Guardians of the Galaxy first time watch movie review — I haven’t jammed out this hard to a movie soundtrack since who knows when.
I’ve Never Seen Guardians of the Galaxy Before
It’s been a while since my last first-time watch, but I’m back and with a very fun one. While we love our Avengers pals, it was time to let them get a bit of a break and introduce ourselves to the coolest, and maybe strangest, group of guardians floating around in space. I’ve heard good things about “Guardians of the Galaxy,” and it really didn’t disappoint.
Here’s what I thought:
1. I know how much you’ve all missed my silly MCU commentary, but the wait is over! I have high hopes for this movie: I’ve heard good things about the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies – not so much about the director – so I’m looking forward to this first-time watch.
2. OK, I love the music choice already. I’m a sucker for 1980s music.
3. I was not ready to be destroyed emotionally within the first few minutes of this movie. What the heck, Marvel???
4. Big shiny, scary, floating things!
5. “Featuring Vin Diesel as Groot” – words I’ve been waiting to see my whole life.
6. AND we get Glenn Close in this?! This is about to be a cinematic treat.
7. Don’t you wish you had a tool that lets you see things that happened in the past? That would really come in handy when you lose your keys.
8. I can’t get over how much they’re hitting it out of the park with the soundtrack.
9. Yet another blue glowing object that everyone wants to get their hands on in this movie. I see a trend in the MCU.
10. I know for a fact my Dramamine would not help me during this train-wreck spaceship flight.
11. I love that Michael Rooker (who plays Yondu) always plays a character who is so angry and at level 100 at all times.
12. That man is assaulting society with that haircut.
13. Ahhh Stan Lee sighting!
14. I can’t believe that’s Bradley Cooper voicing Rocket. It doesn’t sound like him at all!
15. Well I already love Gamora for that dropkick.
16. That was a pretty fun catch-the-orb scene.
17. Glenn Close can rock any hairstyle and you can quote me on that.
18. “What a bunch of a-holes.” Maybe the best line we’ll get in the movie?
19. Leave the headphones and cassette player alone and nobody gets hurt!
20. Actually leave Gamora alone and nobody gets hurt!!
21. My nose and brain are hurting just thinking about what Groot did to that guy.
22. Awww big prison cuddle session!
23. I don’t know, you know, I have a bad feeling about this Thanos guy. I hope things don’t make him…snap…in the next few movies.
24. I can’t wait to see how Rocket’s plan comes to life, which somehow includes a man’s prosthetic leg.
25. Good job, Groot!
26. Drax is a literal machine taking down these guards.
27. Truly obsessed with the Gamora kicks.
28. Rocket: King of not knowing what raccoons are, turning off artificial gravity and not needing prosthetic legs for his plans.
29. This just in: somebody did get hurt for not leaving the headphones and cassette player alone.
30. “I am not a princess!” OK, I think Drax just got the best line of the movie.
31. I never thought Kevin Bacon, “Footloose” and hero would be used in the same sentence.
32. Stop fighting tree man and tank man!
33. Oh my god Benicio Del Toro looks fabulous.
34. I think it’s safe to say the purple Infinity Stone exchange did not work out so well.
35. I need someone to explain to me how Gamora and Nebula are siblings, and how Thanos is their dad. How do those genetics work out? Anyone?
36. I really didn’t need to see what Peter/Chris Pratt looks like floating in space without a helmet on. That is nightmare fuel.
37. You’re telling me there’s no damage done to them after floating outside in space without any protective gear? That’s the most unrealistic thing in this movie!
38. “You’re! Making! Me! Beat! Up! Grass!!”
39. Everyone is power hungry for this Infinity Stone.
40. Awww the misfits are teaming up together! Cute!!
41. Alright this seems like a totally solid plan where nothing will go wrong. Right?
42. The VFX has been great so far, but the battle scenes look so much cooler and better. I know where the bulk of the budget went toward.
43. Drax is such a teddy bear now I love it.
44. BIG EXPLOSION!!!!
45. How Gamora can offer her hand to Nebula after all the times her sister has tried to kill her is unbelievable.
46. Don’t you dare hurt our friend Drax!
47. Am I really about to sob my eyes out after hearing “We are Groot”? Yes, I think I am.
48. I think I would drop dead if someone just started doing a dance off in front of me.
49. “You said it yourself, bitch. We’re the Guardians of the Galaxy.” MIC DROP.
50. The old switcheroo! Good job, Peter.
51. Awww the little Groot plant pot! About to sob again!
52. The group has no chill when it comes to trying to wrap their head around being good, law abiding citizens.
53. Haha the Troll doll. Sorry, Yondu!
54. Baby Groot waking up and stretching!! FULL BLOWN SOBBING!
55. His dancing!! I cannot!!!!
Overall Thoughts on Guardians of the Galaxy
First and foremost, I haven’t jammed out this hard to a movie soundtrack since who knows when. This movie basically hooked me in from the first song, and it really didn’t let up until the end. I’m glad a whole new group of characters was introduced in this film because seeing the same Avengers over and over again – even though I do enjoy many of them – was getting a bit stale.
This interesting mix of characters, from Star Lord to Gamora to fan favorite Groot, each have distinct personality traits and quirks that make the movie even more fun to watch and help it stand out from some of the other Marvel films.
Many of the Avengers characters have, more or less, the same personalities, so it was a treat to see this wacky and dysfunctional group come together. The story and plot itself are very similar to a lot of the other MCU films I’ve seen, but, again, this wonderfully assembled group makes it enjoyable and entertaining from start to finish.
I’m already looking forward to “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.”
Rating: 4 out of 5
