THEM: THE SCARE Review: It’s Absolutely Terrifying

THEM: THE SCARE is a deeply unsettling, terrifyingly horrific, watch. If you thought THEM season 1 was scary, just wait. It should be noted this review is based solely on the first five episodes of THEM: THE SCARE.

Them: The Scare review

Prime Video’s THEM was one of the most unsettling seasons of television, and now the anthology series is back to up its game. Deborah Ayorinde returns in a new role, leaving Lucky behind to shine as Detective Dawn Reeve, who is tasked with solving a series of truly horrific murders. THEM: THE SCARE takes place in the 1990s, while the first season was set in the 1950s. Still offering up social commentary, this season seems to dive even more into the scares — hence the subtitle — and we are here for it.

Them: The Scare review

Much like American Horror Story, THEM tells completely different stories throughout each season, and we really hope that it continues. Ayorinde steals the show every time that she is on the screen. It was easy to love her character Lucky, and it is just as easy to love Dawn. Because we only received five episodes of THEM season 2 for review purposes, we are still right in the middle of the mystery along with her, trying to put the puzzle pieces together.

For those who are not fans of horror, THEM: THE SCARE is not for you. Not only are there jump scares, there are visuals that will make your skin crawl. Just wait until you see what the murdered bodies look like… it is enough to send shivers down anyone’s spine. That being said, this decision instantly makes the story intrguing, as viewers will be wondering who, or what, could do something like that.

THEM: THE SCARE Cast Talks Terrifying Season 2

While we haven’t seen it all play out just yet, we have our suspicions. Thankfully, the series is just predictable enough to keep those watching feel like they are starting to unravel it all, but we have a feeling that they are going to be in store for major reveals in the final few episodes. When speaking with the cast, they teased that after watching episode five, we have seen nothing yet, and that the real craziness comes in episode seven.

So far THEM: THE SCARE is one of the most terrifying seasons of television this year. Audiences are sure to spend most of their time watching on the edge of their seats, covering their eyes when the horrific visuals pop up. There is a lot going on here, so be sure to put your phones away and dive all in. You won’t regret it.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5
