money because I have to fly back – and then I heard that USPS will be on hand to ship items back to your home for you. Well, guess I will be spending a ton of money there, but hey, that’s OK. I am a collector by nature. I have many different collections and I cannot wait to add to them at D23! Read all about it below.

d23

Located within the Disney Consumer Products Pavilion at D23 EXPO, the Disney Store shop will feature new and exclusive products showcased throughout more than 3,000 sq. ft. of retail space. New items celebrating everyone’s favorite characters will be unveiled each day throughout the weekend. In addition to offering attendees the chance to shop special products not yet available to the general public, fans will also have the chance to meet the artists and designers who created these exciting new collections and be treated to the official Disney Store opening ceremony on Friday, August 14. During the ceremony, a special attendee will be chosen to “unlock imagination” at 9 a.m. alongside some of Disney’s most famous characters.

D23 EXPO attendees will get a first look at collections making their debut at the event, including the next installment of the popular Disney Fairytale Designer Collection; a Limited Edition Doll Collection from ABC Studios’ television series Once Upon a Time; Toy Story 20th Anniversary; and Disney Tsum Tsum.

Highlights of the new collections include:

Disney Fairytale Designer Collection

Disney Fairytale Designer Collection – Happily ever after meets happily evil in Disney Store’s newest series of the Disney Fairytale Designer Collection being previewed at D23 EXPO. Featuring five sets of Limited Edition pairs, these collector doll sets were designed by Disney Store artists and carefully crafted to capture the beauty and romance of fairytale friends and foes. Available for the first time at D23 EXPO, guests can pre-purchase the complete set of five Hero/Villain pairs prior to the general public pre-sale beginning online Monday, September 14. Following the preview at D23 EXPO, the doll sets will be released and available for purchase in stores and online starting September 29, with a new pair released each week. Each set is limited to an edition of 6,000 globally and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. This line expands into a collection of apparel, mugs, journals, home décor and more, available to the general public in stores and online on September 14.

Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time – Continuing the ‘heroes and villains’ theme, Disney Store will introduce the Once Upon a Time Snow White and Evil Queen Doll Collection, available exclusively at D23 EXPO. Limited to an edition of 300, the doll collection, inspired by ABC Studios’ television series Once Upon a Time, brings to life the beauty, magic and charm of the iconic fairytale characters from the show. Exclusively for guests who purchase the doll set at D23 EXPO, Ginnifer Goodwin (Snow White) and Lana Parrilla (The Evil Queen) will be available for an autograph signing at the ABC booth on the D23 EXPO floor from 4 – 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 15. This special opportunity will be followed by the Once Upon a Time panel taking place in Stage 23 from 6 – 7 p.m.

Star Wars

Star Wars – Disney Store will launch an exclusive collection of Star Wars items at the EXPO on Friday, August 14. The collection will feature apparel, collectibles, and toys, including the Star Wars Elite Series, a new line of highly articulated and detailed die cast action figures, representing characters from Star Wars Episodes I-VI. The action figures will be sold individually at Disney Store locations beginning later this year; however, EXPO attendees have the opportunity to purchase the full set of Star Wars Elite Series action figures, which includes D23 EXPO-exclusive versions of R2-D2 and C-3PO.

Star Wars

Additionally at D23 EXPO, Disney Store will introduce Star Wars Legion Helmets, a series of eight vinyl collectible helmets inspired by the Star Wars Legion Helmet project launched in early 2014. Celebrating creativity and Star Wars, the project pulled together artists from across The Walt Disney Company, resulting in 300 stormtrooper helmets being transformed into diverse pieces of art, which inspired these collectible recreations – epic additions to every Empire.

Toy Story 20th Anniversary – In celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Disney∙Pixar’s Toy Story, Disney Store gleaned art from the adored film’s archives to illustrate the evolution of the beloved characters, Buzz and Woody. Featuring toys, collectibles, apparel and more, this collection will be released at the Disney Store shop at D23 EXPO on Friday, August 14.

Disney Tsum Tsum – All-new collections of everyone’s favorite stackable plush will be unveiled at D23 EXPO, with one releasing each day in limited quantities in mini, medium and large sizes. In addition, limited-edition mini box series – exclusive to D23 EXPO – will be released along with each collection, and a Mickey Mouse Tsum Tsum mini vinyl figure will be available for $5 with any purchase, while supplies last.

