When The Russo Brothers told the interwebs that the official Avengers: Endgame Spoiler Ban was going to end today, I should have known that meant a new Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer. Especially when it was put out there that the next trailer would contain Endgame spoilers. I also should have known this meant I was going to cry watching the trailer and discussing it after – but ya know, I thought my wounds were healed. Spoiler alert: they weren’t. Because I have a thing with needing to dissect Marvel trailers, here is my Spider-Man: Far From Home Official trailer breakdown – feel free to let me know of things you found in the comments that I missed!
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Avengers: Endgame.
Let me start off by saying how much I loved seeing Tom Holland warn us about spoilers being in this trailer. Tom. Holland. You know, the guy who spoilers EVERYTHING. Like when he walked out in front of an audience who was about to watch Avengers: Infinity War and said “hey, I am still alive!“. Yea, that guy. Cracks me up. But I loved it.
Missing Tony Stark
I knew it. I knew this is what the Endgame spoilers would be. We have to watch Peter mourn Tony, as if watching Tony mourn Peter wasn’t hard enough. Everywhere Peter turns, he sees Iron Man. He is the center of murals so it really seems like the whole world is mourning him. Even the cops are asking Spider-Man if he is going to be the new Iron Man (because that Iron Spider suit is AMAZING!).
Seeing Peter and Happy talk about how much they miss Tony – complete with Peter’s red eyes. Yea, that really got to me. This is going to be a gross metaphor, but Marvel likes to pick at our fresh scabs until they start bleeding again. Too soon, Marvel. Too soon.
Peter is Totally the New Tony
You know what? Peter is totally the new Tony. Ignoring Nick Fury’s calls?! Ha! That had me cracking up. And Happy saying that if Peter ignores him, then he is going to have to talk to him.
Ghosting Nick Fury… Does that not remind you of something Tony Stark would do? You know he would.
So when we first meet Mysterio, AKA Quentin Beck, in this trailer – Nick introduces him to Peter. First of all, let me just say how amazing Jake Gyllenhaal looks because Mysterio is one of those characters that has all sorts of potential to look ridiculous on screen.
Anyways, Nick goes on to explain that Beck is from Earth – just not their Earth. Yup, they are talking about the Multiverse. Now, I really TRULY hope this is accurate. I hope they are opening up the multi-verse because that could mean an easy way in for the X-Men and Fantastic Four.
However, this is Mysterio we are talking about. Someone who is NEVER to be trusted. That is one of the reasons I love this villain so much – you never know what is real and what is an illusion.
Nick says the snap tore a hole in our dimension though, so it is very possible this is the truth. And I am HERE FOR IT. However, I still don’t think that the Elementals are real. Those are totally a Mysterio ploy. Calling it now.
New Stealth Suit!
Thor: Off world. Captain Marvel: Unavailable. But we have a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man (who Nick Fury so elegantly says has been to space) – with a new stealth suit! At first I thought this could be Spider Noir, or another multi-verse Spider-Man, but then we see him in a bar (drinking orange juice) wearing the suit while talking to Mysterio. With his mask off. So it is totally the Peter we know and love (probably?!).
MJ Knows Peter is Spider-Man!?!
This part came as a total shock to me. Did MJ really figure out that Peter Parker is Spider-Man? Is the trailer just messing with us? Is she about to finish her sentence like this “I mean, it’s kind of obvious…. that you AREN’T?!?” Who knows. In the comic books, MJ does know Peter’s secret identity. It is one of the reasons they work so well together – most of the time.
Or is this all part of Mysterio’s illusion? WHO KNOWS!? That is the best part about Mysterio being the villain here – we have no clue what is real and what isn’t. I guess we will have to wait until July to find out!
Spider-Man: Far From Home comes to theaters July 2nd!
Peter Parker’s relaxing European vacation takes an unexpected turn when Nick Fury suddenly shows up in his hotel room. Parker soon finds himself donning the Spider-Man suit to help Fury stop the evil Mysterio from wreaking havoc across the continent.
