‘Die’ced: Reloaded’ Review – Blood-Happy With Some Partial Issues

0

For fans of hyper-gore and slasher violence, Die’ced: Reloaded will be a good time, but it could have been so much more.

It’s not every day that a filmmaker gets to turn their short film into a feature. That means expanding on certain things and improving on what you’ve done before. In the case of Die’ced: Reloaded that means adding more kills, more thrills, and loads of blood. The film follows Cassandra on Halloween in 1987. She lives in Seattle and for her, it’s like any other teenage Halloween night. Get dressed up in a slightly skimpy outfit (but not too skimpy, she’s a final girl after all), have some drinks, talk to boys, etc. Well a wrinkle gets thrown into that plan when notorious killer Benny escapes an asylum and he has one person on his mind, Cassandra.

Die’ced: Reloaded takes inspiration from classic slashers like Halloween (what slasher doesn’t?) and more modern ones like Terrifier. It’s clear that those films inspired this one with the massive amount of bloodshed and the story. However, that doesn’t mean it’s straight up ripping those films off. Benny might be silent like Michael Myers, but he has his own personality that he shows off. Jason Brooks plays him and his experience as Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th fan films definitely gives him a leg up on other slasher villains of recent memory.

So without further ado, let’s jump into the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Die’ced: Reloaded.

The Good Of Die’ced: Reloaded

image 10

Right from the get-go, Die’ced: Reloaded does not screw around. Benny brutally dispatches his doctor and a nurse in excruciating ways. I’ve never seen someone shove a crayon into someone’s ear canal, and I really don’t want to again after this film. That’s what the gore hounds are going to be here for. If you love gore and the modern style of slasher, this is going to satisfy every itch. Benny is a breath of fresh air in a stale market for slasher villains. The scarecrow outfit does look awesome on screen and it’s easy to see people latching onto this character.

Die’ced: Reloaded is set in 1987, so it naturally has a synth soundtrack that helps a lot with the film. The synth tracks here are awesome and keep the blood pumping all the way through its 1 hour 21 minute runtime.

Eden Campbell’s performance as Cassandra is one of the highlights of the film as well. She plays Cassandra as your typical teenage girl, but doesn’t overdo it in the final girl department. She still wants to hang out with her friends, wants to talk to boys, and go to the Halloween party. She’s just a regular teenage girl and that’s kind of refreshing to see as well. Once she has to get a bit physical and Benny comes around, that’s when her performance really shines.

Overall, this is a brisk slasher that has some kills that’ll make you wince and squirm in your seat.

The Bad And Ugly Of Die’ced: Reloaded

image 5

The film might bet set in 1987 and have music that sounds like it’s from that time period. But it doesn’t really look like that time period anywhere else in the film. It all looks like someone’s trying to emulate the 80s, without actually looking like films of that era. Everything looks a bit too clean, a bit too new, even down to the clothes, which are very clearly 80s-inspired. It’s like a reprint of a pair of Nike shoes from the 80s, yeah, it looks like it, but it’s too squeaky clean.

There’s a large portion of the film where it just sort of meanders between the kills. The times with Benny are awesome and worth the price of admission, but there’s just a bit too much that feels like it was added here to pad out the runtime. It’s in these moments where Die’ced: Reloaded lost me a bit. The familial dynamic between Cassandra and her dad and brother is just stunted. It feels like they’re reading dialogue instead of actually being a family.

The final thing that felt off about the film is that it rushes to the ending pretty quickly. Just when it feels like its kicking into gear for a finale, it ends. Normally, that’s a good thing, don’t overstay your welcome. But here, it feels like it could have used some more love toward the end of the film.

Gore Hounds Will Be Happy, Hopefully Benny Is Back

image 11

The character of Benny, with his scarecrow outfit could be a new age slasher villain that people latch onto. For fans of hyper-gore and slasher violence, Die’ced: Reloaded will be a good time. But for the reasons above, it really could have been something much more.

Die’ced: Reloaded is out now for a limited theatrical run and releases on rental, digital, and VOD on August 12th.

