You Season 4 Part 1 is filled with twists and turns as the table flips on Joe, and this time he is the one being stalked.

You is back with season 4 and this time Joe finds himself in a new country, with a new name, and a whole lot of new problems. He thinks he can change and become a better person, but that simply is not who he is. Even though he has always believed that he acts only when he is backed into a corner, murder just isn’t a forgivable offence. Netflix’s You season 4 part one has released, giving fans a look at the first five episode of the season, with the final five coming next month.
Not How We Normally See Joe
Thanks to the trailer, we knew going into it that this season would be filled with twists and turns, and Joe’s life flipped upside down as he is getting a taste of his own medicine. To see this side of Joe is interesting and intriguing, but admittedly, it does take some getting used to.

Seeing Joe be the one manipulated and stalked this time around is new for everyone. Penn Badgley incorporated this part of his character well. We don’t normally see Joe shaking in his boots, even though Love did go toe to toe with him on more than one occasion, so it is a fun start to season 4. However, it doesn’t take too long for him to start to revert to his old self — crossing the line when he feels it is his only choice.
Did We Need You Season 4?
Did we need You season 4? Well, we don’t really need anything, do we? The way that You season 3 ended had some viewers excited for a new season, and some thinking it might be the time to close out the series while on top. Myself? I was in the latter group. It felt like the perfect ending to Joe, for him to just disappear into society.
That being said, I will eat my words, as You season 4 has started off really strong, and is able to deliver something unique in an effort to not feel played out. It works. It really works. Of course there are still five episodes left and it could all go to hell in a handbasket…but so far so good.

Joe’s New Life
You season 4 reveals that Joe has found a new life, under a new name, in London. He is trying his hardest to be good, and prove that he is not a murderer. He has a job as a professor and quickly finds himself, reluctantly, a part of a social group with several spoiled rich kids. It is clear he really doesn’t want to be in their lives, but something happens that ties him to them and he just cannot find a way out of it.

This group of actors all brings something fun to the table. They play the elite that just want to have fun very well, and it is interesting to see the different relationships that they form with Joe, although they know him as Jonathan Moore. He struggles to fit in, but is constantly trying to keep up appearances because he feels the need to protect them.
There is an “Eat The Rich” killer on the loose, and he instantly sees himself as the protector of the group. Although, to be honest, it also feels as if he is intrigued by the killer and wants to know more about them by sticking around.

You Season 4 Is Sometimes Predictable
For those who pay close enough attention, the twist that comes about in episode five is not much of a twist at all. This is unfortunate because it does end up taking a little bit away from the first half of You season 4. The big twist isn’t the only thing that can be easily figured out either, which almost makes you feel like Joe, You, and Netflix, have lost their touch.
That being said, there are still five episodes to go, and with the way the final episode of Part 1 ended, things are looking up for viewers. There are sure to be a whole lot more twists and turns with Joe’s new obsession, and we cannot wait to see how it all plays out.
Overall Thoughts
You season 4 starts out extremely strong with part 1 delivering five great episodes. They are suspenseful, intriguing, and entertaining, even when they end up predictable. Making Joe live on the other side of the fence this time around gives You a fresh and unique feel.
Just when you think they can’t possibly come up with something new and unique, they drop a major twist, making this one of the best seasons yet.
