Juror #2 Review: Do Not Let This One Fly Under The Radar

Juror #2 is a thrilling courtroom drama that might be predictable but is raised to the next level by incredible performances and a thought-provoking plot.

Juror #2 review

One of the most underrated movies of 2024 is Juror #2. For some reason, it felt as if the studio, Warner Bros., had no faith in this film. It released in limited theaters and then quickly moved to the streaming service, Max, however it is easily one of the best and most intriguing movies of the year.

The story follows Justin Kemp (Nicholas Hoult), a man who ends up on a jury for a murder trial. As things quickly progress, he finds himself struggling with his morals, as it turns out he has a connection to the case. If you have seen the trailer, they give away the first twist, however, there is a lot more after that. This is very much a courtroom drama, that will have viewers on the edge of their seats through the twists and turns, and contemplating their own morals and what they might do if put in the same situation as Kemp.

Juror #2 review

Nicholas Hoult once again proves why he is one of the best actors working right now. 2024 was quite his year with Juror #2, The Order, and Nosferatu. Every one of those movies is not only fantastic, but he is exceptional in them. Because of the nature of the story told in this film, he is at the forefront of it all. Audiences are taken on a heart-pounding journey with him as he debates what to do.

In an effort not to spoil the movie, I will simply say that the stakes are high as he has a pregnant girlfriend at home, who is due any day. As he goes through the trial, which seemed at first to be an open and shut case, he starts to question things, and shares that with his fellow jury members.

review Juror No. 2

Though parts of Juror #2 are on the predictable side, that doesn’t make it any less entertaining. The ending shot is absolutely brilliant, leaving viewers to decide how they think things end up going. This is a truly thought-provoking movie that should not fly under the radar for anyone.

Clint Eastwood’s last movie is more than worth checking out. In fact, it is certainly one of the best of the year. Nicholas Hoult is chilling, yet relatable. It is easy to root for him and to understand why his character does everything that he does.

What would you do if put in the same situation he was? It is a tough choice, with lots of things to consider. Do not miss Juror #2, which is streaming on Max now.

About Juror #2

Juror #2 follows family man Justin Kemp (Nicholas Hoult) who, while serving as a juror in a high profile murder trial, finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma… one he could use to sway the jury verdict and potentially convict–or free–the accused killer.

Juror #2 is now streaming on Max.

Squid Game Season 2: Is It As Good As The First Season?

0

Just when things get REALLY good, Squid Game 2 ends on a cliffhanger, leaving it feeling like a (very) incomplete season. It’s good, but not great.

Squid Game Season 2: Is It As Good As The First Season?

Season 2 of Squid Game takes us back to the deadly games, but with a twist. This time, we know what’s going on, and so does Gi-hun, but is this a good thing or a bad thing? It ceratinly changes the dynamic of the show, that’s for sure.

The biggest issue is that just when things get really good, it ends on a massive cliffhanger. This is extremely frustrating and had me even wondering if perhaps Netflix held back the final episode of season 2 to keep spoilers from getting out. Nope.

Squid Game Season 2: Is It As Good As The First Season?

Squid Game 2 had the nearly impossible task of living up to what is basically a perfect first season. It was filled with twists and turns and we, as an audience, had very little insight into what was going on.

Now that we know, the series needed to find new ways to surprise us. Of course, there is yet another plant in the game. He also dons number 001, and if I was Gi-hun, I would have been suspicious of him from the start.

Squid Game Season 2: Is It As Good As The First Season?

There are also a number (no pun intended) of other interesting characters that join in the games. Ones you cannot help but root for and others you will instantly hate. It doesn’t take long before Gi-hun confesses he has played the games before, and tries to help out the other players.

It is not apparent whether the actual games being played are switched up to keep him on his toes, or simply because they always change them around when a new group of people are brought in. The iconic Red Light, Green Light game, however, is still the first one to be played.

There is a lot happening in the”real world” outside of the games this time around as well. This story mainly focuses around Jun-ho, who is searching for the island where the games take place so that he can put a stop to them once and for all.

