The Legend Of Vox Machina Season 2 Week 1 Recap & Review

The Legend Of Vox Machina season 2 has kicked off with the first three episodes in week 1. Here’s our SPOILER recap and review.

The Legend Of Vox Machina Season 2 review

The Legend Of Vox Machina is back on Prime Video with three episodes of season 2 and what a start to the season. It picks up exactly where it left off at the end of season 1 and wastes no time jumping into the high octane, intense moments that fans are so used to. Of course, we also have a whole lot of snark and even some raunchy comments (thanks Scanlan).

Warning: Spoilers for The Legend of Vox Machina season 2 week 1

The Legend Of Vox Machina season 2
Episode 1: Rise of the Chroma Conclave

The first three episodes of The Legend Of Vox Machina season 2 are packed with action. We get an up close look at the dragons that make up the Chroma Conclave, and watch our heroes plan for their demise. The first episode picks off exactly where we left off, with the dragons heading to town ready to demolish it, and they do just that — killing many in their wake.

Gilmore allows Vex, Vax, Scanlan, Grog, Pike, and Keyleth to take whatever they need from the rubble of his shop, which honestly is not much. Poor Scanlan ends up with a broom, that turns out to be worth a whole lot more than he expected it to be worth. Even though they wish to confront the dragons head on, they know there is no way they can win. Not yet anyways. So they opt to escape Emon and come back when they have a plan.

The first episode is action packed with a whole lot of fighting and some close calls for Vox Machina and their friends. Getting to learn more about the Chroma Conclave dragons and their powers will have fans on the edge of their seats, waiting to see how the season (and confirmed The Legend Of Vox Machina season 3) play out. While it feels like a high stakes episode, it is obvious that they would not kill anyone off in the first one, so any danger towards this ragtag group of mercenaries is not really felt. Still, it is quite enjoyable.

Episode 2: The Trials of Vasselheim

Vox Machina seeks for help in Vasselheim but are repeatedly turned away. The city feels that the dragons are no threat to them, at least not yet, so they will not interfere. This forces them to turn to a group of bounty hunters that call themselves Slayer’s Take. Vex and Vax have a past with them and, well, it isn’t good. They stole a bounty from them and even have a wanted poster hanging up in the hideout.

They are nearly killed but Slayer’s Take is soon stopped by Osysa, who seems to be their master of sorts. They are sent to talk with her and discover that she is a beautiful Sphynx. She tests them before ultimately deciding that they might be able to take on the Chroma Conclave. She tells them of a Vestige that they must find, and explains that it will lead them to others. These vestiges will help even the playing field against the dragons. She tells them to take it to her mate once they have it, and he will tell them what to do next.

Of course, Slayer’s Take is not thrilled that Osysa opted to trust Vox Machina over them, and words as exchanged as they leave the guild.

Meanwhile Grog separates from Vox Machina as he is called by an old man, and quickly asked where his strength comes from. This is something he cannot honestly answer and will surely be a big part of the season to follow. It is revealed that he is using the sword he stole from Sylas Briarwood. We already know this is a blood sword and there are early hints of it starting to control him, as it lusts for blood. Yeah, this can’t be good.

He meets up with the rest of the gang after they leave Slayer’s Take, and they decide to get drinks and food before heading out on their mission. Percy stops by a black powder shop and learns that someone was recently there to buy powder as well. This is intriguing but is not brought up for the rest of the season, which is a tad frustrating.

Episode 3: The Sunken Tomb

Vox Machina spends season 2 episode 3 tracking down the Vestige of Divergence. They discover that it is in a tomb under a lake. Lucky for them Zahra (Mary Elizabeth McGlynn) and Kashaw (Will Friedle) show up to help. Surely part of the reason they arrive is because they are unhappy that Osysa sent Vox Machina instead of them, but they seem willing enough to help. It quickly becomes clear though, that they would not mind taking the vestige for themselves.

Kashaw almost immediately starts flirting with Keyleth, something that makes Vex a bit uneasy, as we all know how he feels about her. Still, he keeps his distance a little so far this season and she has every right to entertain other offers.

Inside the tomb, it doesn’t take long for Zahra to put her own needs ahead of Vox Machina’s. Her and Kashaw go on ahead while the others are distracted, and this leads to Vex’s demise. While looking for the resting place of the vestige, Vex and Percy stumble upon a casket. When Percy touches it, a magic is released that kills Vex.

Viewers are left with the massive cliffhanger of her possible death for a week, until the next three episodes are released on January 27th.
