The Legend Of Vox Machina season 2 wraps up this week with 3 incredible past paced, action packed episodes, but leaves fans with quite a cliffhanger.

The Legend Of Vox Machina Season 2 review

The Legend Of Vox Machina season 2 episode 9 ended with Grog confronting his Uncle, clearly about to challenge him for the herd. With the final three of the season having released today, we get what feels like a cohesive story of the season, while also leaving a whole lot of unanswered questions that will hopefully be addressed in The Legend of Vox Machina season 3 (which we know is coming!).

Warning: Spoilers for The Legend of Vox Machina season 2 week 4.

The Legend Of Vox Machina Season 2 review

The Legend Of Vox Machina Season 2
    Episode 10: The Killbox

The Legend Of Vox Machina season 2 episode 10 is easily one of the most emotional this season. Grog takes on his Uncle for control of the herd, even with his weakened body. He never gives up and when Scanlan and Pike are taken prisoner and threatened, he finally realizes where his strength comes from — his friends. As he says this is Uncle Kevdak laughs, knowing that they have Pike and Scanlan pinned, but Grog smiles and says he has more.

This is when the rest of Vox Machina arrive, just in time to join the fight. And what a fight it is. When Grog discovers that it is his friends that give him strength, he gains his muscles back. The battle is action packed and delivers a whole lot of blood and gore. However, the coolest part is definitely when Vex frees Trinket from her amulet to make room for Grog. She then releases him from the air and he crashes down onto Kevdak, killing him.

Grog becomes leader of the herd, and gains control of the Knuckles. However, it is not what he wants and he names his cousin, who was in shackles for talking back to his father, as leader. Grog asks him if they want to help Vox Machina kill a dragon, revealing that they will team up to take Umbrasyl on.

During the celebration of the defeat of Kevdak, the gnomish bard Kaylie performs a song with Scanlan. When she invites him to accompany her to his bedroom, he of course agrees — much to the dismay of Pike. As she ties him to the bed, she reveals that he is her father, and that she wants revenge on Scanlan for abandoning her mother.

Episode 11: Belly of the Beast

There is a lot to take in this episode. Even though there is not a lot of action, there are some big reveals that have a greater impact on Vox Machina as a whole. This is a character development episode, and yet it is one of the best.

We see Scanlan talking with Kaylie, as he tries to explain that he would like to be in her life. However, he cannot even name her mother as he has had many conquests. Ultimately Kaylie decides that killing him would be giving him the easy way out, and she leaves instead. But not before making him feel horrible, and forcing him to recollect on his life and the choices he has made.

Percy spends a great deal of the day explaining his plan to Grog and the rest of the herd, who are clearly completely lost as he goes into a lot of detail. During this speech, Vax sneaks off, only to be followed by Keyleth and Vex. He wants to uncover the truth about his pact with the Matron of Ravens, and learn what he owes her.

Vax takes the plunge into a pool of blood and learns that he is her champion and is there to usher those into their afterlife when they die. He learns of fate and truly ends up believing in it, before making his way back to the rest of the group with Keyleth and Vex, ready to take on Umbrasyl.

When the dragon arrives for the town’s offerings, he senses that there is a trap. He doesn’t trip it but Vex uses her bow to set it off and the dragon is held to the ground by a massive device. Vox Machina and the herd attack, but it does not take long for Umbrasyl to free himself. Scanlan comes up with a plan to get inside the dragon by entering his rear with Scanlan’s hand, and he does so with Vex.

Scanlan leaves the sword that will not move, that Kaylie trapped him with in the bed, inside of Umbrasyl so that when he tries to fly away, it will cut him. At first he does not want to leave but he eventually fights through the pain and does — taking off with Scanlan and Vax still inside of him. Grog throws his axe with a rope attached and it digs into the dragon’s skin. The episode ends with him trailing behind him in the sky.

    Episode 12: The Hope Devourer

The finale of The Legend Of Vox Machina season 2 delivers a lot of action, a ton of emotion, and a massive cliffhanger. The episode starts with a dream of Scanlan’s. He is telling his grandchildren the story of how Vox Machina (but mostly him) beat the Chroma Conclave. Vax’s screams finally get to him though, and he wakes up, inside the stomach of Umbrasyl.

The dragon is doing the best he can to knock Grog off of him, and at the same time is sloshing around the acid inside of him, which is getting closer and closer to Vax and Scanlan. Pike and Percy are riding Keyleth, who has turned into her bird form, and Vex is alongside them on her broom.

Grog is ultimately knocked off of Umbrasyl’s back and although they are trying to get to him as fast as they can, he is too far for Keyleth to catch him. Grog thinks fast and uses the Knuckles to make himself bigger and stronger. While he does survive the impact of hitting the ground, he is pretty beat up. Pike is able to heal him for the most part, but runs out of magic leaving him with a broken leg.

In order to exit Umbrasyl, Vax makes the hole that was left by the sword bigger, and then go through, using Scanlan’s hand to descend towards the ground. However, Scanlan is knocked out and his magic disappears. The two hurtle towards the ground but then Vax calls to the Matron and she gives him wings that grow out of his armor. Yeah, he looks really freaking cool. He catches Scanlan and lands safely on the ground with the rest of Vox Machina.

The team decides that even though they are injured, now is the time to confront Umbrasyl because he is injured too. They make it to his cave but Umbrasyl has already healed himself. A massive battle ensues starting with just Vax, but eventually everyone joins — except Scanlan. He does not think there is anyway that they can beat the powerful dragon.

As his daughter Kaylie’s words echo in his head, about the fact that he has a lot to make up for, and he hears the screams of his friends, he musters the courage to run in and attack. Meanwhile, Umbrasyl has taken control of all the vestiges.

Scanlan uses his distraction to take back one though — the sword. He stabs the dragon in the eye, killing him. Umbrasyl collapses on Scanlan and it seems like he is dead. Pike cries over him before he reveals that he is just fine.

Vox Machina celebrates their win and goes back to Whitestone. Percy’s sister raises a toast to them as they have a renewed hope that they can take on the rest of the Chroma Conclave. When everyone around them starts to pass out, Yennen reveals that she is in fact a dragon, Raishan, that has taken her form.

She wants to speak with Vox Machina as she feels that Thordak is out of control. She states that he has a plan for something bigger, and she doesn’t want any part in it. Before The Legend Of Vox Machina season 2 ends, Thordak is seen talking about the emergence, and is looking over a collection of dragon eggs.
