There several reasons that I take my kids to see Disney On Ice every single year. One of the major ones is that I grew up going with my family, and I still cherish those memories. I want my girls to think of our times at Disney On Ice when they take their kids to see it years from now (many, many years from now).
Disney On Ice presents Celebrate Memories
If I had to pick my absolute favorite thing about Disney On Ice, it is that the show changes every single year. This ensures that kids (and parents) are entertained year to year — and gives us a reason to keep coming back. Shows are updated with new characters, songs, and stories. There is nothing like a Disney On Ice performance if you are Disney fan — trust me.
But this show fully exceeded all expectations. Not only did it add new characters (and keep the favorites), but it added something a little special to the beginning — and really used that big screen to help tell the story!

Putting The Big Screen To Good Use
The Disney On Ice presents Celebrate Memories stage had a large screen set up on one end. And they sure used it. To kick off the show, they played us some old Mickey Mouse cartoons. But what really got me was a video of Walt Disney himself saying “it all started with a mouse“. And then Mickey Mouse came out. That hit me right in the feels. Throughout the show they also showed some classic Goofy cartoons that had us cracking up!
They used the big screen during the different stories perfectly. We saw a little bit of Woody’s Roundup to introduce him and Jessie, got some serious snow during Frozen, and my favorite, Te Ka was up on the screen and she was throwing fire balls (which became sparks on the ice — yea, amazing).
Like Nothing We Have Seen Before
I have never seen Disney On Ice use the screen quite like this before — and it was perfect. I also really enjoyed how interactive this show was for the kiddos. There were two women dressed up and walking around with a “MousePad” that helped start the show, and do some trivia! It was a great way to keep the kids entertained while they waited for the show to start — and during intermission. My 6 year old was THRILLED when she got a high five from one!
Great New Additions…
Like I said before, I have seen a LOT of Disney On Ice shows, but some of my favorite characters had been missing. This was the first time Moana joined the show for me — and it was probably my favorite part of the whole thing.
Dory also joined the show, but not as part of Finding Nemo — as part of Finding Dory, where she was out looking for her parents. Hank even made an appearance and my girls loved that!
One of my personal favorites was the Inside Out emotions coming out on the ice! That part was really fun — and I love these guys. If you didn’t know, Inside Out was my first ever LA movie premiere, so they hold a special place in my heart.
We also got Sorcerer Mickey, who is my husband’s favorite. And yes, he clapped and cheered for him (and I LOVED that!).
Another great part of this show was done right before intermission. They had (almost) every Princess come out and do one song. This was absolutely amazing because they did a lot of trick skating — and some of them had their Princes with them. My favorite was easily Rapunzel and Eugene (Flynn Ryder) because they both twisted up in a ribbon and it was just incredible. Impossible to take photos of – but incredible. Plus we got to see Merida here and we have never seen her at Disney On Ice either!
…While Keeping The Favorites
Of course you can’t have Disney On Ice without Frozen. Now my husband is getting sick of that one — but the girls and I are not. At all. However, they did enough of the story without it taking up too much time. In the past it has filled up half of the show. We got the story and the best songs — and my daughter danced and sang her little heart out. She even made eye contact with Elsa and then cried from happiness. That is all that matters.
They also showed a little but of Toy Story, which we have seen before too. This time it was more Woody’s Roundup focused, with just him and Jessie at first — and then they were joined by Buzz Lightyear, Army Men, Hamm, and Rex. My youngest was screaming out for Hamm and he wagged his little foot to wave, she was thrilled!
Hands down Disney On Ice presents Celebrate Memories was my favorite show — but honestly, I love them all. There is nothing like stepping away from life with the kiddos to sing and dance along to your favorite Disney songs. Plus, these skaters are REALLY talented, and can do some amazing things.
It is always a good time, and I hope you make it a family tradition like I have. You won’t regret it. It is something your children are sure to remember for years and years to come.
Don’t forget to pick up your snacks and Disney On Ice merchandise while there! They have a wide variety of things — my girls chose a snowcone with an Olaf cup.
