On the set of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, the cast and creatives discuss being a part of the legacy of Big Bang Theory and keeping the franchise going.

The Big Bang Theory is an iconic show that is sure to be remembered as one of the best sitcoms ever. Young Sheldon was the first spin-off of the series, which followed Sheldon and his family when he was a child. Now, there is a spin-off of that series called Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. This show follows Sheldon’s brother Georgie and his wife as they raise their child.
As if by fate’s design, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage actually films on the same sound stage that The Big Bang Theory filmed on. Recently we were invited as part of a press group to tour that very set and speak with the cast and creatives behind the series. They discuss what it is like to be a part of such an incredible legacy, as well as how freeing it is to not have an outline of bullet points they have to hit.
The Cast Says It Is “An Honor” To Be A Part Of The Big Bang Theory Legacy

What does it mean to be a part of the Big Bang Theory legacy?
Emily Osment: It’s hard to sum up just in a few words. I mean, every time I walk through this area of the stage, I hope I don’t fall through the elevator shaft that was a part of BIG BANG. And not only are we here on Stage 25, but we also have Mark Cendrowski, who directed almost all of BIG BANG. And we have him here with us. And he is at the heart of this show, and I just absolutely love working with these people. And I’m so grateful that we get to walk the same path that that BIG BANG did. It’s fabulous.
Montana Jordan: Yeah. I’ll second that. I’m very thankful to be around all these people and I’m learning every day. I’ve never, it’s my first multi-cam, you know, and YOUNG SHELDON was my first TV show, and I got through that. So I’m learning every day and just watching all these professionals and, and yeah, it’s been great, it really has.
Steve Holland: You wouldn’t know, [but when]we talked about going back to multi, we knew we had this cast. We have Emily who’s done it since she was a kid, and we have Rachel and Will who have done multi forever. And Montana had never done it…but we had faith he could do it and Montana walked out there and crushed [the pilot]and we were like, “This is going to be great.”
Details On Lance Barber’s Return As Georgie Sr.

You have had so many legacy characters from The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon join. Who can we expect to see next?
Steve Holland: We’ve got Lance Barber. [He] is going to be returning as George Sr. in an episode coming up, which we’re really excited about. And it was so much fun to have him back on the set, especially after killing him off on Young Sheldon. That was our apology.
Georgie is thinking about his dad, and he’s sort of worried that his dad might be disappointed in him. And so his dad visits him in a dream. And it sort of came out of a conversation we’d had with Chuck even early on talking about the show. And Chuck had said about his own father that he still dreams about him, that he still visits him. And so that was the thing we had sort of thought about. And then when we were breaking this episode, it just seemed like a great opportunity to bring George back.

Are there other family milestones that you have up on a bulletin board in the writers’ room where you know that this is affecting today’s storytelling because you’re writing to a certain death or marriage or something that has already been established?
Steven Molaro: I hope not. It’s very stressful to try to get that stuff correct. Is there anything left?
Steve Holland: I think we’re lucky enough that in this show we don’t know that much about Georgie and Mandy and their relationship. Even from Big Bang, there’s very little…we know at some point he becomes a tire magnate. And that’s kind of the only thing because yeah on Young Sheldon we had lots of things and trying to figure out the timeline and when things were supposed to happen was breaking our brains.
How Will Georgie Become The Womanizing Georgie Fans Saw On The Big Bang Theory?

In The Big Bang Theory Georgie is played by Jerry O’Connell and he is a womanizer, twice divorced, and quite a bully. Montana plays Georgie so lovingly. Do you think about how you are going to eventually have to have this change in character?
Steve Holland: We’re saving all that for season 12.
Rachel Bay Jones: The lobotomy episode.