Fixed Review: A Raunchy, Fun R-Rated Animated Comedy

0

Fixed constantly crosses the line with its raunchy humor, but that is the whole point. Surprisingly, it also features quite a bit of heart.

Netflix Unveils 'Fixed' Red Band Trailer & Poster

As someone who was not a fan of Sausage Party, I went into Fixed a bit worried it would not be for me. It only took about ten minutes for me to realize that was not at all the case. Perhaps it was Adam Devine’s soothing voice as Bull, or maybe it was just the brilliantly written humor, but either way, I can now say with certainty that Fixed is absolutely hilarious – and sneakily has a little bit of heart mixed in too.

FIXED (L to R) Idris Elba as Rocco, Adam Devine as Bull, Fred Armisen as Fetch and Bobby Moynihan as Lucky in FIXED. Cr. COURTESY OF NETFLIX © 2025

This film follows a dog named Bull who is about to be fixed. He is terrified of the surgery, not wanting to say goodbye to his you-know-whats, so he runs away to experience life to its fullest before going under the knife. The time on the town with his friends is filled with debauchery as he discovers all that the town has to offer.

When The Comedy Hits, It Really Hits

Fixed movie review
FIXED (L to R) Kathryn Hahn as Honey and Adam Devine as Bull in FIXED. Cr. COURTESY OF NETFLIX © 2025

Raunchy, dirty humor doesn’t always work. All too often it is funny at first, but loses its effect the longer it goes on, taking viewers out of a movie. At least that is usually the case for me. That said, the smart writing of Fixed keeps things interesting. Bull is out on the town, wanting to experience life, and because of this motive, the comedic events that are happening make sense.

The movie is not being dirty just to be dirty; there is an actual rhyme and reason to it. Because of this, the majority of the jokes landed for me. At least eighty percent of them caused me to giggle (and half of that sent me into laughing fits).

A Sweet Love Story Blends Well With The Dirty Humor

Fixed movie review
Fixed. Cr. COURTESY OF NETFLIX © 2025

What I love most about Fixed isn’t the humor, however, but rather the love story between Bull and Honey (Kathryn Hahn). Right from the very first time we see them together, I was invested in their relationship. I wanted nothing more than for the two of them to find each other, and that is part of what kept my eyes glued to the screen. I wanted so desperately for them to be happy.

Fixed movie review
FIXED (L to R) Adam Devine as Bull and Kathryn Hahn as Honey in FIXED. Cr. COURTESY OF NETFLIX © 2025

A large part of this is because of the voice acting. Both Devine and Hahn do incredible jobs, leading viewers to fall in love with their characters. Bull is so sweet and despite his flaws, he is a good boy and deserves everything his little heart desires. I also really appreciated Honey’s confidence, as well as the way she was willing to follow her heart.

Netflix’s Fixed is really a lot of fun. If you can stomach the raunchy humor, I highly recommend checking it out. This is a great watch with a group of friends on a Friday or Saturday night. It is off-the-wall crazy, shocking, and twisted, but an absolute blast.

Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 Review

0

Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 serves up a lot of mysteries, a lot of reveals, and a lot of unanswered questions, ensuring fans will return for Part 2.

Wednesday season 2 part 1 review

Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 welcomes fans back to Nevermore Academy. Wednesday finds herself a bit of a celebrity after the events of last season, and as you can imagine, she is not happy about it. While there is an overarching mystery for her to solve again this year, there are lots of small ones that are solved fairly easily along the way.

The Addams Family Plays A Much Larger Role This Season

Wednesday season 2 part 1 review
Wednesday. (L to R) Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, Joonas Suotamo as Lurch, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams in episode 201 of Wednesday. Cr. Jonathan Hession/Netflix © 2025

One of the most exciting things about this season is that the entire Addams family has a much larger role than in the previous season. Pugsly is now attending Nevermore Academy along with his sister and Morticia, Gomez, and Lurch are hanging around after Morticia opts to volunteer as part of the Gala committee to help the school with fundraising.

