The Great season 2 is more of the same great humor and heart, as Catherine’s story continues. Thanks to the worlds already being built out, there is a lot more to explore here.

The Great is one of the best shows on Hulu, if not the best. The perfectly timed comedy, mixed with real historical events, makes it a must watch. Not to mention the cast is absolutely incredible. Well HUZZAH, the time has come for season two and trust me when I tell you it does not disappoint.
Season 2 is more of the same great humor that fans got in season 1, as it goes on to explore Catherine’s pregnancy and the war she is waging against her husband as she tries to take over Russia. Elle Fanning absolutely crushed the role in the first season, and she does exactly that in the second as well.
Because of the fantastic character and world building that was laid out in season 1, season 2 is allowed to dive right into it, and give fans exactly what they want. Bickering between Catherine and Peter gets more and more intense as it feels obvious there is still something between them.

Speaking of, Nicolas Hoult is an absolute gem in this role. One would never think it was possible to love and hate a character so much at the same time, but yet here we are. He is naïve, yet brutal. This is, of course, all due to the way that he was raised. Lucky for viewers his childhood life and mommy issues are explored even more this season.

Elle brings a strength to Catherine that makes all women proud. She is willing to constantly stand up for what she believes is the right thing, even when her allies are putting her down. Russia might not be ready for a female ruler, but she is willing to give it her all because she loves the country and its people.

The Great season 2 is broken into ten hour long episodes but they fly by much quicker than you might think. It has its fair share of shocking moments, but the standout here is the actors.
Each and every one of the main characters, and the supporting ones as well, has their role to play this season. The individual character arcs are mostly unexpected, as everyone starts to mature, largely in part due to Catherine’s presence.

The end of The Great season 1 revealed that Catherine is indeed pregnant, but that was not going to stop her from hating her husband and vying for the throne. In fact, it gave her a leg up since she is carrying his heir. Season 1 also allowed Peter to fall in love with Catherine, despite trying very hard not to.
The problem with their relationship is because he doesn’t know how to act right. There is a lot of issues that stem from his childhood here. It gives this character an innocence that makes him seem like a young kid, even though he is an adult. Catherine has him smitten though, and he is willing to do just about anything to prove it to her.

The overall story that The Great season 2 tells is about love, perseverance, and family. Catherine has always wanted what is best for Russia, and Peter seems content leaving it just the way it is. However, because he loves her so much, he is willing to let her have a go at it.
The humor is the same sick and twisted adult humor that season 1 gave fans, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. There are several laugh out loud moments, but they don’t take away from the extremely touching moments that might even bring a tear to the eye.
These ten episodes fly by because the story is just that good. Yes, there is vulgar humor, but there is so much more to this show than that. The dialogue and costumes perfectly portray that era in time, and thanks to some amazingly talented actors, viewers will never doubt that they are watching a period piece.
Grab your favorite ale or spirit, shout HUZZAH, and settle in for a good time with The Great season 2 when it comes to Hulu.

About The Great Season 2
In season two of “The Great,” Catherine finally takes the Russian throne for her own — but if she thought coup-ing her husband was difficult, it’s nothing compared to the realities of ‘liberating’ a country that doesn’t want to be. She’ll battle her court, her team, even her own mother in a bid to bring the enlightenment to Russia.
Meanwhile she’ll also battle her heart as Peter slowly transitions from much-hated husband, to prisoner? Ally? Lover? Ultimately Catherine will learn that to change a country, you must let it change you, that there is a fine line between idealism and delusion, and that becoming ‘Great’, will ask more of her than she could have imagined.
The Great Season 2 comes to Hulu on November 19th.
