We recently moved into an older home. It was built in the 1890s and we chose it because of how beautiful it was and because of all the details you just don’t get in a home anymore. However, along with those gorgeous details, we got really old pipes and plumbing. Unfortunately this means a lot of clogged drains and toilets. We (wrongly) assumed that it also meant a lot of expensive plumbing bills when we first moved in, and then we discovered Roto-Rooter at home products.

My husband is almost impossible to buy for. So when it comes to Father’s Day gifts, my daughters and I have to think outside the box. We have found some great items while shopping this year, and so I wanted to pass them along to my readers. All items listed were personally tested by myself and/or my husband.
You might have noticed that my social media handles have been migrating away from Mama Smith’s and to Mama’s Geeky. That is because I have some pretty exciting news! Mama Smith’s will become Mama’s Geeky over the course of the next few days. Don’t worry, this won’t effect anything. I will still have the same great content, just a more focused name on what I am really all about.
As a mom of two young kids, one thing I am very concerned about is tobacco and cigarettes. They see them everywhere and my husband and I have been trying to teach them about how unhealthy they are. Yes, we even sometimes over exaggerate with words like “ew” and “gross” when we are near someone smoking, but it seems to be helping. I was very pleased to hear about the Seen Enough Tobacco Campaign that Tobacco Free New York has launched because kids really have seen enough.
Happy Mother’s Day to all you great moms out there! I hope you’re having a happy, healthy celebration. Yes, I put happy and healthy in the same sentence—because we are happier when we’re living a healthy life. And what better time to start than today, the launch of National Women’s Health Week?
This Mother’s Day why not WOW Mom with some fun and unique gifts that she would never think to purchase for herself. I am a mom of two little girls and I love to receive gifts that I would not think to pick up myself. Many moms are like this so I have put together a list of some gifts that I would be thrilled to be given for Mother’s Day. Enjoy!
Every once in a while I really open up to you guys and get (probably) too personal. One of my very first posts was about my home water birth with my youngest daughter. I am not sure if I have really mentioned it before, but my first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. My husband and I had only been married for a couple of months and were thrilled. When we found out we lost the baby, it was extremely hard. In fact, it was not confirmed for about a month which was very hard on us.
I am not a big makeup person in the sense that I do not do a full face of makeup everyday. But one thing that I do nearly every day is wear lipstick. I just feel like it makes my face pop and I enjoy wearing it. I learned about LipSense from a friend of mine, Kara, who happens to sell it. She told me that it lasts entire day – if not longer. I am constantly reapplying lipstick so this sounded like something that would save me lots of time. She sent me some to try out and boy, did it make a difference!
If you are looking to fill your little one’s Easter Basket with fun and unique gifts this year, look no further! Sure, we all want to add candy to their baskets, and I have chosen some great stuff to include, but I always enjoy adding some toys and other items that will get longtime use! Here is a list of items that I know the Easter Bunny would be happy to hop in with at your house this year! If you have any suggestions yourself, feel free to leave a comment letting everyone know!
I have a husband and two young kids – so I know a thing or two about clogged toilets. Why is it that kids think they are not fully clean unless they use half a roll of toilet paper? I know that it can’t just be my kids who do this! The results? Lots of clogged toilets. But I cannot put the blame only on them – I shed like a dog in the middle of summer. I am honestly surprised by how much hair I still have on my head – because it ends up all over the house. And that includes our shower and sink drains. We live in an older house and while it is gorgeous – we struggle a lot with clogged drains and toilets due to older plumbing. I spent too much with a plunger or a snake down our toilets before I decided to try Roto-Rooter. I knew they were the #1 brand in plumbing services, but I just never thought to try their drain care products – until now!
