With Moon Knight episode 4 coming out tonight there are a lot of different paths this show could go down. Here are our theories. Warning MASSIVE SPOILERS for the first 3 episodes of Moon Knight.
We ended Moon Knight episode 3 with Mr. Knight and Khonshu reverting the sky to how it was 2,000 years ago — but just before that there was an interesting scene with Marc and Layla where they talk about past secrets. In the fight a few minutes before, Harrow mentioned that there are secrets Marc is keeping from Layla, specifically about her dad. It can be assumed that episode 4 will reveal these secrets, and the details of Layla’s father’s death.
I believe that Marc and Layla’s dad were on the archeological site together when they all “died” but Khonushu saved Marc. Marvel could make Marc more responsible for his death, by showing that he had the chance to save her dad, but for some reason didn’t.
At the very end of the third episode, Khonshu is fading away. Since Moon Knight’s fighting and healing abilities come from Khonshu, and he is now imprisoned, that means that he doesn’t have an avatar. This, along with Steven fainting at the end of the episode, show that there will be a change in the strength overall of this character for now.
I think this leads into something we saw in the trailers — Marc/Steven in a mental institute / hospital — quite possibly because he dies. You heard that right — I think Marc / Steven will die in Moon Knight Episode 4. Many early reviews have said that the end of the episode is insane and “killing off” Marc / Steven would be just that. Now how would he come back to life? Layla could release Khonshu, bringing Marc / Steven back to life just like what happened when he first became Khnoshu’s avatar.
The final words that Khonshu says as he is fading away is, “When the gods imprison me, tell Marc to free me”. Going forward I believe there will be some sort of rescue attempt to get Khonshu back. Now that they know where Ammit is, I assume they will be journeying there in episode 4. This could give us more of an ‘Indiana Jones’ feel — just like the episodes before — and allow for more of the Egyptian lore to be explored.
Either way, Moon Knight episode 4 is bound to be awesome! There are so many possibilities and I can’t wait to see what path it goes down!