Having them around means that we can explore the family dynamics on a much deeper level. They bring emotional moments as well as comedic ones to the table, too. Seeing the mother-daughter relationship that Morticia and Wednesday have allows us to get to know them both a little bit, and relate to them on a deeper level. To say they are struggling to find their footing is an understatement, and I cannot wait to see if (and how) things resolve in the next part of the season.

An Intriguing Mystery For Wednesday To Solve

Wednesday season 2 part 1 review
Wednesday. Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams in episode 203 of Wednesday. Cr. Jonathan Hession/Netflix © 2025

The opening of Wednesday Season 2 did not at all go as I expected it to. This is when I realized that many of the puzzles and issues that Wednesday comes across were going to be solved quite quickly. This is simultaneously exciting, because we do not have to wait too long for some answers, and frustrating, as it takes the fun and suspense out of it.

That said, there is an overarching mystery that only half gets solved in episode 4, so there is plenty more to come.

Overall Thoughts On Wednesday Season 2 Part 1

Wednesday season 2 part 1 review
Wednesday. Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair in episode 203 of Wednesday. Cr. Jonathan Hession/Netflix © 2025

One of my favorite things about season one was Wednesday and Enid’s relationship. It kind of reminded me of Glinda and Elphaba, which I am sure the writers were going for. This season, though, that relationship feels strained. There is some drama and extenuating circumstances that I do not want to spoil for those who have not watched it, but overall, I will say I understand it and hate it at the same time. I hope that we get more of them together in the second half of the season.

Wednesday season 2 part 1 review
Wednesday. Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort in episode 201 of Wednesday. Cr. Helen Sloan/Netflix © 2025

Steve Buscemi joining as Barry Dort, the new Principal of Nevermore Academy, was a brilliant decision. He is absolutely hilarious. I have always been a big fan of his work and he truly shines in Wednesday Season 2. Once again, I do not want to give too much away, but he has a lot of mystery surrounding him that makes me unsure I can trust him – and I love questioning him.

Overall, Wednesday Season 2 is a pretty good start to the second season. Fans are given a lot of mysteries to try to solve and while most of them wrap up fairly quickly, the overarching plot is sure to make everyone return for the final four episodes to learn the truth. The fourth episode is by far the best and the most entertaining, and I cannot wait to see where things go from here.

Wednesday season 2 part 1 review

About Wednesday Season 2

Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), returns to prowl the Gothic halls of Nevermore Academy, where fresh foes and woes await. This season, Wednesday must navigate family, friends and old adversaries, propelling her into another year of delightfully dark and kooky mayhem.

Armed with her signature razor-sharp wit and deadpan charm, Wednesday is also plunged into a new bone-chilling supernatural mystery. Creator/showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar return for the spine-tingling second season of WEDNESDAY, alongside executive producer and director Tim Burton.

Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 is now streaming on Netflix, with Part 2 releasing September 3rd, 2025.

Weapons Review: A Terrifying, Twisted, Insane Ride

0

Weapons is a heart-pounding, intense, terrifying ride that will have viewers either on the edge of their seats or cowering behind their hands.

Weapons Review

From the very first teaser trailer, I knew that Weapons was going to be one of my favorite horror movies of the year. I am thrilled to report that it did not disappoint, and had me screaming, laughing, and pressing my body as far back into my chair as it would let me. As a parent, this movie was especially triggering (but not in a bad way). I love to be scared. Weapons delivered on that.

Weapons Review

The premise of Weapons is that at 2:17 am, every kid in Ms. Gandy’s class got up, walked out of their homes, and disappeared into the night. Honestly, this is a movie that is better and more effective the less you know about it, so go in as blind as possible.

A Terrifying Story… Especially For Parents

Weapons Review

The mom in me is likely what caused such a connection to this story. I could not imagine what I would do if I lost one of my children, no matter what the circumstance, but to have no idea what happened to them? That is probably the scariest scenario. Weapons definitely leans into this, but not too much so that non-parents will not resonate with it.

