The Dune: Prophecy New York Comic-Con panel revealed details of the upcoming series. Here are the highlights.
The newest addition to the Dune universe comes in the form of an upcoming television series, Dune: Prophecy. Cast and creatives attended New York Comic-Con 2024 to give fans an inside look at the series, which will stream on HBO Max starting November 17.
Not only was the release date revealed at the panel (hosted by Maude Garrett), but a full-length trailer was dropped online, and played for the fans in attendance at the Dune: Prophecy panel on the big screen. Afterward, the panelists discussed the series. They made it clear just how much fun they have together, joking around for a lot of the panel, but still giving thoughtful answers and insight into the new series.
“We feel like we have to follow the essence of what Denis has done. He set the tone.” – Jordan Goldberg (Executive Producer)
Of Course The Harkonnens Are In Dune: Prophecy
Olivia Williams and Emily Watson, who play two Harkonnen sisters, Valya and Tula, claim that the women who join the Bene Gesserit tend to come from messed up families and lots of trauma – something that these two sisters know a lot about.
It was pointed out that fans are well aware of the Harkonnens, and these sisters embody the characteristics that they are known for. Williams and Watson said that they had a lot of fun filming together.
They also feel that nothing is good or bad in the world of Dune, stating that “everything is compromised”, which “determines the right path for humankind”. Williams adds, “It’s got tremendous resonance to what’s happening today politically, and who’s right and who’s wrong?”
Who Is Desmond Hart?
Desmond Hart is played by Travel Fimmel, who describes his character as someone with “mental and addiction issues”. All of the cast and creatives agree that Desmond is going to be a fan favorite, but it will be hard to pinpoint if he is good or bad. He is a brand new character, not taken from the books, which means that Fimmel did not feel the pressure of having to get it right, stating he “had more room to play”.
“During the Machine Wars, humans fought against computers and AI, which led to a ban on thinking machines. This stagnated technology, resulting in the neo-feudal-meets-sci-fi aesthetic that fans love.” – Alison Schapker (co-showrunner)
