Catalina Sandino Moreno talks Tabitha’s FROM Season 4 grief, sharing her discovery with the rest of the town, and why everyone must work together.
WARNING: SPOILERS FOR FROM SEASON 4 AIRED EPISODES BELOW.
The hit sci-fi horror series FROM has never been a show for the faint of heart, but Season 4 has pushed its characters – and its audience – to the absolute limit. As the mystery of the town deepens, the stakes have shifted from mere survival to a soul-crushing exploration of destiny and grief.
Tabitha Matthews, portrayed by the brilliant Catalina Sandino Moreno, finds herself at the center of the storm. After the harrowing revelation that she has walked these woods before in a past life as Victor’s mother, Tabitha is forced to reconcile a history she doesn’t fully remember with a present she can barely endure. To make matters worse, the fragile hope of the Matthews family has been shattered by the devastating death of Jim. Seeing Jim’s body hanging was a visceral reminder that in this place, the cost of seeking the truth is often paid in blood.
Mama’s Geeky caught up with Catalina Sandino Moreno to discuss Tabitha’s journey in FROM Season 4, the emotional weight of losing her on-screen partner, and what it means to finally have an endgame in sight as the series approaches its fifth and final season.
Catalina Sandino Moreno On Tabitha’s Journey In FROM

Mama’s Geeky: After everything Tabitha has discovered about her past as Victor’s mother, she now has to balance that weight with the immediate grief of Jim’s death. What was it like exploring her decision to be so open with the town about what she found, while simultaneously dealing with such a massive personal loss?
Catalina Sandino Moreno: I think that’s the only way to, you know, make plans is to talk to people, is to talk among themselves and be like, what’s going on? If it was up to me, I’ll have a town meeting every Sunday with, you know, coffee and be like, what happened to you? Okay, what happened to you? Okay, what happened to you? I mean, from town, we’ve been there for four seasons, but it feels like a month. But every day something happens. So I think, I mean, Tabitha doesn’t even know what’s happening. Julie… they don’t talk to each other. No one talks to each other. So it’s just, it’s the only way to figure things out. That’s the only way to, you know, and there’s not going to be, it’s a collaborative thing. If they want to leave, they have to be all together. They’re doing this together. You have to work with each other.

Mama’s Geeky: The scenes where she sees Jim’s body were absolutely heart-wrenching. Can you talk about filming that moment?
Catalina Sandino Moreno: Oh, those scenes were beautiful. And you know, seeing Jim hanging was horrible, but it was such a beautiful written little paragraph that was just so tender and reading it, I’m like, oh my God, so sweet. This is so sad because it’s true. You can fight with your partner, you can tell them that you hate them, but at the end of the day, they’ve been together for more than 20 years. So how can you not tell them that you lost part of you? You keep losing part of you. She lost a child and now she’s losing Jim. And it’s tough.
Mama’s Geeky: What was it like getting to explore Tabitha and Victor’s unique relationship this season?
Catalina Sandino Moreno: I love that. I love that. There’s a beautiful scene that I have with Victor… it’s just so simple and so honest. And it was just an in-a-moment realization for Tabitha and for everyone. I just want to know how Henry’s situation is going to come around. And I’m just, I just have so many questions how season five is going to evolve. Because I have so many questions myself. It’s going to be interesting. It’s going to be so much fun to see how everything evolves.

Mama’s Geeky: With the news that Season 5 will be the final season, how does it feel as an actor to know you get to bring this story to a definitive conclusion?
Catalina Sandino Moreno: Yeah, it’s going to be beautiful to just finish this whole story. And, you know, as an actor, sometimes you don’t have the luxury. You just have to say goodbye to the characters just like that. You know, it got canceled no more. But now we just have the luxury to say goodbye to our characters. And hopefully it’s going to be a good goodbye. I mean, if it’s an end and everyone’s stuck in there… no, no, no, me too. No, I’m like, that would be so depressing. It would be so horrible. People are going to get pissed off. So pissed off is like nobody leaves. Like we’ll figure it out.