Effective Jumpscares & Intense Moments

Weapons Review

What is a horror movie without a good jumpscare or two? Weapons delivers on this front several times over, but it also doesn’t rely on them too much. The story being told here is a mystery at its core, which is what will keep viewers glued to the screen. The score and the intense up-close camerawork takes things to a whole new level, making the audience feel as if they are a part of the movie, while also causing their hearts to pound out of their chests.

Brilliant Storytelling

Weapons Review

The structure of Weapons is easily the piece of the puzzle that works best. It is broken up into different parts that follow each character individually, rather than telling a complete story at once and in chronological order. This decision slows the reveal, keeping viewers in suspense until it is time to reveal everything that has been going on in this town.

Weapons Review

This way of storytelling allows us to spend extended periods of time with each person, learning what they are all about and how they fit into all of the craziness going on. This was the best decision that could have been made, and really increases the intensity and suspense.

Overall Thoughts On Weapons

Weapons Review

Probably my only real issue with Weapons is the title of the movie. While I see what they were going for, and the reason is eventually revealed, it doesn’t make complete sense or accurately describe the film. I am worried that it will keep potential viewers away. Something like 2:17 and Ms. Gandy’s class would have been far more effective.

That said, there was a lot to love about this movie for horror fans. My entire screening had people jumping out of their seats, hiding behind their hands, and laughing after they got scared. The actors all bring their A-game, with not even one weak link in the bunch.

While it purposefully takes a while to get there, the reveal is absolutely bonkers and unexpected when it arrives. Weapons is well worth seeing in a packed theater, on the biggest screen possible. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this one.

About Weapons

From New Line Cinema and Zach Cregger, the wholly original mind behind Barbarian, comes a new horror/thriller: Weapons.

When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.

Weapons comes to theaters August 8th.

Freakier Friday Review: Filled To The Brim With Heart

Freakier Friday is an extremely fun watch. It captures the same feel of the first one, while adding in some fresh new elements. An absolute blast!

Freakier Friday Review: Filled To The Brim With Heart

Freakier Friday is the sequel that we did not know we needed. The first film, Freaky Friday, is so good that it made me nervous when I heard there was going to be another one. And after so long. That said, I was fairly certain that Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis would not want to ruin the legacy of their characters by making something that is strictly a cash grab. So I had hope. Cautious hope, but hope nonetheless. Thankfully, I was right.

Taking place many years down the road, Anna (Lindsay Lohan) is now a single parent to Harper (Julia Butters). Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) has committed to helping her whenever she needs it, but sometimes she oversteps – as parents often do. When Anna crosses paths with Eric (Manny Jacinto), who is a single father to Lily (Sophia Hammons), it is practically love at first sight.

With Harper and Lily struggling to get along and Anna and Eric’s impending wedding vows, it is time for lessons to be learned. Naturally, bodies are switched, with Harper and Anna becoming one another and Lily and Tess switching places. What follows is a wild, hilarious journey that is also packed to the brim with heart. Have tissues handy for the final act.

Jamie Lee Curtis & Lindsay Lohan Shine Once Again

Freakier Friday Review: Filled To The Brim With Heart

The reason that Freaky Friday worked so well is due to the chemistry between Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. They were never afraid to leave their inhibitions behind and just go for it. They both know how to hit those comedic beats just as hard as the emotional ones. I cried during the first film because of them, so to no one’s surprise, I sobbed like a baby at the end of Freakier Friday too.

Both Lohan and Curtis are incredible in this movie. It is very clear that they had a blast while filming and were so happy to be back together, portraying two characters that I believe they genuinely enjoy playing. They had me cracking up one minute and wiping away tears the next.

Freakier Friday Review: Filled To The Brim With Heart
(L-R) Mark Harmon as Ryan and Jamie Lee Curtis as Tess Coleman in Disney’s FREAKIER FRIDAY. Photo by Glen Wilson. © 2025 Disney Enterprises, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

While they are both amazing, Jamie Lee Curtis was the standout, once again, for me. She is not afraid to make fun of herself and her age, and will always go the extra mile for a laugh. There were a lot of aging jokes that I could relate to this time around, which made her role even funnier to me.