There are a few surprises that surround his journey, which is interesting, however I found myself forgetting about it whenever we were in the games. So it is intriguing, but apparently not intriguing enough to hold my attention.

Squid Game season 2 was never going to be as good as season 1. It has impossibly big shoes to fill. But it definitely could be better than it is. Should be, even. There are great elements here, and it is not all bad. The first episode catches viewers up on what has been going on the last three years, while driving the story forward.

We are introduced to one of the guards outside of the game, learning about her motives behind doing the horrific things she has done. This is likely done so that we feel for her, at least a little bit, however she did not give off any remorse to me, and because of that, I found myself quickly not rooting for her at all.

Squid Game Season 2: Is It As Good As The First Season?
Squid Game S2 Choi Seung-hyun as Thanos in Squid Game S2 Cr. No Ju-han/Netflix © 2024

Thankfully the games are switched up this time around. This keeps things interesting and will keep viewers on their toes because we know what to expect, but we don’t know everything. There are enough twists and turns here to keep surprising us, however, nothing is as shocking as what we learned in season 1.

By the time the episodes truly pick up and things get really good, episode 7 ends and we are left with a massive cliffhanger. It is hard to truly review this season because it feels so incomplete. It abruptly stops, and we are left waiting for Squid Game Season 3.

Sydney Scotia Compares Being In Two Very Different Holiday Films

0

Sydney Scotia compares being a part of two very different holiday films – Our Holiday Story and It’s A Wonderful Knife – in this interview.

Sydney Scotia first gained widespread recognition for her role as Geneva Hayes in the Netflix series Some Assembly Required, and has now found herself a part of many projects. Most recently she was in Our Holiday Story, a Hallmark Christmas film.

This was not her first holiday project however, as she also starred alongside Joel McHale and Justin Long in It’s A Wonderful Knife. In this interview she discusses that project, as well as teases her upcoming film, Sawtooth Mountain.

Justin Long Improvised A Lot In It’s A Wondeful Knife

sydney scotia interview

Tessa Smith: Can you talk about being a part of two holiday films, that are so very different?

Sydney Scotia: Oh, my gosh. Yeah, It’s A Wondeful Knife was one of those onset moments where you show up prepared and then you just, it’s not at all what you expected, because sometimes you don’t know the tone going in, especially when there’s no precedent. There’s no movies to follow. I watched the director’s movies beforehand, but it was a completely different genre almost.

So it was a really fun experience working with Justin Long and Joel McHale. Also, because Justin Long just improv’d so much, there’s not a lot of improv when you’re in a TV movie like this,  but he gave so much room for everybody to play. He really set the tone and it was this Christmas camp horror.

It's A Wonderful Knife movie review

And so from there, once we all got on set and started working with Justin, it was like, OK, I know what we’re doing and I’m just going to go for it. One of my favorite moments in that movie is when I have like a knife or ax or something and she whacks me with a Christmas present.

I was like, this is crazy. It is amazing. It is like the most wild Christmas movie, and that’s thanks to Michael Kennedy’s writing.

Sydney Scotia’s Teases Sawtooth Mountain

Sydney Scotia's Teases Sawtooth Mountain

Tessa Smith: What can you tease about your upcoming film Sawtooth Mountain?

Sydney Scotia: Sawtooth Mountain is a thriller suspense horror film. We just wrapped it in Vancouver, B.C., and it is a Bigfoot themed movie. Three law students who go away for the weekend and run into trouble with some some elements in the woods. That’s what I can tease right now.

We just wrapped and I’m so excited about it because it really just was one of those experiences where I felt like I got to be part of it from a very early stage, and I was so grateful to have been brought on.

Be sure to watch the full interview with Sydney Scotia to learn about her favorite holiday traditions and what it was like working on Our Holiday Story.

Babygirl Review: Sexy, But Also Delivers A Powerful Message

0

Babygirl features a phenomenal performance from Nicole Kidman, as well as a powerful message. But don’t go see it with your parents.

Babygirl movie review

You have never seen Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson like this. As the trailer suggests, Babygirl is sexy and provocative. Kidman finds herself captivated by a young intern at work, and because she has been repressing her sexual desires with her husband, she ends up in a twisted, secret relationship.

