SYRACUSE, NY – Upper Echelon Entertainment is proud to present the Come My Way concert featuring breakout artist Fetty Wap with special guests Remy Boyz 1738 and Kay Cola on Thursday, August 20th in The Oncenter Crouse Hind Theater. I love going to The Oncenter for shows because there is not a bad seat in the house!

Fetty Wap has seen resounding success with his first single, ‘Trap Queen,’ released in 2014. Named as part of the XXL 2015 Freshman Class, Wap’s platinum record Trap Queen is currently No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 13 on iTunes, has 19 million YouTube plays and 22 million SoundCloud plays. This year, Fetty Wap’s profile rose when he earned co-signs from stars like Trey Songz, Rihanna and Kanye West. In February, Fetty Wap was the surprise guest for West’s Roc City Classic show. Since then, Fetty Wap has been featured in Billboard, Complex and nominated for the 2015 XXL Freshman Class, a coveted list of the next wave of rap stars. He’s used this attention to introduce his crew Remy Boyz 1738, consisting of up-and-coming rappers Montana Buckz and P Dice. Meanwhile, Fetty Wap is finalizing his self- titled RGF Productions/300 Entertainment debut that will showcase his talents outside this viral hit.

Joining Fetty Wap and Remy Boyz 1738 for the Come My Way concert at The Oncenter is singer, songwriter, dancer and lucid dreamer, Kay Cola. Cola is the daughter of world-renowned classical musician Hubert Laws. Remarkably skilled at storytelling, Cola’s ability to evoke emotion through her lyrics has proved to be a very valuable tool. With songwriting as her introduction into the music industry, Cola quickly began acquiring an impressive clientele, writing on projects for artists such as Dr. Dre, Eminem, The Game and Ne-Yo. After penning songs for music’s heavyweights, she is now ready to take center stage. Cola has performed worldwide; she opened for Ne-Yo, toured with Eric Benet, recently opened for Eric Bellinger and will now open for Fetty Wap. Cola recently released her debut single “Not OK” featuring French Montana.

Tickets to the Come My Way concert will go on sale Friday, July 17th at 10am. Tickets will range from $42-$102 and will be available in person at the Solvay Bank Box Office at The Oncenter (760 S. I am a huge Star Wars nerd! In fact, my husband and I went to Star Wars Weekend at Disney World for our honeymoon – and had a blast! We even got to meet Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett himself) and that was super cool! This past weekend was San Diego Comic-Con. I do wish I was there and I was totally living vicariously through my friends who were. There was a lot of amazing announcements that came out of this weekend, but most importantly, was all the Star Wars: The Force Awakens goodies. My husband and I are counting the days until this comes out (December 18th!)! I cannot wait to see it! I just know it is going to blow us out of the water!

Fans at San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H were treated to a special look behind the scenes of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS by Director J.J. Abrams, Producer and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and Writer Lawrence Kasdan. The filmmakers were joined on stage by cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford to the surprise and delight of fans.

At the end of the Hall H presentation, the entire Hall H audience of more than 6,000 fans were all invited to continue the celebration and join cast and filmmakers at a surprise Star Wars Fan Concert. The San Diego Symphony performed the classic Star Wars music from John Williams at the Embarcadero Marina Park South. Ummm – can you say jealous!? I would have died if I was there. Well, at least I get to watch this Star Wars Comic-Con Reel over and over – and over…

I am counting down the days until Ant-Man comes to theaters and we have officially hit just ONE WEEK! Woohoo! These cupcakes are sure to impress your friends and family whether you are celebrating the movie release, having a Marvel or Superhero themed birthday party, or just entertaining for the summer. The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man” when master thief Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Be sure to go see Marvel’s Ant-Man in just 7 days (July 17th, 2015)!

Ant-Man Cupcakes

Ingredients:
Cupcake
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup plus 2 tbl milk
1/2 cup raisins

Frosting

1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter, softened
4 oz cream cheese, softened
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract

Cinnamon Raisin Cupcake      Cinnamon Raisin Cupcake

Directions

  1. Heat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and raisins.
  4. In a large bowl, mix the eggs, butter, and vanilla.
  5. Add the flour mixture and mix until smooth.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups.
  7. Bake until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center of a cupcake comes out clean (18 to 20 minutes).
  8. Transfer the cupcakes to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
  9. To make frosting: In a large bowl, beat together the butter and cream cheese with an electric mixer. With the mixer on low speed, add the powdered sugar a cup at a time until smooth and creamy. Beat in the vanilla extract.
  10. Frost cupcakes as you wish.
  11. Optional: Mix a little cinnamon & sugar together to sprinkle on top of the frosting. Use extra raisins as ants and cinnamon sticks as branches for more elaborate decorating.
  12. Don’t forget the printables from On the Scene with Mrs. Kathy King! These will be the cupcake wrappers and toppers that you see in my photos.