The Story Is Well Written & Makes Sense

Freakier Friday Review: Filled To The Brim With Heart

Something that can be difficult to get right in a sequel is the story. We need a solid reason why we need to return to these characters. It has to make sense in the world that they live in, and thankfully, Freakier Friday really nailed this one on the head.

The writing is brilliant. It is funny, sharp, and emotional. Every character is relatable in one way or another, but it really is the story of family at the center that has pulled us back to Tess and Anna. Lily and Harper do not get along, and Lily wants more than anything to go back to London. Of course, Harper wants to stay in Los Angeles. At the same time, Tess is way overstepping Anna’s boundaries with raising Harper. They all have things they need to work out, and walking in the other one’s shoes is the perfect way to figure it out.

The Newcomers Enhance, Rather Than Take Away From, The Cast Chemistry

Freakier Friday Review: Filled To The Brim With Heart
(L-R) Julia Butters as Harper Coleman and Sophia Hammons as Lily Davies in Disney’s FREAKIER FRIDAY. Photo by Glen Wilson. © 2025 Disney Enterprises, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Julia Butters and Sophia Hammons are a great addition to the cast. I can admit that I was concerned their characters’ stories would overshadow Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, but it doesn’t. Because of the body switch, they remain at the forefront, with Tess and Anna’s path enhancing it all. They have been through this before, and while they have their own issues, they are a lot quicker to try to solve them.

Freakier Friday Review: Filled To The Brim With Heart
(L-R) Manny Jacinto as Eric Davies and Lindsay Lohan as Anna Coleman in Disney’s FREAKIER FRIDAY. Photo by Glen Wilson. © 2025 Disney Enterprises, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

To no one’s surprise, Manny Jacinto is a wonderful addition as well. He is an incredible actor and his role as Eric brings a lot of the heart. He is the perfect choice for the man to sweep Anna off her feet. They are adorable together. It is actually pretty difficult to watch him struggle later on in the movie (no spoilers here though!).

Freakier Friday Is The Sequel We Didn’t Know We Needed!

Overall, Freakier Friday is a fantastic sequel that will have fans over the moon to return to this world. Sequels are hard to pull off, but this one has all the charm of the original while sprinkling in something unique and fresh. I was worried it would get confusing with so many bodies switched, but it didn’t.

Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are phenomenal. It truly is so good to see them back on screen together, having the time of their lives. Freakier Friday is evenly paced, hilarious, and filled to the brim with heart. Have tissues handy, because you will absolutely need them.

KCON LA 2025 was a weekend I’ll never forget. As a complete newbie to the K-pop scene, I dove headfirst into the world’s largest fan and artist festival, and it was the perfect introduction. The event, presented by Olive Young, wrapped up another phenomenal year from August 1-3 at the Los Angeles Convention Center and Crypto.com Arena, and I was right there in the middle of it all.

Courtesy of CJ ENM.

The concert kicked off with an incredible nod to one of the biggest K-culture moments of the year: the viral popularity of Netflix’s animated film, K-Pop Demon Hunters. It was a fantastic surprise when the concert was opened by none other than Gwi-Ma, the main antagonist from the movie! The crowd went wild. The momentum continued when three members of the super rookie group izna took to the stage to perform a stunning cover of the film’s hit song, “Golden.” It was an electric moment that perfectly captured how KCON celebrates every corner of Korean entertainment.

Electrifying Performances & New Favorites

The Artist Stages, which take place at the convention center during the day, were a definite highlight for me. Getting to see so many different groups perform was the best way to get to know the genre – and pick my favorites. I was especially impressed by MEOVV, who completely won me over with their unforgettable performance.

While I came in knowing very little, I left with a long list of new favorites after the MCountdown Stage performances, including P1harmony, Jackson Wang, Monsta X, and Aespa. This experience has me eagerly anticipating their full tours, now that I’m a certified fan.

Beyond the Main Stage: Discoveries and Dream Stages

Beyond the main stages, KCON truly is a full-immersion experience. The X STAGE, for example, was an incredible platform for talented rookies to make their mark on a global audience. I absolutely loved watching Hitg—they are adorable and are definitely going places!

