Somebody I Used To Know is a charming and powerful movie that will leave viewers wanting to embrace what they love about themselves.
As we get older, the majority of people look back on their lives and wonder if they made the right decision. There are times where we end up questioning our paths.
Somebody I Used To Know follows a young woman, Ally (Alison Brie) who does just that when she goes to visit the town she grew up in after moving away. She crosses paths were her ex-boyfriend, who is about to get married, and wonders if leaving to pursue her career instead of her relationship was the correct call.
What follows is a beautiful and utterly charming film about life, friendship, and family. It is also about learning to love yourself, and finding that spark again. It is a powerful film that will leave many viewers inspired and eager to hit the ground running when it comes to their goals and ambitions.
Somebody I Used To Know will also cause many to look at the life partners they have chosen and compromise, if they haven’t already, so that both parties can feel happy and fulfilled.
The cast is incredible, and does a wonderful job with the script. It truly feels like a group of old friends getting together to reminisce and confess their deep, dark, secrets to one another.
Community fans will be thrilled to see Alison Brie and Danny Pudi on screen together again. Considering they play friends who have not seen each other in a long time, it is a great lead in to the Community movie that we know is coming down the road.
Dave Franco is extremely talented in front of the screen, we all know this. But his directing choices in Somebody I Used To Know elevate it to a whole new level. And, if you listen closely, there is a scene where you can hear him make a quick voice cameo.
Franco and Brie, who are husband and wife, wrote this film together and it feels as if it has come from a place of passion. They have both been in the entertainment business for a long time, and they know their way around script. What they have come up with is something truly special.
Not only is it witty and charming, funny and silly, it will have viewers thinking back to their younger days and contemplating their life choices — in a good way. It is easy to connect with Ally, even when she isn’t making the best decisions, and while most of her journey is a predictable one, the ending will have audiences beaming as it nice to see her happy. Really, really happy.
Overall Thoughts
Somebody I Used To Know reminds viewers that they can still go back to being who they used to know and find that spark inside of them that ignites their dreams and passions. This movie is about finding yourself (perhaps again) and learning to be be comfortable in your own skin. It is inspiring, emotional, beautiful, and utterly charming. The perfect mix of humor and heart, this is a must see.
Oh, and there is a really fun end credit scene that you can’t miss!

About Somebody I Used To Know
Workaholic TV producer Ally (Alison Brie) faces a major professional setback which sends her running to the comforts of her hometown. She spends a whirlwind evening reminiscing with her first love Sean (Jay Ellis) and starts to question everything about the person she’s become.
Things only get more confusing when she discovers Sean is getting married to Cassidy (Kiersey Clemons) whose confidence and creative convictions remind Ally of who she used to be.