The Seventh Dwarf

Shout! Factory’s new animated film, THE SEVENTH DWARF, follows Bobo and six other dwarfs on an exciting adventure against a fiery dragon and the evil witch, Dellamorta. All very different in their own way, find out more about Bobo’s six dwarf pals, and see them in action on their journey to save Princess Rose in the hilarious clip below. I, for one, cannot WAIT to see this movie! I will be getting the Blu-Ray and will be sure to let you guys know how it is right away. My girls and I have watched the trailer at least 50 times now, and they know every word. They ask me all of the time when they will get to watch the film and “soon” just doesn’t cut it. I know that this is sure to be a huge hit with us.

My husband used to be in the United States Navy so military movies (especially Navy and Coast Guard ones) are always favorites in our house. Anything that has to do with the ocean and boats, you can pretty much guarantee we are going to see it in the theater. And if it is a Disney movie – well – nothing can keep us away. We are a Disney Household all the way. My husband and I honeymooned there and my daughters who are 4 and 2 are going for their second time in October.

As soon as I heard about The Finest Hours I knew it was a movie that we would want to see. It is a true story and also took place in Massachusetts area where I grew up. Not to mention the stellar cast includes Casey Affleck (swoon) and Eric Bana (double swoon). Check out the trailer below and then I dare you to tell me that you are not excited about this movie.

Synopsis:

A heroic action-thriller, “The Finest Hours” is the remarkable true story of the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard history. Presented in Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D, the film will transport audiences to the heart of the action, creating a fully-immersive cinematic experience on an epic scale. On February 18, 1952, a massive nor’easter struck New England, pummeling towns along the Eastern seaboard and wreaking havoc on the ships caught in its deadly path, including the SS Pendleton, a T-2 oil tanker bound for Boston, which was literally ripped in half, trapping more than 30 sailors inside its rapidly-sinking stern. Deployment Is Hard. Trust Duracell.

As most of you know, my husband is a United Stated Navy Veteran. Times were really tough when he was in the service and I am so glad that we decided to wait to have children. Neither of us wanted the heartache of them growing up without him around – especially during deployments. These last 7 months or so and because he was on a submarine, well, they were harder than normal. We would barely get to speak. We had email – sometimes – maybe. It was a tough life. We would not talk on the phone for weeks, or months, depending on how long he was under the water for. One of his Navy buddies told us that the first birthday party for his daughter he got to attend, was her 8th birthday. That’s rough.

Memorial Day

On a submarine you can’t just pick up the phone to call your loved ones. Depending on how far down you are, sometimes you can’t even send and receive emails. Luckily I was working at the time (or I would have gone insane) and had some great friends and family members that wouldn’t mind me calling them and talking to them for hours if I was bored or lonely. We often thank servicemen and their families for the sacrifices they make, and having been a “Navy Wife”, I must say, this is justified. I cannot imagine having children while in the military. It would break my heart to have to explain to my girls why their daddy was going to be gone for the better part of the year. And I know it would have broken my husband’s heart as well – seeing what a hands-on and incredible father he is now.

To get through my husband’s deployments I would reread his emails, listen to his voice mails, and play a lot of video games (that definitely had a hand in me becoming the hardcore gamer I am today). I also read – a lot. I remember reading the entire Harry Potter series in a week. I recently saw a Duracell commercial (WARNING: Have tissues ready.) that brought me to tears. In it, a father sends a battery powered teddy bear with his voice to his daughter. This is based on a true story that they were inspired by. Duracell had the honor to meet a military family in California.  The young daughter showed them how she was able to have the comfort of her father’s voice during his deployment through a battery-powered recordable teddy bear. I know that if we did have children while my husband was still in the Navy, we would have one (or 5) of these – and we would trust Duracell to power it while he was away.

