Venom: The Last Dance follows suit with the previous two films, embracing the ridiculous and silly, while also throwing in quite a bit of heart this time around, too.
The Venom films have always known exactly what they are – silly comic book movies that embrace the ridiculous side of things. They are funny and packed with action, and include a tiny bit of heart as well. Venom: The Last Dance dials all these up to eleven, making it the best of the trilogy.
This is the last of the Venom movies, at least with Tom Hardy playing the role of Eddie Brock. The Last Dance is the perfect send-off to him, spending a lot of time on his relationship with Venom and how the two have grown over the year that they spent being connected.
I think that is why this movie has a little bit more heart than viewers are used to when it comes to these movies. This one knows it is the final one, and it does everything it can to be the best of the bunch.
Eddie Brock and Venom have formed a bond throughout the previous films. They have been through a lot and it has truly become a friendship – one that I am jealous of at times, honestly. They might bicker like siblings but they also love each other like siblings, which is why I love them so much.
Venom: The Last Dance shines a light on this relationship, and will have audiences wanting to call their friends and family members by the time to credits roll to let them know how much they mean to them. There is important theming about just how short life is, and about enjoying the time we have throughout.
All of this said, Venom: The Last Dance is not a perfect film. The storytelling is clunky, and while many of the jokes land, some of them do not. There are moments where the CG is not well done, however it often comes during an incredible action sequence so it can be forgiven.
Those who enjoyed the first two Venom movies are sure to have a good time with this one as well, as it is very similar in terms of what it brings to the table.
The main villain, Knull, is a fan favorite of Marvel comic book readers, but he is not featured as much as some people might want. Personally, I think that his small role in this movie is the perfect way to set up for the future – much like was done with Thanos early in the MCU – and I cannot wait to see how it all plays out once he proves why he is such a threat.
Fans will be thrilled to hear that there are many symbiotes in the movie, and yes, we get to see them in action – creating some of the most epic action sequences this trilogy has ever seen. Juno Temple is a wonderful addition to the cast, playing a scientist who has a backstory that will tug at your heartstrings and one of the best moments during the big battle.
Tom Hardy has done an incredible job as Eddie Brock, and I will absolutely miss him in the role. Knowing that the end is actually the end for the majority of these characters makes it quite emotional.
If you are expecting a film that does not take itself too seriously, while delivering on a truly fun time at the movies, Venom: The Last Dance is for you.