This movie might not officially be rated “not safe for work”, you definitely do not want to go see it with someone you will feel uncomfortable next to during sex scenes, submissive role play sequences, nudity, and loud orgasms. That said, Babygirl does deliver an interesting message about being open with your partner about what you want sexually, and what feels good to you. It teaches the importance of being honest with your lover, and how that can make or break a relationship.

Babygirl movie review

Antonio Banderas, who plays Kidman’s husband, might not be Babygirl very often, but when he does, he leaves an impact. It is impossible not to feel bad for him. It is clear how much he loves his wife. How much he desires her. And how much he wants to make her happy. There are some truly powerful scenes in which he allows himself to be raw and vulnerable, and Babygirl is all the better for it.

Nicole Kidman delivers one of the best performances of her career – which certainly says a lot. She embraces this role, fully giving herself over to it. There are several scenes where she is meant to be uncomfortable in the situation she is in, and you can feel that tension from the screen. It bleeds through to the audience, and many viewers will likely feel awkward, yet intrigued, as well.

Her chemistry with Harris Dickinson could be cut with a knife. These two such a wonderful job playing their respective parts of a cat and mouse tale that I cannot imagine their real life partners not getting at least a little jealous. This is one of those movies where you almost feel as if you are watching something you should not be watching. That us, as an audience, are being let in on a secret we should know nothing about. That helps to raise the tension in the film, as well.

Babygirl movie review

Babygirl is very well written and offers up dialogue that will have audiences feeling emotionally connected to the characters. Yes, this movie is sexy. But it is more than that. There is a deep exploration of desire and kinks, but also meaningful themes of love, as well.

There is a lot happening here – but in a good way. With the wrong lead actors, Babygirl doesn’t work. Without Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson, there is a chance this movie comes off more as something you should watch at home, in your bedroom. But because they fully give themselves over to the roles, they add in the heart and emotion that make Babygirl a great movie.

See for yourself when A24’s Babygirl hits theaters on Christmas Day. Just don’t go with your parents.

Superman Cast & James Gunn Reveal Their Reaction To The Suit

0

During the Superman teaser trailer event, the cast and writer/director James Gunn discuss creating David Corenswet’s Superman suit, and their reactions to it.

Superman suit David Corenswet

One of the most important things when creating a “comic book movie” is the suit. Say what you will, this is something the fans are going to latch on to, for good or for bad. Of course, the story must also be great, but making sure the suits look like they should is top of the list.

I was invited to a special event for the Superman teaser trailer, which included a Q&A session with James Gunn (writer/director), David Corenswet (Clark Kent / Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), and Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luther).

One of the topics that came up was David Corenswet’s Superman suit. He explained how he never really put the suit on for the first time because it was built through a lengthy process. Writer/director James Gunn weighs in and reveals what Corenswet said to make him change his mind about this version of the suit being so colorful. Nicholas Hoult also confesses his reaction to seeing Corenswet in the suit on set.

Cast & Filmmaker Reactions To Superman’s Suit

David Corenswet: People ask about the first time you put on the suit. When you have the amazing chance to build the suit from the ground up with an amazing costume department, you don’t put on the suit for the first time. You put on parts of it and then it gets fitted and more pieces get put in.

So for me, it was the first time that other people saw me in the suit. It’s like when you get a nice haircut and you forget about it but then you walk around and everybody’s like, whoa you look great for once. I walked on set and I had other people who saw me in the suit for the first time. So I got to see other people see Superman.

I didn’t feel like Superman, but it was so amazing watching my cast mates and the crew members, who are also getting to work on this amazing historic piece of media. The moments when they saw it for the first time or when they saw Superman fly for the first time, getting to witness them witness it.

The best thing is seeing kids see it. When people would bring their kids to set. Getting to see, first person, five, six-year-old kids see Superman. There’s nothing like it. It’s amazing.

