Family Fun at the New York State Fair

Disclosure: Mama Smith received tickets to this event from The Great New York State Fair in exchange for this post. All opinions expressed are 100% her own.

New York State Fair

We moved to upstate New York just about three years ago. My husband grew up in this area and so he already has a list of events and places that he said we needed to check out. At the top of his list was the New York State Fair. He could go on and on about everything there was to see there. From the free concerts during the day, to the fresh ice cold milk at the milk bar – it was a must see. Our first year here, our youngest was only six months old and I was still breastfeeding her – I remember being hesitant about going. We all had so much fun and I was thrilled that I decided to try it out. Our second year was a blast as well and we are all looking forward to this year. We usually go at least two or three days because there is so much to see and do there. You could easily go more than that and still have fun. One thing you have to try is the fresh milk – and the fresh cheeses. Delicious!

Eric-Church    Everclear

This year The Great New York State Fairs opens on August 27th. And boy are they coming out guns blazing – a free (FREE!!!!??!!) concert from Everclear at the Chevy Court at 2pm and then a Grandstand performance by Eric Church (who I love!) with The Cadillac Three. Some of the other shows include Rick Springfield, Jim Gaffigan (so funny!), Buckcherry, Salt N Peppa, and Nick Jonas (this one is free too!) – but there are so many more! To see the complete list click here.

Concerts are not the only thing to do there however. There are so many animals to see and competitions to watch. There are horses for riding and even a fire safety “house” where you can see what not to do (one of my daughters’ favorite things to see). And let’s not forget all the awesome vendors and amazing food. You can have just about any fried treat that you want – I had a friend Snickers bar last year, yum! My husband’s favorite thing to do is to watch the steel workers. He could stand there and do it for hours. Click here for the daily schedules of events. I guess what I am trying to say is that there is something for everyone here – and then some! The Great New York State Fair is something I look forward to every year and I cannot wait to go again. I will be attending at least one day, if not more, and I will be sharing photos and information about what was going on there, so watch for that.
