Yuvi Hecht talks playing young David in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, Colin Farrell’s advice, and how he delivered an emotional crying scene.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is a whimsical and emotional film that invites viewers on a magical ride through love, destiny, and second chances. The film follows Sarah and David, two strangers who meet at a wedding and are swept into a fantastical journey that forces them to confront their pasts and reshape their futures. The movie stars Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, with rising star Yuvi Hecht playing a pivotal role as a young version of Farrell’s character.
I had the incredible opportunity to sit down with Hecht to discuss his role in this beautiful film, his experience working alongside Hollywood legends, and what it was like to make his feature film debut on such a high-profile project.
Working with Hollywood Legends
Mama’s Geeky: This is your first feature-length film. What does that feel like?
Yuvi Hecht: Oh my gosh, it’s incredible. This is what us actors work for our whole lives. To be a part of this beautiful movie and this project, it’s truly an honor.
Mama’s Geeky: Your first movie is with Colin Farrell and Margot Robbie. Did you get to work with Colin a lot to make sure your version of David aligned with his version?
Yuvi Hecht: Yeah, me and Colin, especially leading up to the shoot, we would work a lot together. There was a moment where we were on set, and he took me into his trailer, and we were just sitting there working on the accent. He was so fun, and getting to meet Colin—he’s such an amazing guy. He was so generous with his time. He’s incredible.
Mama’s Geeky: Do you feel like you learned anything from him?
Yuvi Hecht: Oh my gosh, are you kidding me? Seeing him work and how he takes every step is calculated. I like to say that being on set and learning from those types of actors is like a masterclass. You learn so much just by being there and looking and, you know.
Yuvi Hecht On Bringing David to Life
Mama’s Geeky: What was it that really drew you to this script?
Yuvi Hecht: Especially in this day and age where we’re living in a world of remakes, I read the script and it’s so original and it’s beautiful and it’s funny. It’s emotional. It’s whimsical. There are so many aspects to this story. What I really think it does is it sends a message and it makes you feel something. I read that script and I was moved and I was motivated, and I knew that it was going to be special.
Mama’s Geeky: You play the younger version of Colin Farrell’s character, and your scenes come at the end of the movie. Was it daunting to be the one wrapping everything up?
Yuvi Hecht: There were so many feelings going through me, but the most was just excitement. I was so excited to be there and to be a part of this project. Everyone was so wonderful, so it was so easy to just connect to the character and connect to the other actors in the crew. It was beautiful.
Mama’s Geeky: What did you love most about working on this?
Yuvi Hecht: Honestly, I love crying scenes. I feel there’s something about just being there and being in the moment and really living in the scene and just being able to connect to the character and live in that. That’s what I really loved.
Mama’s Geeky: What would you say allowed you to be so present in those scenes?
Yuvi Hecht: When you’re on a set and everyone makes you feel so included and loved and you feel comfortable, and you’re working with an incredible actor that also makes it easy to get into the role, it makes everything else easier.
A Whimsical and Emotional Journey
Mama’s Geeky: What do you hope that people take away from this movie?
Yuvi Hecht: It’s a story about love. I think everyone can connect to it. It’s got its magical elements, and it’s whimsical and inspiring. I hope that people really leave the theater and just sit with it and remember and feel something and feel inspired.
Mama’s Geeky: How would you describe A Big Bold Beautiful Journey for somebody who hasn’t seen it yet?
Yuvi Hecht: It’s a love story between two strangers, Sarah and David. They meet at a wedding, and fate brings them on this journey. They go through these doors and they revisit their past, some of their most vulnerable moments, and the moments that really altered their future. They get the chance to go back and alter their future and learn about each other. It’s beautiful.
Mama’s Geeky: Do you have any moments from set or filming that will really stick with you?
Yuvi Hecht: I think, honestly, the advice that Colin gave me. We sat down and he told me to always stay present and to be in the moment and to always be humble. That will stick with me. I’ll always remember that.
