The Pitt Season 2 Episode 7, “1:00 P.M.” Review: A Difficult Watch Portrays The Aftermath Of A Woman’s Greatest Nightmare.

Content Warning: In addition to The Pitt spoilers, this review contains mention of sexual assault.

The Pitt season 2, episode 7 was a difficult watch for any woman who’s walked through the ER doors, unsure of how to move forward with their lives. It’s a feeling that those who’ve experienced some form of sexual abuse will relate to, as well as the self-doubt that manages to creep its way in.

Did I somehow cause this? Did he know what he was doing? Could I be ruining his life? Those are only a few of the questions that continue to haunt survivors at all hours of the day, distracting them from processing the trauma itself. When Dana helps a young woman through a sexual assault forensic exam, I felt my own body tense up in a way it hadn’t for months.

The line, “He’s my friend. He knows all my friends,” hit a bit too close to home. It’s wild how something so horrific and unjust can happen to you, yet your mind chooses to focus on how it will affect your social circle. Will people think I’m lying? Will they hate me? Did I ruin the friend group by telling the truth?

These fears are clearly present in Ilana during “1:00 P.M.”, with her even showing concern for the perpetrator himself, pointing out that he was drunk. While everyone’s experience may differ, including whether it’s best to find a local rape center instead of an ER, feelings of self-blame often remain the same.

I couldn’t be more thankful that a nurse like Dana was there to walk the young woman through a process that no one should have to endure. It feels unbearably long, despite the episode spanning less than an hour, with Ilana choosing to leave moments before the credits roll. But a warm presence nudging you forward truly does make all the difference in the world, and that’s exactly what Dana Evans is.

There’s so much inner turmoil that already needs to be processed, and documenting what happened will introduce a new level of external conflict. I hope Ilana chooses to return and finish the examination, but I understand, more than I understand most things, why she got off that table.

While season 2, episode 7 of The Pitt was decent overall, Ilana’s plotline left me deep in thought and unable to fully absorb much else. Installments like “1:00 P.M.” stand out for the powerful emotions felt for a character viewers have only just met, and it’s something not many medical dramas can pull off. The series can be difficult to watch at times, but its relatability is precisely what makes it so important.

New episodes of The Pitt season 2 drop Thursdays on HBO Max.
