Moon Knight episode 3 is here and it was full of great story, actions, and emotion. Here’s our recap and review with SPOILERS.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR MOON KNIGHT EPISODE 3
“The Friendly Type”
We start off this episode learning a little more about Layla, about her familial issues and just a basic reading on her life. Then we have a pretty fast cut to an action sequence with Marc Spectre and this was easily one of my favorite moments of the episode. In this fight Marc faces off against a few goons and ends up killing most of them but he nor Steven were the ones that killed them — or so they say. I think this is a not so subtle tease to Jake Lockley, another one of Moon Knight’s personalities.
Before moving forward with the story I have to point out the pacing and how jam-packed this episode was. It felt like there was a new setting or massive information given out every few minutes. All of these huge pieces and revelations all led to the ‘treasure hunt’ style of story. This became way more apparent with Khonshu making the world night and then putting Arthur Harrow on trial. We are then introduced to the avatars of different gods on the council, this was weird to me because at first it felt like weird world building tactics but after a certain point I was so distracted by Oscar Isaacs perfect performance that I didn’t care for anything else.

Finally Layla and Marc meet up again and in the 4 minutes of time with just Layla and Marc it feels like we learned so much about their relationship and why/what made everything go downhill. What is so great about this show in my opinion is that every single minute is used to its full capacity. Even in slower moments the filmmaking allows for a great story and character exposition.
This all leads to Layla and Marc looking for the sarcophagus. Before getting into too much detail, it is worth to note that there is a quick mention of Madripoor which is where an episode of Captain America and the Winter Soldier and a few scenes from Shang-Chi took place. That aside, Arthur Harrow shows back up and we learn just a little more about Layla, that he father died and it has caused her a lot of pain. After this he specifically says “Your husband doesn’t tell you the truth”. I think this means that one of the Moon Knight personalities killed Layla’s father. It could be Jake Lockley as Marc and Steven aren’t put out to be that brutal in the show thus far.
And this is where the episode takes it up a notch, the big action scene starts with Moon Knight jumping from above and this fight is absolutely fantastic. There aren’t many specifics that I can breakdown in the fight but some of the things I loved were the bullet holes in Moon Knight’s cape, Layla’s inclusion in the fight, and of course, the way they switched back and forth between Mr. Knight and Moon Knight.
I think this fight told us a lot about how they will use Mr. Knight in the future. 2 main personalities for now (Marc and Steven) and they each have “hero” counterparts, Moon Knight and Mr. Knight. Over time Steven will become smarter and take over the detective aspect just as Mr. Knight does in the comics.

Now we get to the closing of the episode where Marc and Layla are putting together the constellation pieces from the sarcophagus, Layla says they need Steven so he can put together the pieces quickly. This is just another moment where Oscar Issac shows of his insane acting skills by switching characters within a second, from Marc to Steven.
After this they find out that they have to change the night sky back to how it was the way it was 2000 years ago on the same night as the map. Khonshu knew that if he did this he would be banished by the god and set in stone. Taking this risk, Mr. Knight helps Khonshu turn back the sky and the episode ends with Khonshu turning to stone and it looks like Steven is either drained of his moon abilities or just super worn out from what he just did.
This episode ended super well and set up this even bigger scale treasure hunt for the final 3 episodes that I can’t wait for.
