Lee Majdoub teases a dark future for Agent Stone after losing his mentor in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. He also says watching Jim Carrey work is “impressive.”

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is coming home digitally on January 21st. To celebrate, we spoke with Lee Majdoub, who has gotten to work extremely close with Jim Carrey throughout these films. He says that it is always impressive watching him work, but especially in Sonic 3 because Carrey plays two different characters that interact quite often.

Majdoub details where he thinks his character, Agent Stone, goes after losing Robotnik, someone that he loves and respects. He feels that Stone will become “villainous” and will not handle Ivo’s death well.

Tessa Smith: You have gotten to work closely with Jim Carrey on the Sonic films, but he really goes above and beyond in Sonic 3, playing two characters.

Lee Majdoub: He’s fantastic. And to see it in the moment was incredible because, what I didn’t realize, and I mean, it made sense, is that we’d be shooting the Ivo part of a scene one day, and then we would come back another day to shoot the Gerald stuff. And it never occurred to me that, not only does Jim have to know and be open to what he’s going to do as Ivo, but he also had all these ideas around what he was going to do as Gerald so he knew how to feed off of what he was going to do.

And we had a great double for him, too. His name was Brendan. He was incredible, and he and Jim worked really well together. Jim was able to guide Brendan along, too, and be like, no, no, no, this is what I’m going to do. Try it this way. So all I had to do was be like, how am I going to react to Gerald on the Gerald day and he has to think insanely ahead.

Lee Majdoub Details Where He Thinks Agent Stone Goes From Here… Without Robotnik

Tessa Smith: Where do you think Stone goes from here? I imagine he will be so devastated over losing Ivo.

Lee Majdoub: Yeah. I think he’s absolutely devastated. It’s tough because I don’t know where we’re going from here. Personally, I can’t imagine Stone deals with his grief in a healthy way. I would think that we would see a little bit more villainy potentially. I think the lessons that we learn in Sonic 3, I don’t think would pertain to Stone. You know what I mean? So would he go back to making coffee? Maybe? Would it be angry coffee? Probably. Would it then stem to something else? Would he then be like, you know what? I’m over this. I can’t do coffee anymore. I have to do something.