Also launching at D23 EXPO is Disney Store’s “Disney 3D Print Studio,” which offers fans the chance to personalize figures, including Marvel’s Iron Man, with their likeness through the use of facial-scanning kiosks. The figures ordered at the event will feature packaging unique to D23 EXPO.

Recipe: Sweet Hickory Pulled Pork Stuffed Peppers

Tony Romas

My husband and I love to grill. We have even been known to be out on the grill with snow on the ground. There is nothing like it. We were super excited to try out some Tony Roma’s ribs and pulled pork because we had heard so many good things about it. The first night that this food arrived, we grilled up the ribs and WOW! The flavoring was amazing and they were so good. My husband sure knows how to cook ribs because he worked at a BBQ restaurant for a few years. Delicious!

Pulled pork is one of my favorite meals – only second to stuffed peppers. So when I got a recipe for Sweet Hickory Pulled Pork Stuffed Peppers from Tony Roma’s – well, I knew it was going to be a family favorite. And it was! Not only is it super easy to make, but the entire family loved it. Even my 4 and 2.5 year old asked for seconds! I love that the pulled pork comes with sauce already on it – making it a really easy weekday meal. Below is the recipe – trust me, you need to try it!

Sweet Hickory Pulled Pork Stuffed Peppers

  4. Fill each pepper with 1 cup pulled pork and 1/8 cup onions. Sprinkle with cheese.
  5. Reduce heat on one side of grill and place tin foil wrapped peppers on the side with lower heat.
  6. Grill for 12 minutes and open tin foil to check for doneness.

Family Fun at the PPG Syracuse Nationals at the New York State Fairgrounds

Disclosure: Mama Smith was given free tickets to this event. All opinions expressed are 100% her own.

Syracuse Nationals

Today I took my family to the PPG Syracuse Nationals Car Show at the New York State Fairgrounds. We were all very excited to go. My daughters actually really love old cars – I am sure they get that from their father. We ended up having a really good time, despite what happened when we first arrived (read below to find out more). I used to attend car shows with my father all of the time so it was really great to experience one again; it brought back a ton of memories! There are a lot of great exhibits and the Syracuse Nationals sure makes for a great day of family fun! There is still one more day, so grab the family and go tomorrow. You will not regret it!

When we were picking up our tickets to go in, a volunteer (or maybe an employee but I highly doubt that) was watching our line. The woman at the will call area was looking for my tickets and apparently a minute was too long a time because the volunteer asked us to step aside and let her help everyone else in line and then she could return to helping us. We explained that she was looking for our envelope of tickets in a box that had at least 50 envelopes and he told us that there was obviously an issue and we needed to move. Keep in mind there were maybe four or five sets of people behind us – and plenty of other lines they could go to. Our entry was all worked out in a matter of another two minutes but the volunteer continued to stare at us and make sounds as we waited. He was very rude and really put my husband and I in a poor mood before entering the show. However, after just a few minutes inside the show, and our attitudes turned right around.

The first stop for us was the Backyard Build-Off at Ol’ Skool Roundup (sponsored by Kammer Towing) and that was really cool! There were four cars to look at and we were able to vote for the one that we liked the best. The builders were given a $5,000 budget and several rules. It was amazing to see the transformation of some of these cars. My four year old loved this part and was excited that she got her very own ticket to vote how she wanted.

We spent a lot of time just browsing tons and tons of cars – there were tens of thousands of them – it was awesome! My husband is a real Volkswagen guy so every time we passed by one, we had to inspect it. He had so much fun talking with other VW buffs about the changes they made to their cars – what was done, how, and with what. When we found the CNY VW Club – my husband had a field day! He was so excited to look at all of the Campers, Bugs – and there was even a Thing!

The entire family had a lot of fun and if you are in the Syracuse area and are looking for something to do with the family tomorrow, I highly recommend going!

The four builders will unveil their never-before-seen creations at 10 a.m. Friday, July 17 in the Ol’ Skool Rodz building near Gate 10. “Artie’s Party” featuring pinstripers’ panel jam – presented by 1 Shot Company
Inside the Horticulture Building, pinstripe and airbrush artists at the pinstripers’ panel jam, known as “Artie’s Party,” work almost around the clock during the PPG Syracuse Nationals to hand-paint original automotive artwork on items of all kinds, from vehicle panels to skateboards to mailboxes. The one-of-a-kind items are then auctioned throughout the weekend, with this year’s proceeds benefiting Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central New York. The nonprofit organization serves as a “home away from home” for families whose children are hospitalized with serious illnesses or injuries. Last year, “Artie’s Party” raised more than $73,000 for the charity.
