Apple TV+’s Time Bandits delivers fun and adventure for the whole family as it follows a hilarious ragtag group of misfits through time and space.
Apple TV+’s Time Bandits is the first time the classic film has been given a refresh. Co-creators, writers, and executive producers Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement do a wonderful job of paying homage to the original film, but also bringing something new and unique to life for a new generation of fans.
This series follows a young boy named Kevin who is a bit of a history buff, which causes those around him to find him boring. When his wildest dreams come true, and a group of bandits end up in his room, he is wisked away on a series of adventures so that he can save his parents, and the world.
Apple TV+ has an instant hit on their hands, which is largely in part due to the fact that Time Bandits is sure to appeal to a wide range of audiences. Kids will have an absolute blast with it, as will teens and adults. There are jokes sprinkled throughout that are for older audiences, but they will go right over the heads of younger ones. Plus, who hasn’t wanted to travel through space and time? Just seeing these wild adventures is going to put a smile on viewers’ faces.
Waititi and Clement have an incredible sense of humor. This has been proven through the work they have done time and time again. Combining forces for something like Time Bandits, which already has a collection of fans, and upgrading it for modern day in such a brilliant way is more than enough reason to tune in.
Of course, the two make appearances in the series as well, with Clement playing Pure Evil and Waititi playing The Supreme Being. They are both so perfect for the roles, we truly cannot picture anyone else replacing them.
Throughout the different episodes, Kevin and his bandit friends visit some truly incredible places. From mideval times, to the ice age, to ends of the Earth, each set is more elaborate and detailed than the one before it. The costumes and set design are true marvels, and something to be proud of. The scale alone is epic.
Over the course of its ten episodes, Time Bandits delivers jaw-droping action, hilarious comedy, intense and suspenseful sequences, as well as a whole lot of heart. It is impossible not to fall in love with each and every one of these characters. While there is some resolution to the story, the final episode ends on a cliffhanger. We can confidently say that viewers will be begging for more, so bring on season two.
“Time Bandits” will premiere globally on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes of its 10-episode season on Wednesday, July 24, followed by two new episodes every Wednesday through August 21, 2024.