Since the war in Afghanistan began in 2001, more than 2 million American children have had a deployed parent. Many of them have seen multiple deployments:  3, 4, or even 5 family separations. A major issue that children have during a military deployment is the void that opens when they lose their parent’s daily affection and love. Recordable teddy bears, along with other battery-powered devices such as recordable storybooks provide reliable comfort no matter when or where their parent is deployed. In honor of all of the families who stand beside our troops, Duracell wants to power more comforting moments for loved ones through a donation of $100,000 to USO’s Comfort Crew for Military Kids. I am counting the days until I get to see Ant-Man – just two weeks!! I have already heard so many rave reviews – and most of them from non-comic book readers. I would lie if I said I wasn’t a tad jealous of those that have already seen this film. My husband and I have already secured a date night for opening night and we can’t wait. We both read the comic books and knowing what hand Ant-Man has in many things – including the Avengers and something called the Dark Avengers – we are really hoping that Marvel steers that way. Dark Avengers would be, well, dark, so I am not sure they will go full blown, but we will have to wait and see. Ever since reading the Dark Avengers storyline, Scott Lang’s Ant-Man has been one of my favorite characters. Don’t get me wrong, I love Henry Pym, but Scott Lang truly brings something new to the suit – and I have a feeling Paul Rudd is going to capture that perfectly.

Speaking of Paul Rudd, on Wednesday he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of the historic El Capitan Theatre (I have been there! Eek – read about that here)! How amazing is that! He got a plaque for himself – and a mini one for Ant-Man (which I find hilarious). I just had to share some of these amazing photos with you. Ant-Man Director Peyton Reed and Co-Star Michael Douglas were both there to help Paul celebrate. I love Paul Rudd – always have – and this just makes me even more excited for Ant-Man! Are you going to see it in theaters in two weeks?! You best bet I will be there!

I am always looking for movies that I can enjoy with my daughters. There are a lot of kids’ options out there, but only so many that a parent can sit through as well. I think that The Seventh Dwarf is going to be one of those. Ever since I found out about this movie, I have been drying to see it with my girls. It looks hilarious and fun – not to mention to amazing voice cast like Norm MacDonald and Peyton List. The Seventh Dwarf is coming to Blu-Ray and DVD on August 18th, 2015 from Shout! Factory. Synopsis:
Join all seven dwarfs for an adventure as big as they are small! It’s the eve of Princess Rose’s 18th birthday. Everyone in the kingdom has come to Fantabularasa Castle to celebrate including Snow White, the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella and Red Riding Hood. But just before the stroke of midnight Bobo, the youngest dwarf, accidentally pricks the finger of Princess Rose (a.k.a. Sleeping Beauty) with a cursed needle and sends the kingdom into a century-long slumber! I hope you tuned in to the Disney Channel watch Teen Beach 2 on Friday. It is an incredible movie with amazing values. I really enjoyed watching it when I went to LA (I even teared up a few times), and I enjoyed sharing it with my family last week even more. My husband, who “liked” the first one, was glued to the screen for the second one. He kept asking me what was going to happen – and of course, I kept my mouth shut and made him watch. He was pretty vocal about certain parts (don’t worry I won’t give anything away, but if you have seen the movie I bet you know what I am talking about – hint: surprise ending). Not only has the movie aired on the Disney Channel already, it is already available on DVD! The DVD includes fun bonus footage and can be purchased here.

This is a movie that my family plans to watch over and over so we need to have the DVD on hand. My young daughters love it – and I am really happy that they do. It teaches them that being a strong, independent woman is OK. It shows them that they can do what they want to make them happy, they don’t have to follow along someone else’s script just because they think that is what they are supposed to do. Teen Beach 2 also has a lot to show kids about friendship. So many movies pit girl against girl and show their relationships in a hateful way. Not in Teen Beach 2. Mack and Lela are true best friends and wouldn’t ever do anything to hurt or spite one another. In fact, they would be willing to help each other in any way, even if that comes at a sacrifice for themselves. Same goes for Brady and Tanner. They are great friends and they each have something to teach the other. Teen Beach 2 also helps kids (or people in general even) build confidence. Brady has an amazing talent that he is too embarrassed to share, but learns that he should proud of it.

Teen Beach 2 is a great follow up to Teen Beach Movie. There are several twists and turns – and of course, the big surprise ending (have tissues on hand) – but it is also filled with some pretty awesome dance and song numbers. These songs are meant to get stuck in your head – and they do. I first saw the movie three weeks ago and was singing the songs right up until I saw it again on Friday. One of my favorites is CheeChee (Chrissie Fit) and Seacat’s (Jordan Fisher) newer version of Falling For Ya. They take a favorite from the first movie and make it their own. The bonus footage on the DVD includes the actors discussing their favorite songs and moments from the movie – as well as exclusive rehearsal footage. I loved watching this because it made me feel like I was on set with them. I really enjoyed seeing how much fun they all had together. When I was lucky enough to chat with Chrissie Fit and Jordan Fisher after screening the movie (read that interview here), they just solidified that point to me. This cast really is like a family – they had a blast filming – and it comes through in the movie!