Superman 2025

Nicholas Hoult: When I saw David in the costume, and I hate to admit it, it made me feel warm and fuzzy. Like a kid again. There was one scene where he flies into the set and I was watching and I had a little grin, a little private grin on my face, and I was like this is amazing. I turned around and I saw everyone else in the room with the same look on their face watching him. That’s the effect that he’s talking about, and it’s really special.

James Gunn: The thing that I think of so much is when we were designing the costume, I knew certain things were going to be different and I knew that I didn’t want to have it look like a wet t-shirt. I didn’t want to have a bunch of thick muscles in it. I didn’t want to have airbrushed abs on it. But it was really a long process of development.

We were standing in the room and it was freaking colorful and had the underwear and the whole thing and I was like, ugh, I don’t know. I said it’s so colorful and [David Corenswet] goes, yeah, he’s an alien from outer space who’s super powerful. He doesn’t want children to be afraid of him. And it touched me in the moment and it touches me now as I say it, is that is who he is and that’s where the costume comes from and that goes along with Jerry and Joe’s original vision hardening back to wrestlers and the circus and these other things.

That’s who Superman is. His costume is so colorful because he doesn’t want to scare children. He’s got red beams that come out of his eyes and he can blow over things with his breath.

See the suit in action for yourself when Superman comes to theaters on July 11, 2025.

Rachel Brosnahan: Superman & Lois “Work Hard, Play Hard, & Love Hard”

0

Rachel Brosnahan confesses that Superman and Lois are soulmates and that they both work hard, play hard, and love hard.

Superman 2025

Lois Lane and Superman will always be connected in the DC Universe, just as MJ and Spider-Man are. In James Gunn’s upcoming Superman, the extremely talented Rachel Brosnahan portrays Lois Lane. In the recently released teaser trailer, we see that her and Superman have a relationship, and even catch a glimpse at a kiss while floating in the air (their equivalent of Spidey’s upsidedown kiss).

I was invited to a special event for the Superman teaser trailer, which included a Q&A session with James Gunn (writer/director), David Corenswet (Clark Kent / Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), and Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luther).

Rachel Brosnahan admittedly cannot say much about Lois Lane’s relationship with Clark Kent/Superman, but she does confess that she thinks they are soulmates, and that they both have the same goals in mind.

Rachel Brosnahan Says Superman & Lois Are “Soulmates”

Superman suit David Corenswet

Rachel Brosnahan: They’re soulmates. They’re united in the fact that they are both in the relentless pursuit of truth and justice, but they approach the world in totally different ways.

She’s somebody, because of her profession but also because of who she is, she questions everything. She questions everyone. She’s trying to see around every corner and that’s the way that she faces the world.

And Superman is just radically present in every moment. He solves every issue that’s directly in front of him. I think the ways that they are opposite is something that is fun to watch. It’s fun to watch them bump up against each other sometimes…in more than one way. And then it’s fun to watch the way in which they really are united. That’s a little bit of a nothing burger of an answer but they both work hard and play hard and love hard.

James Gunn: “Superman Is About Kindness”

0

During the Superman teaser trailer event, writer/director and DC CEO James Gunn explains that the 2025 film is about kindness.

Superman 2025

I was invited to a special event for the Superman teaser trailer, which included a Q&A session with James Gunn (writer/director), David Corenswet (Clark Kent / Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), and Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luther). Gunn described the film as being about kindness and how everyone should be just that, kind.

Even if we do not agree with others, there is no need to be mean to them. This is something that the world could certainly use more of these days.

James Gunn Says Superman Is “A Movie About Being Good”

Superman suit David Corenswet

I think that it is a movie about kindness. It is a movie about being good. I remember talking to these guys when we had our cast dinner the night before we started shooting, and I’m like, at the end of the day, the world doesn’t always seem to have so much good in it. And this movie has to truly be that. And for it to truly be that means that we had to be good to each other, we had to be good to the crew, and then it had to be that authentically. So for me, the movie is about that more than anything else.

I think that’s what “taking me home” is all about. When I watched the trailer and the movie, we do have a battered version of Superman at the beginning. I think that that is our country. I believe in the goodness of human beings and I believe that most people in this country, despite their ideological beliefs and their politics, are doing their best to get by and trying to be good people.

