Here is a collection of some family friendly activities that you can do to pass the time while staying home to slow the spread.
It is very important to me that my family stay safe and healthy this winter, and I want you and yours to as well! But I also totally understand that things can get redundant and boring while at home, which is why I am sharing this list of family friendly activities to do at home with you.
Family Friendly At-Home Activities
It is my hope that these will keep you entertained through the coming months! Plus, there is the added bonus of extra bonding time with your kids and spouse or partner. Trust me, when I tell you that I have gotten so much closer to my family, and we have created some unforgettable memories – all from the comfort of our own home!
Family Game Night
If you have been following me for a while, you know that my family has been doing family game nights for years! Every single Sunday is family game day, followed by family movie night. This has helped our family stay close — through competition and laughter.
I cannot recommend adding family game nights to your time at home enough. During this last year, we have added a couple on to our schedule. With the absence of sports and extra curricular activates, we are able to have three to four family game nights a week now. And you know what? We always look forward to them!
I have written about and reviewed plenty of family friendly games over the years – video games, board games, and card games. So be sure to check them out if you are looking for new ones to add to your game nights!
Arts & Crafts Projects
There is nothing quite like a good arts and crafts project! My daughters are now 8 and 9 and they still love pulling out the glue, construction paper, markers, stickers, glitter — you name it! Saturday mornings have become craft time in the Smith household and we have been having so much fun with it. Theming our crafts for the seasons has added to the fun too.
There are so many crafts that you can create, just check out all of these craft ideas I have shared over the years. My girls love making everything — but lately they have been all about the table decorations to use as centerpieces for our family dinners for the week!
Cooking & Baking Together
Speaking of family dinners — cooking and baking together has become a staple in our house. My daughters are always helping come up with our meal plan, and even with the cooking too! Yes, they are young, but they are starting to really pick up on some things.
Of course, there is nothing like letting their imaginations run wild as they come up with dinners and desserts for us. I have been pleasantly surprised on more than one occasion. Check out all of the recipes that I have shared on my site if you are looking for inspiration!
More At-Home Activities
Looking for more ideas? Don’t worry, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield has you totally covered! Check out their safe winter activates list. I should also mention that they have a 24/7 Nurse Hotline available for questions related to self-care and mental health — two very important things, especially right now.
It is very important to educate yourself and your family about everything that is going on right now. The virus, testing, and the vaccines, and it is simple to do your part and keep our community safe. Stay home, enjoy this time with your family, and take advantage of these at-home activities!