On Day 2, I witnessed the Dream Stage auditions in the morning and then got to see the winners perform with Monsta X on the main stage in the evening. It was one of my favorite parts of the weekend; I felt like a proud parent watching them rock the stage. The energy was electric, and it perfectly showcased the immense talent of KCONers.

A Festival of Culture, Beauty, and Food

The festival grounds at the Los Angeles Convention Center were a destination in themselves. With 358 booths and 107 participating companies, there was so much to explore. I spent a lot of time learning about K-Beauty and can’t wait to try all the free products I received.

The K-COLLECTION exhibition zone featured top brands in beauty, lifestyle, food, and fashion, offering everything from interactive brand experiences to K-food samples. It was a fantastic way to engage with Korean culture on a deeper level.

A Landmark Year for KCON

Courtesy of CJ ENM.

This year’s KCON LA was extra special for a few reasons. The event was livestreamed for the first time on Prime Video and Twitch in partnership with Amazon Music, bringing the electrifying energy to a wider audience. Amazon also used the weekend to announce a brand new K-pop playlist for their music streaming platform.

The City of Los Angeles officially recognized the festival’s cultural, social, and economic contributions by designating August 1, 2025, as “KCON Day.” According to Harry H.K. The beloved animated characters from The Amazing World of Gumball are back with a new series, The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball. The cast and creators couldn’t be more thrilled, which was very clear from speaking with them. Creator Ben Bocquelet shared his emotional experience: “It’s been an outpouring of love. It’s truly an emotional moment for me because this is the American audience, which is really the audience that made the show a success.”

Executive Producer Matt Layzell echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the connection with the fans: “It’s always a nice reminder to come to events like this, to see that, oh yeah, there are people, real people out there that watch this stuff and they love it.”

The new film Sketch blends family adventure with poignant themes, inspired by a unique childhood experience. Writer-director Seth Worley explained, “When I was a kid, my little sister got in trouble for drawing a picture of her teacher getting pelted by arrows… The counselor said, well, then I think you did the right thing. I think drawing this was a much healthier choice than actually doing it.”

Young star Bia Belle was captivated by the creatures brought to life: “I was like shocked because I guess I didn’t realize that it was going to look so lifelike. It looked like the materials that they were drawn with.”

The live-action reimagining of a classic is generating excitement, and Tia Carrere, who voiced Nani in the original and now plays Mrs. Kekoa, was overjoyed to return: “I was literally jumping up and down. I’m like, yay, yay, I’m going back to Hawaii and getting to be in this different role in this different time in my life.”

Sydney Agudong, the new Nani, spoke about recreating iconic moments: “The hammock scene in particular, because I was really daunted by it. But I was also really excited to be able to sing Aloha Oe and have that heartfelt moment with the sisters.”

For newcomer Maia Kealoha (Lilo), the experience was surreal: “It was amazing being on set. It’s also really amazing that I got to imagine that a character was there when he actually wasn’t there. That makes it much more fun.”

These interviews provided just a glimpse into the passion and creativity behind these incredible projects. The energy at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 was palpable, and the conversations with the cast and creators were full of fascinating details and touching personal stories. AJ LoCascio Interview SDCC

The energy around Marvel’s X-Men ’97 was electric, and we spoke with Isaac Robinson-Smith (the voice of Bishop) and A.J. LoCascio (the voice of Gambit) about what it’s like to step into such iconic roles. For both actors, the experience was a mix of immense responsibility and pure joy. Robinson shared how the cast—a blend of returning veterans and newcomers—came together as a unified force, all driven by a shared love for the original series. “We all kind of feel it as a unit,” he said, recalling the roar of the crowd at the premiere when the iconic theme song began. “Once the theme song started and there was cheering, I was like, okay, we got it. Like, we’re okay.”

