Admittedly, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. took me a while to get in to. But once I got past the fact that Coulson was dead, and now back, I loved it. What held me up? I was so afraid it would be super lame how they explained that away – don’t worry, it was actually amazing. If you haven’t watched this show yet, binge Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. now, and then slide right in to Season 6, which is airing now on ABC.
I have to admit, this premiere did not have me as excited as I was hoping to be. For several reasons. And I was not alone. We discussed it on The Geekly Show – and Tania and Amiyrah felt the same way I did. Here are the reasons I was not thrilled with the first episode of Season 6.

It's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. day! When we bumped in to @realhenrysimmons at the Avengers: Endgame premiere we told him how excited we were for May 10th….and now that day is here! EEK!!! Who else will be tuning in to @agentsofshield tonight?? . . . #AvengersEndgame #Avengers #EndgamePremiereLA #Endgame #AoS #agentsofshield #HenrySimmons #Marvel #MamasGeeky
I Was Completely Lost
I am not going to lie, it took me a while to get my bearings in this episode – and I know I need to watch it again to fully comprehend it all. We jumped a year in the future, there are new team members, relationships have deteriorated, and there is a hologram Coulson.
I was completely confused as to what was even going on the first twenty minutes or so, and the only way to figure it out is going to be to watch it again. The team (made up of Daisy, Simmons, and random people we don’t know) is out in space looking for Fitz’s cryo-pod.
Fitz and Simmons
Can these two not catch a break? They are by far my favorite part of this series and I have loved following along with their love story. But this is just getting ridiculous. Simmons makes it to Fitz’s pod, after learning his ship was cut in two, only to find it empty.
Then she goes all creepy like and climbs inside of it. I mean, I get it, you miss him, but come on, that’s a little weird. After the credits, we see Fitz – sort of. Now he has green eyes and is speaking alien. Seriously? Can’t we just let them be together and happy for once? I don’t see why Fitz always has to be the bad guy (which we have to assume is to come later this season).
Mack and Yo-Yo
Clearly Mack and Yo-Yo have split in the last year. Which is painfully obvious by the way they interact with each other. And in case viewers didn’t figure it out, we get a scene with May and Yo-Yo sparring where they discuss it. It seems that Yo-Yo has moved on already, although she is hiding it from Mack.
Which seems like a good idea considering the man she is dating is one of the new S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and Mack being the Director, might not take kindly to it. I was not a fan of this new story line because first of all, I loved them together, and second of all, it doesn’t seem right for her to do this right under Mack’s nose. This can’t end well.
Coulson is Evil now?
OK, you know I love me a villain. And I love me some Coulson. So I can get behind evil Coulson – but it has to be done right. The way they introduced him just made me …. intrigued. But I still need more. We see him shoot a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, which is something the Coulson we know and love would never do.
So I need to know more details. This cannot really be Coulson, of course. So why does someone out there, that has never heard of S.H.I.E.L.D, look exactly like Coulson (with a new haircut?). Only time will tell I guess, but I hope we get some answers soon before I get bored of this show.
