My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising is coming home and to celebrate I chatted with Justin Briner, voice of Deku, and Clifford Chapin, voice of Bakugo!

As a massive fan of anime — and a more recent fan of My Hero Academia — I was absolutely thrilled to chat with some of the incredible voices from this show — Justin Briner (voice of Deku) and Clifford Chapin (voice of Bakugo)! We discussed the new movie, My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising, which is coming to Blu-ray, DVD, & Digital on October 27th.

Now admittedly, I was told to watch this show for years, but didn’t. My husband, my friends, my family — they all told me I was missing out, big time. Then I watched My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising during its theatrical release back in February and realized the mistake I had made. I was hooked. I went back and binged ALL the episodes over the following months and WOW! What a show. I hate that it took me so long to check it out. Everyone was right.

Interview With Justin Briner & Clifford Chapin

Be sure to watch the whole interview with Justin Briner and Clifford Chapin above so you don’t miss anything, but I want to tell you about some of my favorite moments. These guys are such a joy to talk to! I really didn’t want to admit to them I only started watching their show recently but I did, and they were super nice about it. I thought for sure I was going to be shunned after that.

I asked them if they read ahead in the manga and they both had different answers. Justin does, a little bit. He tries to stay a bit ahead so that he can prepare for what he is coming. However, Clifford does not. Instead he wants to go in completely blind, not knowing what will be happening to his character until he reads it in the script.

What Quirks Would They Have?

One of my favorite things about the show is the different Quirks that the characters have — superpowers if you will. So you know I had to ask them what Quirks they would like to have. They both said they were lame ones, but I think they are great choices.

Justin would like a Quirk where he could eat something and immediately know the recipe. I am a foodie so this would be amazing for me too. Not lame Justin! For Clifford, he would like to be able to correct grammar. But in the coolest way ever. With a prick of his finger — and by wiping the blood over the words. His name would have to by Type-O of course. Which is totally amazing.

About My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising

The number one hero anime is back for a battle beyond anything fans have ever seen! Class 1-A visits Nabu Island where they finally get to do some real hero work. The place is so peaceful that it’s more like a vacation … until they’re attacked by a villain with an unfathomable Quirk! His power is eerily familiar, and it looks like Shigaraki had a hand in the plan. But with All Might retired and citizens’ lives on the line, there’s no time for questions. Deku and his friends are the next generation of heroes, and they’re the island’s only hope.
