Disney’s Launchpad is a collection of live action shorts, and a showcase of some incredible directors and their talents.

Disney’s Launchpad is a collection of live action shorts, each inspired by the theme discover. There are six in total and each of them brings something unique to the word. In this interview with the directors, they each discuss their inspirations for their shorts, and what they mean to them.

Each of the shorts are around thirty minutes long, and they are all done extremely well. There is not one in the bunch that is not worth watching. Since they are all stand alone shorts they can be watched back to back, or completely separately as time allows.

It is near impossible to pick a favorite as they all evoke emotions and the theme of discover in their own way. Such a great part about Launchpad is that it allows a place for these directors to showcase their incredible talents, and get their work out there.

Knowing that season two for the show is coming, is very exciting. This is not only a great place for aspiring directors to get their start, it is a great way for the world to discover their talents — no pun intended.

    About Disney’s Launchpad

Disney’s “LAUNCHPAD” is a collection of live-action shorts from a new generation of dynamic storytellers. Six filmmakers from underrepresented backgrounds were selected and provided with the opportunity to share their perspectives and creative visions that will show audiences what it means to be seen. The goal of Disney’s “LAUNCHPAD” is to diversify the types of stories that are being told and to give access to those who have historically not had it.

Inspired by life’s journey, these first six shorts for Disney+ are based on the theme, “Discover.”

    • AMERICAN EID: Ameena, a Muslim Pakistani immigrant, wakes up on Eid to find out that she has to go to school. Homesick and heartbroken, she goes on a mission to make Eid a public-school holiday, and in the process, reconnects with her older sister, and embraces her new home, while her new home embraces her.
    • DINNER IS SERVED: A Chinese student at an elite U.S. boarding school realizes excellence is not enough when he tries out for a leadership position no international student has ever applied for.
    • GROWING FANGS: Val Garcia, a Mexican-American teen who is half human/half vampire, has had to keep her identity a secret from both worlds. But 3 when her human best friend shows up at her monster infested school, she has to confront her truth, her identity, and herself.
    • THE LAST OF THE CHUPACABRAS: In a world where culture has nearly ceased to exist, one lone Mexican-American struggling to carry on her traditions unknowingly summons a dark and ancient creature to protect her.
    • LET’S BE TIGERS: Avalon’s not ready to process the loss of her mother, but when she’s put in charge of a 4-year-old for one night, she finds more comfort than she ever could have expected.
    • THE LITTLE PRINCE(SS): When Gabriel, a 7-year-old Chinese kid who loves ballet, becomes friends with Rob, another Chinese kid from school, Rob’s dad gets suspicious about Gabriel’s feminine behavior and decides to intervene.

Disney’s Launchpad is streaming now on Disney+.
