Go behind the scenes of The Rose: Come Back To Me with Director Eugene Yi and Producer Diane Quon in this interview.
As the global countdown begins for the Valentine’s Day premiere of The Rose: Come Back To Me, I had the pleasure of sitting down with the creative forces behind the lens: Director Eugene Yi and Producer Diane Quon. Our discussion explores the making of this immersive documentary, which chronicles the rise of the K-Rock sensation, The Rose, from intimate beginnings to sold-out tours across the globe.
One of the most poignant takeaways from our conversation was the intentionality behind the film’s atmosphere. Diane Quon highlighted a pivotal production choice: allowing the band members – Woosung, Dojoon, Hajoon, and Jaehyeong – to speak freely in both Korean and English.

The goal was simple yet profound: comfort. By removing the pressure of translation, the members could share their stories with raw, unfiltered authenticity. Diane noted that this was a big reason for bringing Eugene Yi on board as Director; him being bilingual created a bridge of trust, ensuring nothing was lost in translation as the band navigated their most vulnerable moments on screen. At the same time, they kept the crew small, so members could get to know everyone in the room, and once again, feel comfortable being vulnerable.
We also explored the meticulous process of selecting concert footage. With a tour spanning from London to Seoul and culminating at the iconic Coachella Music Festival, the team had a wealth of high-energy performances to choose from.

However, the documentary isn’t just a highlight reel. Eugene and Diane were focused on what it was about The Rose‘s story that needed to be told right now – specifically, their legal battle with their company and not letting it destroy them as a group.
