The #MeToo movement changed the world as we know it thanks to several incredibly brave women who were unafraid to speak the truth and stand up against sexual harassment and abuse. She Said shows the perspective from the journalistic side, which is is an interesting take on the situation.

Megan Twohey (Carey Mulligan) and Jodi Kantor (Zoe Kazan) are the reporters who worked endlessly and tirelessly to give these women a voice, ending decades of silence. This films shows their journey as they speak with the abused women in an effort to convince them to go on the record with their stories.

While both of these women give incredible performances, it is Kazan who stands out. She very clearly put her heart and soul into this film, and is extremely believable in her role. The emotions that she goes through as she listens to these ladies telling their accounts of what happened is written all over her face. The character is deeply effected by what others went through, and Kazan is pure perfection at delivering that pain and determination to get them justice.

Mulligan is great, as well, and plays the supporting role with feeling and intensity. However, she is very much the supporting role and never shines bright enough to move out from behind Kazan in She Said, not that it is necessary for her to at all.

The two together make a powerful team. Throw in Patricia Clarkson and Andre Braugher and you have a truly dedicated ensemble cast with great chemistry.

She Said focuses heavily on the conversations being had by these women and the journalists, there is a sense of urgency layered throughout that helps keep things interesting. On paper a script that is mostly just people talking on the phone has the potential to be very slow and boring.

But thanks to the subject matter and the knowledge at just how critical these women speaking up was, and how it started a massive movement that has shaped things for the better, makes it interesting and captivating. Despite knowing how it all ends up, the movie still plays in a suspenseful way, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats as they wait for what they know will happen, to happen.

She Said is a gripping story that is brought to life through several incredible and powerful performances. Watching things play out from the journalists side of the story is a fascinating take on the well known real life events. If there was ever any doubt as to how meaningful these women coming forward was, and the impact it had on the world, it is squashed now.
