Fans prayers have been answered, as Ryan Reynolds confirms Hugh Jackman will return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3.
Ryan Reynolds just casually confirmed that Hugh Jackman will return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, which will release to theaters on September 6th, 2024.
In a video posted to twitter, Reynolds says that he knows Deadpool’s first appearance in the MCU needs to be perfect. It needs to be epic. But he then confesses that he has no good ideas.
Until Hugh Jackman casually walks behind him chomping on an apple and he asks him if he would like to return as Wolverine. Jackman’s response? Sure.

What follows is a logo of Deadpool being slashed by Wolverine claws — and a date reveal. That’s right, Deadpool 3 will release on September 6, 2024 and it is confirmed it will co-star Hugh Jackman, who will be reprising his role as Wolverine.
Hugh Jackman first played the role of Wolverine in X-Men (2000), and has since portrayed Logan many times. Ryan Reynolds’ first appearance as Deadpool is heavily criticized. In the tweet which reveals his Deadpool 3 plans, he even alludes to why — mentioning it was hard to keep his mouth sewn shut about the news. This is in reference to the first on screen version of the Merc with a Mouth having his mouth sewed up in order to keep him from cracking wise jokes — which is exactly what he is known for.
How Can Hugh Jackman Come Back As Wolverine If He Died In Logan?
In Logan (2017), Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine died. This was the perfect ending for this character and some fans might be upset about his return because of this. It could take away the impact that death had. However, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has proven that variants are out there, the multiverse is open, which means the possibilities are endless.
This could mean that the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine will be in the form of a variant. But as of now, this is all speculation.
Because Logan is set in the future, it is also possible that this film will take place between the X-Men movies and Logan, in regards to the timeline.
There is not much more news than the fact that Hugh Jackman will return as fan favorite Wolverine in Deadpool 3. Will he be a main character or just a small cameo? Only time will tell. But for now, it is time to rejoice. Let the fan theories begin!
