DC’s Stargirl Episode Two Review: Great Action & Story Building

In episode two of DC’s Stargirl we finally get to see the costume! Plus, some serious character development that sets up what is sure to be a great season!

dc's stargirl episode two review

The premiere episode of DC’s Stargirl immediately sucked me in, but I would like if I didn’t admit I was a little worried that the show would hold my attention. Well, this episode squashed those fears with its character development and plot lines. We learn more about the heroes — and villains — of this story and things get good. Really good.

Courtney has only known about the Cosmic Staff, the Justice Society of America, and the Injustice Society of America (yes she makes fun of those names and it is amazing) for a short time, but she is quickly coming into her own as a hero. I guess her gymnastics background, and the power of the Cosmic Staff, are really coming in handy!

Probably my favorite part about this episode, besides all the kick butt action, is the sequence of Courtney making her suit. She takes Starman’s old suit, and gives it a female upgrade, and I love it! The music playing as she does it was perfect, and I loved the close-ups of her putting it together. Plus, the fact that we were made to wait a bit longer for the big reveal, was perfect. What a great way to build the suspense DC!

Courtney and Pat

We see the bond growing between Courtney and Pat, which I really love. They not only fight alongside each other in battle, but they are bonding in their personal lives too. I am really looking forward to seeing how their relationship develops over the rest of the season — and into future seasons.

The way they cover for each other in front of their family makes me laugh and smile at the same time. It is super awkward right now, but I expect it will get easier for them the more they join forces. And I am here for it! So far, the family doesn’t suspect anything. But I have to assume that part of the drama to come later will be that they are clearly up to something.

More Villains

Besides the big fight at the beginning, the main villain of episode one was Brainwave. Same goes for episode two, for the most part. But as we are promised more DC villains, I get more and more excited. As most of you know, I am a villains girl. I have always loved them, and always will. While we almost certainly will never see my favorite villain unless Courtney and the family move to Gotham (Joker), we are getting teased with appearances from some of the best!

Toward the end of DC’s Stargirl episode two, we get a glimpse of one of my favorite DC villains of all time — and I am hyped! His appearance in episode one was very brief, and I feared it might be a while until he was back in the show. Nope, it isn’t Icicle — and I refuse to give this spoiler away! You will just have to tune in yourself to find out!

About DC’s Stargirl

DC’s STARGIRL follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series.

The project focuses on the character that started executive producer Geoff Johns’ career as a comic book writer when he created her in 1999, lovingly inspired by his late sister, who was killed in a 1996 plane explosion.

Watch Stargirl on DC Universe on Mondays and on the CW on Tuesdays!
