1917 is one of the best war films I have ever seen. Epic from beginning to end, it truly captures the horrors of trench warfare.
I love war movies. In fact, Platoon is one of my favorite movies of all time. When I first heard about 1917, and saw the trailer for it, I was excited to watch it. Then life happened. But I eventually got to it and I regret not watching it sooner. 1917 is truly a cinematic masterpiece. If had me in awe the entire film. It captures the horrors of trench warfare.
You might have heard that 1917 is done to try to look like a one take shot. This is the part that I was really looking forward to because I love scenes like that. And I was totally blown away at how amazing it looked on screen. Something you might notice is that the movie starts and ends with similar scenes.
I was totally impressed with how much 1917 came off to look like one complete shot. Sure, there were several moments where you could tell they passed by a building, or a tree, for the sole reason of being able to cut, but maintain the one shot look.
Stunning Visuals
As depressing as the subject matter is, the visuals were stunning. There were many scenes with a soldier running and I just couldn’t help but look at all that was going on around him or in the background. It was so real. This movie is worth watching just for the visuals and cinematic experience. However, you will likely enjoy the plot as well.

Overall Thoughts
1917 is a must watch movie. If you are a fan of war movies, like I am, you will be blown away. But you will also probably really enjoy this movie if you like dramas. The story captured me from the beginning. There were several moments that completely shocked me and yes — I shed a few tears.
If you are looking for a movie that will put right in the action of a war, 1917 is it. This movie perfectly captures the horrors of trench warfare and you will likely feel like you are a part of the action.
