iCarly Reboot Episodes 1-3 Review: Same Vibes With Updated Maturity

iCarly is back with the first 3 episodes of the reboot available now on Paramount+ – the show gives the same silly vibes, but updated!

From the very first minute of the very first episode, the iCarly reboot feels exactly like it did when it left. As the episodes go on there is the same silly humor, crazy hijinks, and all around fun vibe from Miranda Cosgrove (Carly), Jerry Trainor (Spencer), and Nathan Kress (Freddie). The overall feel is a bit more mature, but it still has that iCarly feel. Fans of the original show are sure to be very pleased with the first season of the reboot.

The revival takes place almost ten years after the final episode of the original run, and focuses on Carly and her friends as they navigate life in their twenties. This includes things like dating, and some of the content is on the more mature side, while still staying true to the original iCarly feel.

While Jeanette McCurdy’s presence is missed, they do a great job of explaining where she is, that is a true fit for Sam. This explanation also leaves room for her to come back, should she want to do a cameo or rejoin the cast in the future. Fans everywhere are likely crossing their fingers this will happen, even though McCurdy has said she has moved on from acting.

After watching the first three episodes, it is clear that the intent of this show is to remain similar, while stepping it up a notch. Carly and her friends have gotten older, and so has the audience. That isn’t to say that a younger audience will not enjoy the iCarly reboot, as the silly humor and jokes are still there, but there is a lot more for the older fans as well.

Besides Spencer and Freddie, there are other fan favorites returning like Nora and Freddie’s mother — both of which deliver some hilarious moments. There are new cast members as well that help bring a fresh feel to the show — Laci Mosley who plays Carly’s roommate and friend Harper, and Jaidyn Triplett who takes on the role of Freddie’s adopted daughter Millicent.

Longtime fans of iCarly are sure to love and appreciate the show for what it is — the same silly humor with a bit of updated themes and messaging.
