Oddity is an unsettling and suspenseful story that, as it slowly unfolds, gets darker and darker. Predictable at times, but still a must watch horror.

    Oddity movie review

You know a horror movie is good when it sticks with you for a few days, and that is exactly what Oddity does. Right from the start, viewers will be on edge, waiting to discover what is about to happen. The longer it goes on, the more dark and sinister things are revealed. Even though they are predictable at times, the eerie journey will live on in the heads of the audience for days to come.

    Oddity movie review

After the brutal murder of Dani (Carolyn Bracken), her blind twin sister, Darcy (Carolyn Bracken) takes it upon herself to get revenge. Darcy claims that she gets visions from items, and ultimately gets her hands on something belonging to the accussed killer. What follows is a twisted tale of treachery, suspense, and revenge.

    Oddity movie review

Thanks to incredible performances, and eerie score, and a suspenseful story line, Oddity is an unsettling film – but in a good way. In a way that horror fans will truly appreciate. The wooden man is terrifying and will surely haunt the dreams of many viewers.

    Oddity movie review

While the mystery itself becomes predictable far before the official reveal, Oddity is still entertaining. Thanks to the slower pacing, the darkness that is spread througout the majority of the film, and the cinematopraphy choices, hearts will still be pounding as we wait to see exactly how things play out.

There are not a lot of jump scares, but because of how dark the film is, when they do come about, they hit hard. The ending is one of the best parts of Oddity, tying everything together in a brilliant way.

    Overall Thoughts

Overall, Oddity is an unsettling, intense, and eerie film. While there are several different concepts that do not always come together perfectly, it is clear to see what the intentions behind them were. The mystery is a bit predictable at times, but there are still some surprising reveals in store for viewers.

The wooden man is easily one of the most terrifying elements of a horror film this year and will not soon be forgotten. All of the acting is fantastic, but it is Carolyn Bracken that truly shines. Having to play two different characters is not easy, but being able to do so in a way that allows them to actually feel like sisters, and not the same person, should be applauded.

Oddity is going to be a hit with horror fans, so do not miss it when it comes to theaters on July 19th. Oddity will be arriving on Shudder at a later date.