LoCascio, who also promoted his new children’s book Spoops: the Little Spirits of Halloween, spoke about the surreal experience of going from being a fan to an integral part of the X-Men legacy. He noted that he and Robinson, along with other cast members, have a WhatsApp chain to stay in touch, proving that the camaraderie of the team extends beyond the recording booth. LoCascio’s own history as a fan, including dressing up as Gambit in college, highlights the passion that the new generation of actors brings to the show.

The conversation shifted to the big screen with legendary comic creator Paul Jenkins, the mind behind The Sentry. Jenkins, who consulted on the new Thunderbolts* film, shared his excitement about seeing his character come to life. He spoke about how the film’s creative team, including director Jake Schreier and actor Lewis Pullman, prioritized the core of the character: Bob Reynolds’ struggles with mental health. Jenkins was particularly moved by how the film captured the nuanced relationship between Bob, the heroic Sentry, and the dark, malevolent Void.

“All of us are Bob in different ways,” Jenkins reflected, highlighting the character’s relatability. He recounted a touching conversation with Pullman after the premiere, where the actor expressed a deep desire to understand the character, even asking for Jenkins’ phone number to continue the conversation. This dedication, Jenkins believes, is what made the film’s portrayal of Sentry so authentic and impactful.

Magic: The Gathering Meets the Web-Slinger

We also caught up with Mark Rosewater and Sarah Wassell from Magic: The Gathering to discuss their highly anticipated Amazing Spider-Man set. Rosewater, who grew up a massive Marvel fan, described this collaboration as a “dream job” and a chance to finally be a “subject matter expert” on a property that is “my thing.” Wassell added that the team felt a serious weight of history, knowing they had to do justice to the characters.

The team’s dedication to authenticity is evident in the art. They set a goal to have 50% of the art done by original Marvel comic artists, but they ended up hitting an astounding 70-80%. The new set also aims to bring new players into the Magic community, using the universal appeal of Spider-Man to draw in fans. Rosewater and Wassell emphasized the joy of a game that can be passed down through generations, making it a perfect fit for a character like Spider-Man, whose legacy spans decades.

The energy at San Diego Comic-Con in 2025 was electric, and one of the brightest sparks was the presence of the iconic director Rob Reiner. Known for a filmography that spans hilarious comedies to heartwarming dramas, Reiner sat down with Mama’s Geeky to discuss one of his most beloved creations and offered a tantalizing glimpse into its highly anticipated sequel.

For fans of rock and comedy, the name Spinal Tap conjures images of comically oversized amplifiers, disastrous tours, and the eternal question of whether their volume knobs truly go to eleven.

Thirty years after the original film cemented its place in cinematic history, the news of a sequel sent waves of excitement.

Rob Reiner, the man who so brilliantly captured the fictional band’s chaotic existence, was on hand at SDCC 2025 to shed light on the genesis of Spinal Tap 2, hinting at the hilarious new misadventures awaiting Derek Smalls, Nigel Tufnel, and David St. Hubbins.

Mama’s Geeky: What was it about Spinal Tap that made now the time to bring it back for a second one?

Rob Reiner: Well for years, people said do a sequel, do a sequel. We never wanted to do it. I mean, the thing, you know, it is taking a life of its own. You know, the Library of Congress put it in the National Film Registry said, please don’t touch this thing is fine. But then Harry Shearer, who, you know, plays Derek Smalls, we never had the rights and we never made any money. He sued to get the rights back. Once he got the rights back, we said, well, what do we do with this now that we got this? And we thought, well, maybe we’ll make it. And we said, no, we can’t do it. But we came up with an idea. We sat around, came up with an idea, and it turned into this.

Mama’s Geeky: Well, I can’t wait to see it. The trailer just came out. It looks amazing.

Rob Reiner: Yeah, it’s fun. It’s a lot of laughs. It looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun. It turned out good.

But that wasn’t all! In a surprising and delightful turn, Rob Reiner also reminisced about his experience working with Bruce Willis on the film The Story of Us. He shared a truly unforgettable and humorous anecdote about a snowmobiling trip with the Die Hard star. Watch the full interview with Rob Reiner to hear this crazy Bruce Willis story.
