Helpsters on Apple TV+ is a great preschool age show that helps teach kids how to solve problems and that everything starts with a plan!
Helpsters is my youngest daughter’s favorite show on Apple TV+. She is constantly singing songs from the show, and telling me ways to come up with a plan to solve things when I need to. So when I got the chance to talk with Jordan Geary (Senior Director of Production and Development, Sesame Workshop) and Cody, her favorite Helpster, I just had to say yes!
And boy am I glad I did because I learned so much about this amazing show that I didn’t know already. Let me start off my saying that my girls have watched every episode of this show numerous times. While it is geared toward preschoolers, older kids can enjoy it too. My daughters are 6 and 9 and they just love watching Cody, Heart, and the rest of the gang help people out and solve problems. Which is something I feel is important for kids to understand, especially in 2020.
Helpsters Interview Favorite Moments
Above you can watch the video of my daughter getting to chat with Cody and Jordan, but we also attended a 15 minute press conference where we learned some great fun facts about Helpsters. Here are some of my favorite moments and things we learned.
Jordan, what is like working at The Sesame Workshop?
“Personally it’s a dream come true because I grew up watching Sesame Street, my kids watch Sesame Street. Professionally, it’s like working at the Harvard of kid’s TV. Every room that you go into, best and brightest is there. It’s a daily pinch me moment.” – Jordan
Cody, how did you and your friends meet and get together for Helpsters?
“The backstory to how the Helpsters got together — that’s a subject for a graphic novel some day!” – Cody
Jordan, what’s it like working with Helpsters like Cody?
“It’s fun! It’s crazy, but it’s really really fun. The thing that I like the most about working with the Helpsters is they are constantly teaching me and our family audiences that there is no problem, big or small. I personally need that reminder on a daily basis. Take a big problem and break it down into some smaller problems. Come up with a plan, work with some of your friends, and overcome it.” – Jordan
What is the best part of being a Helpster?
“The best part is that warm feeling you get when a customer says ‘Thanks for all the help Helpsters!’ and I say ‘You’re welcome!’ Because I am so proud of the work that we do and it feels so good to help people. You ever give someone the best present in the world? Well that present when you help someone is YOU!” – Cody
My absolute favorite takeaway is that Helpsters is all about helping kids overcome problems that they think are insurmountable. Which honestly, I already knew, but I love that Jordan and Cody are so passionate about it as well!
Helpsters Halloween Activity
Season Two includes Helpsters Halloween/Storyteller Sophia (Episode 4). The Helpsters were so busy that they forgot to plan for Halloween. Sophia is getting ready for the big day and needs help thinking of a scary story!
My daughters LOVE this episode and have watched it many times over. She has been begging me to make the ghost treats and so I was thrilled when Helpsters gave us the plan for them. And yes, they are just as good as they look!
