Transformers: War For Cybertron: Kingdom brings the Maximals and Predacons into the picture for one epic showdown!
The third chapter of Transformers: War For Cybertron is a decent ending to trilogy – doing a great job of wrapping the story up but still leaving it open for more. However, is it the best of the three? The short answer is no. Earthrise had a lot more dark and gritty parts of the war, and even though this one brings in fan favorites the Maximals and the Predacons, something is off about the animation so much so that moments of it are distracting.
That being said, all six episodes provide a great continuation of the story. Because the Maximals and Predacons are joining the ranks of the Autobots and Decepticons in this chapter, there are a lot more characters. However, the writing doesn’t push any to the side and each and every one of them gets their fair due — which is difficult to do considering the full chapter is just three hours long.
Of course this series is continuing a war – the War For Cybertron – so there is still a lot of dark, gritty, and emotional moments. The grit doesn’t go quite as deep as it did with Earthrise, but it does its job. Thanks to the addition of Transformers who turn into animals and dinosaurs, there are some insane battles. The action during fight scenes is off the charts, and quite unique compared to the last two because of the new characters. Dinosaurs fighting trucks is never a bad thing. Trust me on that one.
That being said, the animation of these animals and dinosaurs does feel a bit jarring, especially when they are in scenes as their transformed selves along with the other Transformers. They are too clean and crisp, and can even be distracting at times. Overall though, the animation style remains the same as the previous chapters.
The final episode brings a big twist that was a tad predictable, but still enjoyable to see played out on the big screen. The War For Cybertron trilogy wraps up nicely with Kingdom, while still leaving the door open for more (fingers crossed). Not the best of the trilogy, but it ties it all together well enough, gives viewers some fan favorite characters with the Beast Wars tie in, incredible action, and some sprinkled in emotional moments. Transformers fans couldn’t ask for much more than that.
