Behind Her Eyes Review: An Off The Wall Psychological Thriller

Behind Her Eyes is a psychological thriller that will have you speculating about what is truly going on, almost from the start.

If you like a good psychological thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat and coming up with all sorts of insane theories, than Netflix’s Behind Her Eyes is for you. This limited series is just six quick and bingable episodes that will have your brain spinning. It is based on the best selling book, and stays pretty true to it. However, if you are not familiar with the novel, I suggest waiting until after you watch this series to pick it up so you can experience it with blind eyes.

Behind Her Eyes is the story about a single mother, Louise (Simona Brown), who has a chance meeting with a man, David (Tom Bateman), at a bar. They quickly hit it off but when they kiss, he stops it and leaves. The next day Louise discovers that this man is not only her new boss, but that he is married as well.

When she ends up unexpectedly befriending his wife Adele (Eve Hewson), things get more bizarre as she learns their relationship clearly has some issues. Through flashbacks, the full story comes to light, and this is a crazy puzzle that almost no one could put together!

Behind Her Eyes

My favorite thing about Behind Her Eyes is that it wastes almost no time before making you second guess everything. It is so well done and so perfectly obvious that not everything is what it seems. Of course, that is how most psychological thrillers are but even if you go into this series knowing nothing about it at all, you will get the immediate feeling that something is wrong.

This is largely in part to the score, which helps bring suspense into every scene that needs it. There were several moments that gave me chills, based on the music alone. The cinematography also helps to give you the feeling that not everything is rainbows and unicorns.

Of course, the icing on the cake is the script and the acting. The three leads were perfectly cast. There is no other way to phrase it. The chemistry, the hate, and the love between this bizarre triangle is easily observed while watching the show. It makes this a truly believable series of events.

Overall Thoughts

Behind Her Eyes is a six episode limited series that will have you hooked from the start. If I had to pick a negative about it, I would say it gets a little slow at parts, but it more than makes up for it. This show is crazy, bizarre, and one of those that will stick with you for a while. It is vague at times, which is all by design because when it gets to that ending — it all pays off.