Despite what it may seem like for the other side, no matter what that other side might be. I think this movie is about that. It’s about the basic kindness of human beings. And that can be seen as uncool, and it can be seen as under siege when some of the darker voices are some of the louder voices. That’s what happens when you let the internet seem like it’s the world, when it’s not the world, the world is us.

I live in a very rural part of Georgia and I see the kindness and the beauty of the people every day who don’t share all the same political beliefs as I do. But I think that’s what the movie is about, the basic fundamentals of human beings all over the world.

James Gunn Confesses Superman’s Relationship With Krypto Is “Complicated”

0

At the Superman teaser trailer event, James Gunn reveals that Superman’s relationship with Krypto is “complicated.”

Superman 2025 - Superman & Kryptp

The opening sequence of the Superman teaser trailer shows Superman falling from the sky, clearly having been beaten up during a fight. He is battered, bruised, and beaten, mustering all the energy he can to whistle for man’s best friend, his dog Krypto. He then asks Krypto to take him home and hands him a piece of his cape to pull him by.

I was invited to a special event for the Superman teaser trailer, which included a Q&A session with James Gunn (writer/director), David Corenswet (Clark Kent / Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), and Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luther).

Superman’s Relationship With Krypto Is “Complicated”

When asked about the decision to open the teaser trailer with this shot, Gunn explains “We’re seeing a little bit of a different side of Superman than what we’ve seen normally on screen and this movie, at the end of the day, is not about power.”

He goes on to detail that Clark Kent is a person who is struggling with his day-to-day life, something that Gunn thought would be a cool place to start. In terms of his superdog, however, Gunn says “his relationship with Krypto is complicated. He’s not nearly the best dog you’ve seen. There’s a lot more to Krypto.”

As a dog lover, this is a tough sentence to swallow. Krypto is a dog with superpowers. He can fly. Surely, that would make his relationship with Clark different from any other pet-owner relationship, but I would be devastated to see him turn his back on Superman. We all go to our animals for comfort. They are a part of the family and are always there when we need them most.

Gunn continues, “I also thought that it was a way to say that yes, we’re embracing all of the Superman mythology. There’s a way that superhero movies have taken these characters and said okay, yeah, it’s Batman but it’s not any of the other stuff. It’s Superman but it’s not any of the other stuff. It’s boom, boom, boom, boom.”

“But he lives in a world with superheroes. This is an alternative history fantasy world where superheroes exist but it’s also incredibly grounded. It’s about real people having real lives who just happen to be metahumans. Superman exists. He has friends who are other superheroes. He has people he doesn’t get along as well with who are other superheroes. He’s got a flying dog.”

All will be revealed about Superman and Krypto’s relationship when Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025. I was already excited, but the new teaser trailer has me all in.

Nicholas Hoult “Felt Giddy” Reading The Superman Script

Nicholas Hoult confesses his reaction when he first read the Superman script and it is priceless – “I felt giddy.”

Superman 2025

Nicholas Hoult is going to make the perfect Lex Luther. We only see him a few times in the Superman teaser trailer, but take a look back at his career and it is apparent that he commits to a role when given it. Just in the last few months, he has delivered three masterful performances in The Order, Juror No. 2, and Nosferatu.

I was invited to a special event for the Superman teaser trailer, which included a Q&A session with James Gunn (writer/director), David Corenswet (Clark Kent / Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), and Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luther).

During the event, Nicholas Hoult reflected back on when he first read the script for Superman. Writer/director James Gunn is also a master of his art, so it should come as no surprise that Hoult claims he “felt giddy.”

Nicholas Hoult’s Reaction To First Reading The Superman Script Is Priceless

Nicholas Hoult: The script to begin with was so unique and fun. The world was vivid and just full of so many exciting characters, moments, and emotions. Reading it I felt giddy. I was like this is exciting, this is new and a different take. Then, on set with all of James Gunn’s collaborators, he’s inviting and warm. He knows exactly what he wants and is clear on that, but also is open to ideas with everyone. It’s a wonderful environment to work in because no matter who you, are if you bring a good idea and James likes it, then it will be incorporated.
