Simu Liu famously tweeted Marvel about taking on the role of Shang-Chi back in 2018 — Marvel President Kevin Feige weighs on if that helped him get it.
Simu Liu is the first Asian leading man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with role of superhero Shang-Chi in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This is something he was wanted for quite some time, as he famously tweeted about it back in 2018. During a press day to help promote the upcoming release, Marvel President Kevin Feige was asked about the impact that Simu’s tweet had on helping him at least get in the room with Marvel.

“I did not see that.” Kevin Feige explains, “Unfortunately, Simu, it was not your tweeting. It was your acting ability, your constant professionalism, and the multiple reads and meetings that you did. Now did Sarah Finn see that, our casting director, I don’t know the answer.”
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Director Destin Daniel Cretton admits that he did not see the tweet either, but that he feels the universe did. To which Simu Liu added “Speak it into the universe and it will come true.”
Marvel fans everywhere are sure to be thankful that the universe witnessed Liu’s request once they see him in action as Shang-Chi when the film hits theaters on September 3rd.
