For as long as I can remember my husband has wanted a Nest Smart Thermostat. He first saw it on a TV show and immediately started research. Within just a few minutes of this, we knew that we wanted to have a connected, smart home. After even more research, we found out that the best way to do this was with the Nest Smart Thermometer and the Netgear Router (with Geek Squad Protection from Best Buy of course). With this duo we will be able to save money and energy – not to mention we will never come home to a cold house again (and living in upstate NY that is a HUGE positive!).
With the Nest Smart Thermostat my family is able to balance the temperature in our home. The Nest is cooler than we could have ever imagined because it actually senses our activity and learns your preferences. So it can auto adjust itself to know when we use the heat more and what temperatures we like. It can also be adjusted from our smartphones, tablets, or laptops (just download the free app) – so when we are on the way home on an unusually cold night, we can bump up the temperature. I use it all of the time and so does my husband. We even let our 4 year old adjust the temperature sometimes – it is that easy to use! It just connects to our existing home network and has Wi-Fi capabilities which offers a secure and reliable connection. We go on long weekend trips a lot so I love that we can set reminders to provide us with peace of mind while we are away. It monitors our equipment, sends service reminders and tells us if anything is not working correctly. I have also set up to be alerted if our home’s temperature goes above or below limits you set. After just a few days, the Nest thermostat started programming itself to the temperatures that we like! And when not at home, it was automatically switching to an energy-efficient temperature (“away” mode). My husband is a real numbers guy, so of course he loves the fact that we can review our energy history and track how much we’ve used online and with the app. And when we make an energy-saving temperature adjustment the Nest Leaf will notify you immediately – we love the real time updates and knowing just how much we are saving! In independent studies, the Nest saved an average of 10-12% on heating and 15% on cooling bills! The new 3rd generation version is thinner, sleeker in design, and allows for a bigger, crisper display than the prior 2nd generation version – and boy, do we love the look of it on our wall!
In order for our Nest Smart Thermostat to work as efficiently as we wanted it to – the Netgear Nighthawk Wireless Router DST ROuter & DST Adapter was a must have! My husband is very good at setting up these sort of things, but even if you aren’t – do not worry. It includes set up and support via phone & web so anyone can set it up quickly and correctly! You even get 1 year of Geek Squad support just in case anything goes wrong or you have any questions. This service is great because you get 24/7 help with no need to make an appointment. This is a brand new router that was exclusively developed between Netgear, an industry leader in the networking world, and Best Buy, to help provide consumers with an easy, all-in-one solution to support their home’s connected devices. With the interest in online gaming and 4k TVs, connected devices such as smart thermostats, plus the need to stream shows from Netflix or hulu, it places even more demands on the network. Many households may experience slow Wi-Fi, dropped calls, or experience “dead zones” – which could be improved upon with an “AC” router, Wi-Fi extenders and expert help. I personally love the Dead Spot Terminator which eliminates Wi-Fi dead zones. I need to be constantly connected to keep my site going and to stay connected to social media so this has come in handy. I hate dead spots and since setting this up, they have disappeared. This high-performance router supports 10+ connected devices, which is super important in this day and age! My husband and I each have a cellphone, my daughters each have LeapFrog LeapPads, and we have the home computer – not to mention our gaming devices. We love that we can run all of our devices without any interruption of service.
Speaking of our gaming devices, I was thrilled to try out Sling TV as part of this collection. It’s everything that you love about TV for a fraction of the price. We connected it to our XBOX and have never looked back. It can also be connected through your TV and video players (like Amazon TV and Roku), smartphones and tablets (select operating systems), and laptops and computers (select operating systems). With Sling TV, you can enjoy live TV from popular channels like ESPN, AMC, A&E, TNT, HGTV and more for just $20 per month. Yup, just $20. Talk about savings! Plus you can watch the latest episodes of your favorite shows and new movies on demand. Extra entertainment is available with add-on packages starting at just $5 a month and there is even HBO (additional $15 per month). My husband and I are planning on getting rid of our regular TV we like Sling TV so much. There is no need for it anymore as we can watch everything we want through Sling TV. We don’t have to worry about equipment and set-up fees and there’s no annual contract – so if it isn’t for you, just go back to your old way of watching TV (which I would be shocked to see you want to do). Simply sign up online, download the app and start watching. You can try it for free for seven days with no obligation. Best Buy is also offering a $50 off compatible device offer that is available with 3 months of prepaid Sling TV service! This offer is available in Best Buy stores only (not online) and the $50 discount is given in the form of a Best Buy store coupon.
