Love, Victor season 2 is not afraid to dive into more heavy topics, while continuing on with Benji & Victor’s relationship.
Love, Victor season 2 picks up right where the first season ended and then dives headfirst into a lot of heavy topics. Not only does the season deal with the aftermath of Victor coming out, and his ever evolving relationship with Benji, it is not afraid to tackle several important topics.
The final episode of season 1 showed Victor’s parents taking a break, and Victor coming out to his family. Season 2 picks up right after that, with the first episode focusing on the summer before Junior year. While the topics of these teen dramedy do spend a lot of time with Benji and Victor and their relationship, it also is not afraid to shy away from deeper topics.
Without giving spoilers there is a lot to digest in season 2 including mental illness, addiction, separation, race, sex, and even miscarriage. All of which are very important topics, and conversations around them should be normalized. Love, Victor should be applauded for including them in a show that many teens will watch, as they are topics that extremely important for them to hear about.
Love, Victor season one spent a lot of time exploring Victor’s journey, and yes, season two does this as well, however his friends and family members are going through a lot of struggles as well. Each episode focuses on one topic, but the whole season comes together very cohesively, ending in a way that will have fans begging for a season three.
There is a whole lot to love about season two. One thing that should be mentioned is that they flipped the norm with the way Victor’s parents react. His mother is the one struggling, when often it is the other way away in shows and films like this. Victor’s father even attends a support group for parents of LGBTQ+ kids — and Josh Duhamel, Simon’s father in Love, Simon, makes a guest appearance at one of the meetings!
Benji and Victor are not the only ones that go through changes and challenges in this season. Lake and Felix have to deal with his mother’s manic depression, and of course Victor’s parents deal with their separation. Mia is also going through a lot, as well.
Love, Victor season 2 covers a lot of hard topics in depth, ones that are very important for those who are watching this show. It is a great dramedy, and has its fun moments, but there are a lot of moments that will have viewers in tears too — feeling for all of the characters involved.
